i'm not a fan of rap.
there are a few artists i like but i could count them on one hand.
i bought the last eminem cd and thought about 4 songs were "ok".
I'm not a fan of Rap. There are a few artists I like but I could count them on one hand. I bought the last Eminem CD and thought about 4 songs were "ok". I just bought the new one because of that damn song that their playing now keeps sticking in my head. Other than maybe 2-3 songs I think the disk is awesome. Cleanin Out My Closet is very powerful and amazing. Despite the controversy around this guy (which is not even new or original, remember Alice Cooper, and Ozzie) he does have some serious skill. I think as his music matures he'll be dropping the stupid Rap cliche's.
Of course my sister thinks I'm crazy but my entire CD collection has a little of everything from Enya to System of the Down. Although I can't stand country *ducks*.

does anyone like ani difranco?
i think she is absolutely beautiful as far as writing, music and thought.
does anyone agree?.
I don't think these actually "bump". I've only heard a little bit of her stuff. Despite sporting the obvious angry female motif I like her work as well.
well..it was bound to happen......she is one of my absolute favorites......here is my homage .
god sometimes you just don't come through/god sometimes you just don't come through/do you need a woman to look after you/god sometimes you just don't come through .
you make pretty daisies/pretty daisies love/i gotta find what you're doing about things here/a few witches burning/gets a little toasty here/i gotta find why you always go/when the wind blows/tell me your're crazy/maybe i'll understand/you got your 9 irons in the back seat just in case/heard you've gone south/well baby you love your new 4 wheel/i gotta find why you always go/when the wind blows .
I LOVE Tori. I put my headphones on and just sort of drift off letting her carry me away. I'm partial to Not the Red Baron myself. Her classic Hey Jupiter is pretty good as well.

know that evolution thread?
it's buried now somewhere around page 8 or 9 and still getting posts.
however not as many as one would expect given its initial popularity.
I just reread my post and realized that it didn't make as much sense as I thought. Hey, it was late and my medical terminology course is kickin my butt along with chemistry. I was merely suggesting that there may have been civilization preceeding the oldest that we know of today, Sumeria. I would wager that the Bible era was a time of dark ignorance which was followed by the Greeks and Romans. I do notice that it seems to be religion that causes these periods of dark ignorance.
Franc- I don't have a bible in my house nor will I allow one in my house. The ancient Hebrews are kind of a bad example because they were nothing more than wandering nomads with a savage God. There were other civilizations ongoing that were far more enlightened than the Hebrews. You will notice in the records of the greater civilizations that the Hebrews are barely mentioned at all so I doubt that there was any real influence from Jehovah. Egyption lore supports the big bang theory believe it or not (man I love the Discovery channel). They believed all things originated from a single tiny source, thus the architecture of their temples which started with a wide opening but its length slowly reduced to a small dark room. This was to represent that all in reality started from the smallest point in darkness then burst forth. I use this example to show that ancient people were allot smarter than we give them credit for. They may have used crude examples and ideas (by our standards) or even mythological story telling but they were on the same track as us today. Just like our day now they had their share of crackpots as well.
The Sumerians started Astrology and Astonomy. They didn't have ways to explain everything but they had basic concepts down and used stories to explain those concepts. One person to read up on, although he is a weirdo, is Zacheriah Sitchin. They even had a map of our solar system containing planets that we only discovered in the 20th century. Although they have 12 planets on their map. They also a have a planet in the place of our asteroid belt and it was only theorized recently that there may have indeed been a planet there at one time. My point is we shouldn't discount what ancient civilizations had to say because we have different words to describe what they may have been thinking. It should be noted that I do not consider the Hebrews or early Christians as civilizations as they were nothing more than scattered tribes. As far as the Bible, it's really not good for anything unless you choose to base your morality on it's mythology. Even then there are better lessons to be learned from other cultures.

I'll throw in again. One of the things that irritates me about some scientists and especially the WTS is this presumption that people in ancient cultures were stupid. I think that the very existence of the Pyramids proves that wrong but many still insist on it. As if somehow we are sooo much more advanced. In some ways we are but in some ways we've reverted. Aristotle thought existence to be composed of 4 elements water, fire, earth, air. Well we now know he was wrong but during his time period that was the best explanation that was possible. Right now we have made theories based on the best information available as well. It is fact that evolution does occur and until something strange happens it will remain a fact. You can argue until you're blue in the face but until some type of new proof is shown you're just spinning your wheels.
So where does this lead me? Aristotle was correct for his time. Of the things that applied to his time period he gave the best possible explanation. As of this time period evolution (in some form) is the best possible explanation. New theories that I don't know jack about are popping up now. String and new chaos (I hope someone can give a short explanation of both). Anyway, that is the soap box speech. Given the way that the history of man has gone there seems to be a pattern of dark ignorance followed by enlightenment followed by dark ignorance and so on. There may have been civilizations older than we know that were part of this same trend thus the amazing feat of the pyramids. Ok, now I'm rambling. Time for bed.

there is an evolution question bubbling up down the threads a little way, and it minded me to try to really get to the nub of the opposition to the technique.. i would like to pose very serious questions, and i hope they attracts serious, considered responses - once and for all.. why is it impossible, in the minds of anti-evolutionists, that god did indeed create us, the earth, the sun, and everything around us including the entire physical universe, and that evolution was his technique; evolution as a divine technique?
how do you know, how are you so certain that's not the case?
how would you explain your opposition to god if he told you personally that, yep, that's the way he did it alright?.
I know I shouldn't bother but I will. Quantum, the Bible is not only inconsistent, and contradictory it is not even a remotely original writing. So if you want to put your "faith" in a book of old propoganda then so be it I'm sure everyone is trying to ignore you on purpose. You sound more like U2K actually. You should know that the person that thinks he is sane and everyone else is crazy is often the crazy one.
Back to the topic. I'll be sticking with my "life is easy theory". People tend to act like we are the only lifeforms in the universe and thus coorrelate that with some kind of miracle (whether it be science or religion). I think that there are a buttload of lifeforms scattered everywhere. Too often people think of alien life as some type of E.T. lookin guy but I'm talking in terms of single cell organisms. I haven't kept up on it but I believe they found a rock from Mars that contained some fossils of bacterial organisms (could be wrong though). Unfortunately, my theory cannot be proven until more evidence is gathered. That being said, I don't think our existence is a matter of luck or controlled chaos because out of billions and billions of organisms that may have been present at the begining of this planet something was bound to happen. Fitting theology in that is a different story. I'm just addressing the actual evolution. Of course this is all just my idea and unlike some people's is subject to change depending on new evidence and research.

I know how you feel gravedancer thus my Lord of the Rings analogy earlier. The difference being J.R.R Tolken is a better writer than Paul. I know when someone starts quoting Bible verses to me I just blank over. The Koran is just as much a waste of time to me as the Bible. I too hope you stick around for this topic.

this is a sincere question.
do you worry about offending active witnesses?
I fear inaction more than action when it comes to JW's. I've lost good friends because they're too blinded to know any different. As already stated most JW's are offended at anything that questions their Dogma. The WTS doesn't have its kid gloves on when they deal with us there is no reason for us to have ours on.
i have two slots for ddr ram.
i've got one stick of 256 megs but want to get some more.
i didn't pay attention the first time i bought my stick of ram so i don't know the specs of it other than the capacity.
Whew, finally someone answered. Thanks Lizard didn't think of that.
