The UN Thing

i would like to pick the brains of those in the know..... so i am kinda preparing for the big conversation with my mom, but i am not being brave about it - i have unplugged my phone, just in case she tries to call me tonight.

what i am looking for is a bit of advice on the un thing... i have read the un letter, and i have found the jw spin in response.

what would be a suitable rebuttal for their spin on why they were members?

The WTBTS spin is "we did it for a library card". Fact is, you don't need a card to access their library. So, what is the reason?
It doesn't matter. This association with the "Great Harlot" that disgusting thing that causes desolation is a serious matter to all
Jehovah's Witnesses. How serious? Well, if what the WTBTS teaches were true and Armeggedon were to have happened during
those eleven years ... would it be fair to say that all people under the WTBTS organization - the entire congregation of Jehovah's
Witnesses would be destroyed for associating with the "Great Harlot"? Absolutely! Then would it be safe to say that the WTBTS
put the lives of every congregation into great peril? Yes! For eleven years, the WTBTS was secretly "in bed" with the Wild Beast!
Once it was discovered, they quietly swept it under the rug hoping some kind of "damage control" would keep it from becoming
public. Now, any Jehovah's Witness should take this very very seriously! How could a religion that claims to be God's true
organization have ANY association with the "Great Harlot"? How is that possible?

The only logical explaination is ... it's not God's organization. It's a false religion and a false prophet.

Your mom may say, "Well, they learned their lesson. It was a mistake. People make mistakes!"
True, but when other religions make mistakes - the WTBTS is quick to point and say, "False Religion!", but when the WTBTS
makes a mistake they call it "human error". See the hypocrisy?

Mormon documentary on PBS

there was an interesting documentary on the mormons yesterday.

you could substitute jw for mormon for most of it (except teachings) especially concerning obedience to the higher ups, not questioning the organization, etc.

they disfellowship and excommunicate (excommunication being a worse fate) and if anyone questions the church they are considered an apostate.

I have close friends who are Mormon and I just don't understand how they can believe the things they are taught ...
without any question or research. Most of their doctrine blows the JW out of the water ... mind-boggling stuff like
baptising the dead, becoming Gods in the afterlife, protective garments, etc. These aren't "crazy" people either.
I've met several and they are all clean-cut intelligent persons who you could mistaken as a JW instantly. LOL!
They can't drink tea or coffee because caffine is like a drug and you could become addicted. (No coffee?!!!)
BUT you can drink Coca-Colas. Hmmm ... what's the difference? The Book of Mormon has NOT ONE SHRED
OF EVIDENCE that any of the events in the book took place. It's total fantasy!

not me personally, but my brother-in-law was to give a talk and wasn't completely prepared.

his talk wasn't long enough.. the elder took him to the back room and belittled him to the point where he cried.

i guess this is what they mean by.

Wow, BB ... that was pretty heartless of the PO to give you such a guilt-trip like that. It reminds me of everytime my wife and I
would take a small break from the meetings, but when we returned - without hesitation - one of the Elders would just have to make
some small comment, "Hey, we missed you last week!" (Yeah, right!) or something to that effect. I hated having to go up to our
Bible Study elder to get a new Kingdom Ministry after we hadn't gone in several weeks ... he would really lay it on thick.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I think from one human-being to another it is understanding to take care of your parents when
in need. I would have done the same thing as you.

i am not a jehovah's witness but have been talking with a few jehovah's witnesses for about two months now, about once every week or every other week.

on saturday they came and we had 'bible study' (actually starting to go through what does the bible really teach?

), and as they left they gave us a list of their meeting times at the local congregation and invited us to observe the lord's evening meal with them on march 22.

I'm asking myself the same thing!!....this year could the first Ive ever missed...on principle if I go Iam showing support for all the false teachings I hate so much!

I finally Left!

i would like to give the full details of my leaving the jw's, but i don't have a lot of time at this moment.

basically i was raised in the organization and it drove me pretty insane bacause my father was an elder, mother a pioneer, sister a bethelite, etc.

so, i did the whole thing for a long time.

If you insist on observing the Lord's death, I suggest doing it at home or with a small group. You can make the crackers yourself with stone ground, organic whole wheat flour (to keep it pure, I recommend organic--it's better for you anyway) and plain water. Make a dough that holds balls, and place golf-ball sized pieces on a baking sheet (with parchment paper), and flatten them into sheets. Bake until crisp. Cool before serving. Then select any unfortified red wine, or homemade red wine. After sundown, read the account in the Bible (but not the New World Translation) and actually partake of the crackers (they will be fresher) and the wine. This works best if you do it in groups of about 12 or less, where everyone can observe what's going on. You will miss the hounding, the fighting to get in and out of the parking lot, and the boring 45 minute talk that way.

This is what I'll be doing. Can unleavened bread be purchased somewhere? What regulations as regarding the wine? I'll be reading
from the King James bible.

Also, it is worth noting that those who decide to partake and join the anointed class are treated "differently" with high suspicion and doubts.
I believe most JWs feel anyone who is "anointed" is just crazy or disillusioned. To be "anointed" is like saying you're better than anyone
else. They don't take it lightly.

What's with Ex-Jw's who join another religion? Fool me Twice????

sorry no offense but why do some ex-witnesses here join another group....we have a muslim {muhamed was given a koran by an angel in a cave?

}....we have some baptists etc......i researched the bible and found there are 1,000's of gospels not part of the bible...so what's the deal...."fool me once shame on you..fool me twice shame on me" or do you have a reason for continued belief in religion...i really wan't to know since iam agnostic and don't believe in god or evolution????

Not me. I was a Methodist before denouncing it to join the JWs. There was nothing particularly wrong with being a Methodist, but
it was commanded that to become a JW you had to write a letter to your old religion and denounce them. Regardless, I am now
convinced without a doubt that all man-made religions are a stumbling block. A person only needs to read their Bibles or whatever
book to get inspired to be a good person and not hurt anyone. God will judge your heart.

Religions need people.
People don't need religion.

It wouldn't hurt to go, but I would advise against it for the sole reason of what it implies - unless you know that you have a
"higher calling" for a Heavenly Hope to be a King or Priest and serve Jesus Christ in Heaven as one of the anointed 144,000
- only then should you partake in the eatting of the bread and drinking of the wine (emblems). You'll notice that most - if not all -
of the congregation will pass these emblems without partaking since most believe to have the hope to be resurrected in
Paradise Earth. Confused? You should be. In a nutshell, you'll be rejecting the offering Jesus commanded, not just to his
Apostles, but to anyone who accepts his sacrifice.

OMG - I did it - I told my Mom and Dad how I feel...

my mom and dad came round today and we ended up at the local mall with my hubby and kids having lunch.

after lunch my hubby went home with the kids and i stayed on with my folks to do some shopping.

as we were driving home, i pointed out my son's new school, and we were discussing the merits of private vs. public schools etc, and mom says "i just hope that by the time the kids get to highschool that the end has come, and you and the family are in the truth".. i mumbled something about having my doubts.

Of course, you'll still have to face a visit from the Elders who will try to reel you back in.
