I leave for the day to go to the Seattle Science Center, walk around the Space Needle, take my daughter to the music fountain to listen to some Sound Garden, Nirvana, and some Opera and there are three pages on this topic. I understand the "Theory" explanation and while I think both sides are playing semantics I get the point. Until the holes in evolution are filled you cannot accept it as fact you can only accept it as the most likely scenario if you accept the evidence given. Creationist theory will never be able to prove itself. The best a creationist can do is say either you have to have faith or look around. So as far as my theory goes I'm open to any possibility but lean toward some form of evolution. Of course I'm behind the neo-evolution thing so someone would have to explain that one to me. As it stands I do not believe we are from the ape family. I'm more inclined to believe we are a seperate line just not discovered yet.

Anti-Evolutionists Wanted !!!!
by Francois inthere is an evolution question bubbling up down the threads a little way, and it minded me to try to really get to the nub of the opposition to the technique.. i would like to pose very serious questions, and i hope they attracts serious, considered responses - once and for all.. why is it impossible, in the minds of anti-evolutionists, that god did indeed create us, the earth, the sun, and everything around us including the entire physical universe, and that evolution was his technique; evolution as a divine technique?
how do you know, how are you so certain that's not the case?
how would you explain your opposition to god if he told you personally that, yep, that's the way he did it alright?.

Likewise we have a theory of gravity, and the fact of gravity. I would not, if I were you, take confort in the word "theory" and walk off tall buildings.
That argument would hold water if it wasn't for the fact that I can fly. I understand what you're saying though. But I think that remaining focused on one idea keeps you from seeing others. It is my understanding that a sientist should always be trying to disprove his own ideas until the variables are too minut. There are still too many variables in Evolution to consider it the only possibility. I use this analogy: I don't really believe that the UFO's that people see are alien craft but I hold open the possibility that they may be no matter how small the chance. I just don't dwell on that. Now if people saw UFO's and each had some type of alternate religous viewpoint on what it was I wouldn't give it much thought at all. I'm sorry if this is rambling, it is waaay to early for me to be thinking.

There is a reason Evolution is called a theory. There is a reason it is not call a Law. However, I recently heard a couple of speeches on the creationist theory and the justification of the literal 6 days of creation. I was so stunned by their stupidity that I couldn't even ramble off a coherent question. The most I could get out was, "So I guess the Babylonians were right." Honestly, I'm not the guy to answer this question either but I do love the debate. The fact is Evolution has large gaps in its chain. I think the reason there are missing links is because there are no links. My theory is that life is not as hard to come by as we like to tell ourselves. I would be exstatic if we could send a probe to the Jupiter moon (too early to remember the name) with the water and volcano's. There are several facts that help it stand up though. It is a fact that evolution happens and it is happening right now. But I think that scientists are far too eager to make leaps in logic just to support their own viewpoint. Of course believing in creationism takes a huge leap in faith as well. All that being said, I believe that hundreds of lifeforms grew on their own and are not related to each other, other than chemical make up. I believe that humans as we know them today have been around just as long as every other species of humanoid. Or we were a freaky genetic experiment by aliens from the 12th planet www.sitchin.com . Sorry had to throw that in there ;)

Promoting Satanism
by gravedancer inas anyone who has read my posts knows i am an atheist - a non-believer in any god or in any devil.
i found the following interview to be quite interesting.it is from the february 23, 1986 washington post magazine.
i encourage everyone to read it and see what the founder of the satanic church had to say....in many qays he sounds like many of us here.. it is interesting that anton lavey(the founder of the church) did not believe in god or in satan.. here is the article: http://www.churchofsatan.com/pages/wapost.html.

The very fact that he calls it the church of Satan validates christianity. The guy sounds like a moron though but jj is right, laughing all the way to the bank.

What Would I Have Done?
by Frenchy inin reading the gospels about jesus ministry i cannot help but be moved by his message and manner and i know i am not alone in feeling like this.
i marvel, smile, and slowly shake my head as i read about the miracles that he performed and have, at one time or other, wished that i could have been there to witness those marvels and to hear his voice.
perhaps like many others i have also wondered at those people who heard him and yet walked away.

Sooo, basically Jesus was a left wing protester. He protested the established system, the corruption of religion and government alike. I know pretty much for a fact if Jesus came back right now in the U.S. that he may not get crucified but he'd be put in jail.

What Are Your Beliefs?
by MoeJoJoJo ini am very curious in what everyone believes as far as religious beliefs.. since leaving the org, i feel i am still in a limbo state, i'm not quite sure of what i believe yet.
i believed a lie most of my life which i'm sure most of you can relate with, so its not so easy for me to jump right into something else.. i do feel there is a superior being who created us all.
i am still trying to sort things out.. so if you care to share, are you atheist, pagan, christian, etc.?

You are somewhat right jjrizo. I first started to look at other religions than Christianity because of the hypocrisy. Now you are mostly wrong. Most Pagans, that I know, believe that most of Jesus teachings are good. You've classified every other religion by your own warped vision that is clouded by your own beliefs. The basic morality structure and beliefs are not even remotely unique to christianity as just about every religion on the planet echos those sentiments. There are many good reasons to even doubt that what is written in the NT was even said by Jesus. I digress, I chose not to follow the Bible or christianity based on my own study of the origins of both. There are many Pagan stories in the Bible that are spun into the role of Judahism and later Christianity. This does not mean that both beliefs are bunk it just means that now you have more belief systems to choose from. I do notice that you tried to paint your beliefs with the rosiest picture of all.

There are allot of good things to be learned here. Of course we're not always going to agree (that is what dubs try to do). This board is full of ex-dubs, interested parties, and JW. It's full of current Christians, Pagans, Atheists, Deists, and undecideds. I'm actually surprised there isn't more fighting going on but I think that the current state is due to most of us living intolerance at one point. I found this place by accident as well and am fully addicted.

In essence I agree with your post. However, I have to disagree with WholeWheat. The Daniel statement is far too generalized to be applied to anything. You may as well be reading a Horoscope in you local paper as more than likely that will describe you to a tee. The statement can be applied to any nation who is considered a world power at whatever point in time they happen to occupy. As far as cultural identity. You have to make that for yourself. Some do it by wearing red, white, and blue and carry an ultranationalistic attitude. Being a free country noone is forced to do anything. The door swings both ways and the beauty is you can live here and hate it because that is your right also.
I had a classmate from Sweden lay it down in brutal honest terms. She said most Swedes she knows hate American foriegn policies in the Mid East because the Swede's have a large muslim population that has been allowed to exist outside of government control. Hence, (her words) there is prejudice there against muslims but not really the black and white issues we have here. I do find it strange though that Europeans can see through our gov. bullshit and most of us can't. I would classify most Americans as Jehovah's Witnesses and the U.S. gov. as the WTS. Most just want to believe our government is trying to spread the "truth" of Democracy. Despite all of that, and this may sound like a contradiction, I think 90% of Americans just want to be left alone to live their lives. The other 10% get all the press.
