Hehe, same situation with me Francois. Wife makes a buttload of cash, I get to go to school and take care of my daughter while having my days free. We totally respect each other and would prefer to piss on what the GB or society in general thinks.

it just CHAPS MY ASS!
by writerpen ini dedided to post this topic based upon the thread started by jt concerning the latest qfr in a recent watchtower concerning the submission of women.. i've made this point before in a post that in the beginning, according to the bible, god gave both men and women a curse - men to work the fields in sweat making a living, which today entails more than working fields.
and women to experience an increase in birth pains along with their husbands dominating them.
well these days, women have to meet men half way on their curse, because it seems that most families cannot make a living without the woman working.

The Bible Does Not Condemn Witchcraft
by Sirona inthe jws are against anything remotely pagan and they're certainly against witchcraft.
they say the bible condemns it.
scriptures such as exodus 22:v18 "you must not preserve a sorceress alive" (nwt) or as the king james version says "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live".

Perhaps if there weren't so many discrepencies in the Bible it would make arguments like this easier. Most christianity is absolutist in that if you don't agree with them then you're wrong. I'm sure this position gives someone a nice feeling of self importance but doesn't really prove anything. I'm impressed with your research Sirona but I fear that it may fall on deaf ears. We have Paul to thank for the sad state of christianity today.

quote-
One of atheists' gravest mistakes when speaking about God, the true God, is that they bundle God along with His limited creation, as though He is subject to its environment, its Laws and its entanglements.
The biggest mistake that Christians make is assuming that they know the "true God". They believe that their religion and Bible are pure in the sense that all that is contained within it are unique. It is very well proven that much of the Bible and Christianity is nothing more than stories borrowed from other religions and a Dogma centered around a small offshoot of Judahism.
I'm not an atheist but I respect their views and often I find that it is refreshing to have a viewpoint not scewed by blind faith. Any belief system that claims to know the true God is a lie. It can so often be easilly proven to be nothing more than opinion. -

Q for Everybody, So let me get this str
by Legendary U.2.K. innobody here wants to lived in the new earth aka the coming earthly paradise?
nothing in the bible is symbolic, because saying things that are symbolic in the bible, is like calling jehovah a liar, god would not write something like in the bible, then out of no where, it really means something else... example: 144,000, some people said's that's symbolic, lol yea right.... .
anyway it seems like no one here wants to lived in the new earth, my question is why?

Hmmm, I don't believe the Bible to be the Word of God so I guess I'd have to go with "NO" on that one. Ya know I bet the Taliban originally thought that an all Islam run state would be Muslim paradise.

My Theory about wild X-JWs
by zenpunk ini was pondering this theory this morning - what do you all think?.
a few months ago i went to visit someone from my last congregation who is now also an x-jw.
what is interesting is that, though completely straight-laced within the congregation, he became absolutely out of control once he left and is now trying to figure out how to get his life together.

The funny thing is that most "worldly" kids weren't as wild as I got after I got DF'd. With all of the images the WTS tries to convey about how other people act I thought that was what I should do. Not only that, because we were so enclosed we didn't have the social skills needed to deal with all that was available for the first time. I also believe that JW's are stuck in a kind of suspended maturity that is falsely forced upon us. Once we leave, that false maturity is gone and we're left to chance.

Calling all scientists
by gsx1138 inso i'm in my communications class and i'm listening to all the speeches.
we have 2 christian fundamentalists in the class which was why i chose wicca as my topic.
anyway, the first one gave a speech on how carbon 14 dating is a hoax because the isotope that they measure only has a full life of 50,000 years.

Actually I was asking the morality question to atheists because I don't believe that religion has much to do with morality. The examples of atheist nations are nice but Hitler considered himself to be a devout christian. And for every example you bring up of atheist atrocities I'm sure we can find 3 more done by supposed religous figures.
As for morality again, we make our own morality. Then we choose whether or not we want to have a religion impress its own version of that upon us. Sixofnine, your comment was childish and typical of many people who think they "know" which belief system is the "right" one. My Goddess knows full well that I make my own morality, so long as I harm none.
As for the C14 info, thank you. I'll do some more study into it for myself. I don't really buy into evolution in the Darwinist sense as it has about as many holes as swiss cheese. -

Pagan origins of Christanity?
by crownboy ini'm in the middle of reading jesus and the lost goddess: the secret teachings of the original christians and after this i would like to read the jesus mysteries.. i happened to come upon this book by accident, but i was surprised to see just how much christanity has possibly borrowed from pagan religions (i knew that ot stories like the flood were borrowed, but figured the nt was made by some cultic jews).
i also didn't realize that certain letters of paul may be forgeries, or that certain passages in the "genuine" letters could be allusions to pagan things.
are there any other or books or websites on the topic that anyone could recommend?

Ok, the biggest problem you'll encounter is the belief that if the Bible is not the word of God then christianity must be irrelevent. This line of thinking is usually thought by christians themselves. You are correct in that the Bible is almost a complete rip off of Pagan religions. Sirona named a few good sites and I would recommend watching, "Egypt: Land of the Gods". Anyone who wants to hold to the christianity is a "pure" religion is just dilluding themselves. I believe christianity can easilly stand on its core beliefs. Whether they are borrowed or not is irrelevent. Good luck getting a christian to agree to that.
I don't know any Bible scholar, who wants to be respected, who would try to pass the Bible off as an original work. Most christians don't even know that the NT wasn't started up until 70 years after christ was dead. A few hundred years after that the Bible that you have today was completed with the exclusion of bible books. While I'm an admitted Pagan, I don't think that christianity is without merit. -

So I'm in my communications class and I'm listening to all the speeches. We have 2 christian fundamentalists in the class which was why I chose Wicca as my topic. Anyway, the first one gave a speech on how Carbon 14 dating is a hoax because the isotope that they measure only has a full life of 50,000 years. He believes this to be true because he believes in the literal translation of the 6 days of the creation. The next one gave a speech stating that the earth is only 7,000 years old thus proving the Bible to be correct. I was sooo amazed that people actually believed this crap that I couldn't even formulate a question. Also when I was giving my speech they brought up the question of morality. With the belief that religion makes us more moral people. I would just like some comments on the carbon 14 thing and any others you'd like to add. Even though I'm an active Pagan I have always respected the athiest position and know that most are more in tune with science. Perhaps the atheists on this board have some comments concerning morality.

JW's Paradise and Determinist Philosophy
by mindfield init occured to me, during a philosophy course, that the deterministic philosophy strongly resembles the utopian paradise the jw's so strongly hope for.
first off, what is the deterministic philosophy?
you've got your utopia... your jw paradise.

I'm not much into philosophy although it has its merits. I think you will see that the JW religion started around the pioneering days of psychology. This is why you see behavioral patterning and subconscious conditioning in the WTS. I told a friend of mine that if you call something the "truth" enough times throughout your life that eventually it will become the truth. The word "truth" by its very nature carries the connotation of being correct.
One thing that most doomsday cults rely on is that the "end" must occure within the initiates lifetime otherwise they cannot convey the sense of urgency needed to have the intiate commit. Thus the "end" will occure soon, the end will happen before you die, the end will come before this generation passes. Most religions need this philosophy to keep people within their organization. The WTS is pure genius when it comes to these methods, however they have gotten sloppy recently. -

Do your parents still talk to you?
by scootergirl injust curious if your parents still have contact with you after you have been df'd/da'd.
mine have stood by w/strong convictions not to have contact w/me.
they have to have some being that i have kids that they want to see (but that is very minimal).

Part of the on and off relationship that some of your parents have is a way for them to still control you. It is very hard, I know, to tell your parents that if they want to see their grandkids then the JW rules are totally irrelevent. My mother calls she has to talk to me. She comes over she has to interact with me. It's basically "my house, my rules." I got enough of that when I lived with them now it's their turn. I have basically come to the point in my life where if my parents choose not to converse with me then I could care less. Of course that took years of training on my part.
