What Are Your Beliefs?
by MoeJoJoJo ini am very curious in what everyone believes as far as religious beliefs.. since leaving the org, i feel i am still in a limbo state, i'm not quite sure of what i believe yet.
i believed a lie most of my life which i'm sure most of you can relate with, so its not so easy for me to jump right into something else.. i do feel there is a superior being who created us all.
i am still trying to sort things out.. so if you care to share, are you atheist, pagan, christian, etc.?

I'm about as blatant a Pagan as one can get I guess. As far as your limbo state, I wouldn't worry too much. Sometimes the journey is just as much fun as the outcome. If you interested in finding a belief system then I say look around and research. It took me a good 10 years of going to different churches, studying religous history, and getting the atheist viewpoint to end up a Pagan. I think it is very, very important to listen to the atheist viewpoint. Too often people dismiss it and really short change themselves on a different point of view. I don't agree with atheists but they do have a way of exposing flaws and weaknesses in just about every religion that you're not going to get from a christian writing a book on christianity (of course their going to paint a rosy picture). They have a few choice things to say about Paganism as well. In the end YOU decide what is best for YOU.

Gems From The Stony Hearts
by hillary_step injust thought that you would enjoy a gem from the heart of brooklyn taken from the book isaiahs prophecy - light for all mankind, pp 335,6 #12, under the heading the senseless one.
"of course, confirmed atheists say that there is no jehovah.
in effect, so do "intellectuals" and others who act as if there were no god, believing that they are accountable to no one.

Of the atheists that I know (very few) all of them are a much better example of being "christ like" than most christians I know. I wonder what this preoccupation with the belief that religion dictates morality?

WW: Let's Get Something Straight About Jehovah
by Francois inwholewheat:.
jehovah is nothing more than the very primitive concept of who and what god is that was held by a primitive, savage, illiterate group of nomads inhabiting the middle eastern lavant five thousand years ago.. jehovah is on a par with other middle eastern gods of the time; no more no less.
and we now discover through archaeology that jehovah had a wife.

I would have to say that Jehovah's preoccupation with the male penis suggests that he may be homosexual. Perhaps he took a wife so his father Ra wouldn't cut him out of the family inheritance. I am very interested on this Jehovah having a wife thing. Perhaps a link or book title would help.

Does religion have to be boring?
by kenpodragon inwhen i left the jehovah's witnesses, i spent a couple of months attending local christian churches.
my wife and i did this because we thought the christian path was still ours.
later we learned that our path went in a far different direction.. .

Laughter seems to be a core requirement for pagans. But I know what you're saying. I did learn a very valuable tool at the KH though. I can now sleep sitting up with my eyes open The reasoning for the dry presentation is that (this is what I was told) they don't want to be compared to other churches. The message given warrants serious attention and they don't want people to come to the KH just to "feel good" they want them to come to learn. Blah, blah, blah that is the part that I zoned out on.

Do not be misled!
by Olympiad indo not be misled!
the following is the most misapplied scripture by the watchtower society and it causes more damage and mind control than any other.
mathew 24:45-47 who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?

Simple Dogma for simple minds. Me on good side, you not with me...you on bad side. I need one guy who represents all that is good, now I need another guy that represents all that is bad. Thank goodness reality has no shades of grey because I'd have to make descisions on my own. /sarcasm off
I'm a witch Bleep, Satan doesn't even exist in my belief system. In fact absolute evil doesn't exist in my belief system. There is good and bad and everything in between but all are constrolled by choice. There's no judgement to be passed on me by someone else or mythical creatures to torture my soul.

I don't know how safe it is for kids but I do like the fact that you're free to express your opinion whether it is popular or not. You can lambast the government without worry of the government. The best thing I think is that you can just live your life. No forced BS political parades. No government to tell me what I can't believe. Shoot you can even believe that you need to take down the government for all you want (of course once you try to your ass is meat).

Test: Where do you stand politically?
by JanH insometimes political orientation is described through a left-right axis only, which is obviously inadequate as it tends to associate gandhi and stalin, and make pol pot a radical and hitler a conservative.. this is a good, short test that asks you a number of questions and places you on a two-dimensional axis.. take it here: http://www.digitalronin.f2s.com/politicalcompass/.
i took the test and got the following result:.
your political compass:economic left/right: -1.12. authoritarian/libertarian: -6.21. that is, centrist with a slight leftist bent, strongly libertarian.
-
gsx1138
I'm by no way a hard right sympathizer but some of these questions are scewed to the left. You may as well ask: You are offered $200 to shoot up a school. Is the life of the children more important or is the money? Despite the questions I scored the same as I do on other political compass tests.
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -1.00
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.72Authoritarian Left Right Libertarian gsx1138

What do Americans actually really know about???
by invisible inwhat do americans in general actually really know about the big outside world outside of their own culture?.
it's certainly not just me, but for years since early childhood in fact, it has been commonly accepted by many, that americans in general are the biggest ignorant fools residing almost anywhere on the planet, yet they still do their damndest to have everyone believe what a great nation they are.
is it even beyond their comprehension how foolish they look often to the rest of the world, the fact that they have so little understanding of problems on the worldwide front?.

It must be your time of the month. Your using female talk by using broad hard generalizations. Most Americans are only concerned about themselves because that is all that is around them. We don't live in some country the size of Rhode Island surrounded by a dozen other countries. Although a friend and I have a theory. God I'm going to get flamed for this one. We theororize that the intelligence level rises the further you get from the center of the country with the acception of the SE of the U.S. He is a Florida native by the way. Most Americans don't know about other cultures because they don't have to. You cross a state line and guess what you're in another state that is still part of the same country. I do think you'll find that there are huge cultural differences from one end of the U.S. to the other. In general though, I agree with you. I would guess that 80% of the country like to be sheep and enjoy the bliss of their ignorance. By the way our BBQ ownz joo. :)
