i always get excited when something new is discovered....i often wonder how long it will take, if ever, to discover everything on our wonderful planet.
That is impossible. It is an obvious hoax, nothing more than hand waving. We all know that science has explained everything there is to know in the universe. /sarcasm off. Sorry, just echoing some of the attitudes I've seen on these boards. These kinds of discoveries interest me as well. I bet they make cool stuffed animals

I watched as much as I could until I had to turn the channel. That was the biggest load of crap I've ever seen. To his credit, Mr. 700 club did at least say he doesn't believe all those people writting apocolypse books. Otherwise, it is very disturbing to me to watch a news channel discussing the Bible like it is fact. It will not be long before this country turns into another Nationalistic Religous Fundamentalist haven. Hows Canada these days?

Me? I'm a blatant Pagan. I do study the toa te ching but I mostly follow the Wiccan path. I do yoga sometimes (read: not enough) and use Buddhist techniques for meditation.

i raise this question after reading a recent thread, regarding what people believe now that they are no longer a witness.
To me spirituality is the personalization of a belief in a higher power. Spirituality doesn't rely on religion or churches it relies on the individual. There is no spirituality in religion per se' only that which its members bring to it. As far as atheists, I'm not one so I don't feel it is my place to speak for them.

I don't agree with skeptics/athiests but I do think that it is strange that christians use the Bible to convince others of God or Christianity. I had some Baptists come to my door (still no JW's yet). After we got throught the do I believe in God talk he asked if I believed that the Bible was the word of God. I don't think he expected me to say No. Needless to say the conversation was over because there was nothing for him to reference. You may as well quote Grimm fairy tales because the Bible means nothing to me. I see the Bible as a crutch for christianity because most follow it like blind sheep. There are a few christians who can deseminate between religion and spirituality.
On a personal note, I love reading infedels.org. I find athiest beliefs to be fascinating.

i am so grateful that we got out of the borg for so many reasons.
one of the main reasons are my kids.
today they are having a bunch of friends over to have wrestling tournaments on our trampoline.
I invited a friend of mine (15yr friend) over to my place for a BBQ. I had got him into the JW thing about 10years ago but it never really took hold. However, he convinced his now wife to check it out and now she's militant (shame on me). He asked me if I was studying again and I said not even on a cold day in Hell. He said, "Even now that you have a kid?"
Especially now that I have a kid. WTS=psychological destruction. I'm glad your son is doing so well. As far as food. 15 year old boys aren't all that picky.

One thing I know is that we think we're untouchable. Even after 9/11 we think it's all kick ass and take names. We can act as egocentric as we want but sooner or later someone is going to start beating on us. As an American I'm very dissappointed in our foreign policies as most of them are hold overs from the cold war. The worste part is we fool ourselves (and try to fool the rest of the world) into thinking that our mid east policies have something to do with justice and the American way. Our attempt to homogenize the world is why so many countries hate us. Despite all of that, there are allot shittier places to live. We may not be perfect but there are some good people who live here. Our government may suck at times but I think there are people in office who actually care. Every country has problems unique to them it just depends on how you deal with them.

first of all, if you are offended by me saying "another one bites the dust," my apologies.. i just can't think of better words for what happens when some one dies after they have sold their soul to a printing company.. my uncle tom passed away yesterday morning in buffalo ny.
he was very ill, confined to a wheelchair for the last 10-15 years of his life.
he had ms.. tom married my aunt about 18 years ago.
{{{LDH}}} I often wonder what is going to happen when my mother dies. If the funeral is at the KH they'll have to have me arrested to not show up. The WTS pisses me off sometimes with their brand of ignorance.

My whining is relative to my culture. I don't apologize for being born in the U.S. or much anything else out of my control. Too ask me to put myself in their position is impossible without being born into their position. I can empathize but that is it. Xander hit the nail right on the head. I learned this in Anthro. by the way, you can't dump a bunch of money into a country and think that it is going to do anything. Using money to fix problems is an American idea and it rarely ever works. You have to work in the confines of the given culture. Too often we really believe that people would be better off (or that they want to be) if they were just like us. This type of ethnocentrism leads to Somalia's around the world.
Money for these starving countries is way down the list in terms of things we need to help them with. People in Africa are dying of aids like its the spanish flu. We could fly over 500 billion condoms. How many of those do you think would get used? They are stuck in a vicious cycle of death due to their culture not having changed along with the rest of the industialized world. You could drop $100 bills all over the continent and it still wouldn't do any good.
