oopa- I can relate though, as my own wife turned me in for being on JWDI wonder what happened after that?
He yelled, "Frau Blücher!"
hello guys!.
as you know, my wife woke up about a month and a half ago.
recently, by "mistake", we talked with her mother, (a hard-core believer) some details that we shouldn't at this moment.

i think the loss of the book study will hit some like a death of a friend.
it will mark the end of an era.
it will forever change the religion of jehovah's witnesses and i believe the change is completely irreversible.. of course, most witnesses will be delighted by this.
It's good enough for the Brothers too ...

Even if nothing comes out of it, I'm sure this experience has put a bad blemish on the relationship with your MIL. I pray that your exodus is quick and painless.

Wow! Her own mother feds you both to the wolves. That speaks volumes!
since it seems the cats out of the bag on the book study being elimated from small groups at homes, i feel it ok to discuss the "why" of the society's actions on this manner.
many seem to be confused as to why the wt would elimate another evening of busywork.
some see it as a loosening of the riens on the wt's part to let the congregation breathe.....i see it as the complete opposite....i see it as another control tactic, one that has been in the works for a while.
Is it just a coinencidence that all these changes are happening so close together?
1. Separate study materials to save costs
2. Bethel layoffs
3. Elimination of Book Study night
Could this be the beginning for the end of a false religion?
"Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird!"
"Babylon will become a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals, An object of horror and hissing, without inhabitants."
Money is drying up - no new material - everyone is tired. Time to cut their losses and run.

Wing: honestly, no I can't see this move as another control tactic. I do see it as a move to make it easier to be a JW in today's modern world where it is now common for both parents to work full time. Book studies are not a haven for questioning WT doctrine.
Puh-lease! When has the WTBTS ever gave two shits about family?

The society feels its time to tighten the leash. More control. You can bet the "spiritual food" is going to be ushering in even more brain-washing restrictions during the year.

It'll be mixed. Some consider the home Book Study as a way to get out of the cold and impersonal Kingdom Hall and socialize with members and look forward to goodies at the end ... with that gone, some will feel "punished" for having this special time taken away. Others will praise having one less meeting during the week. I spoke with my wife about it (she's still active) and she would rather have an evening off. Lump as much "spiritual food" into one meeting and everyone will feel like a glutton.
