I DO NOT publish thank you
In fact, I don't buy, place, or advocate anything THEY publish. I can sit through some meeting, but that's the extent of it.

for me it was a combination of things over a long period of time.
being raised as a witness, you do things by rote.
but when you see sooooooooo many watchtower inconsistencies, mistreatment of the "brothers", elder abuse, and simple lack of love, it begins to make you start seriously thinking.

I was DFed for smoking and felt the pains of being disfellowshipped since I had much family in the organisation.
I went into a christian bookstore to use their commentaries/encyclopedia's/dictionaries to see the scripturalness of disfellowshipping.
While I was in there happened to go down the "cult" section and saw books and books about JW's. I began to look at some of them as I figured I was DFed anyways so why worry about looking at anti-dub material. I had always been curious as to what COC was about but they didn't have it in there and so I looked at other books such as ones written by David Reed and some others. Those books began to open my eyes that something was wrong with the Organisation. I decided to order COC.
When that book came in (COC) and I read it and got through a few chapters, I remember falling to the floor in my kitchen in tears and fell apart when I realised.........this was NOT the truth. From there I read all could read about the dubs, then found the internet and found "Freeminds" and Macgregor Ministries. Freeminds led me to H20 and JWD. From there I became a dirty heathen apostate bastard from hell

it's no wonder so many witnesses need medication since they must rely on the faithful slave do make decisions and do their thinking for them.. evidently jehovah changed his mind once again in the articles shown below and thanks to the fds they let the publishers in on it.. the watchtower march 1, 2002 p.30 .
is it correct to say that jehovah's mercy tempers his justice?.
although this expression has been used, it is best to avoid it since it seems to imply that jehovah's mercy softens or restrains his justice, as if his mercy were superior to the harsher quality of justice.
They admit (when pushed into a corner) that they used to celebrate 'pagan' holidays, brothers were allowed to fight during WWI and up until 1945 (I think) were allowed to take a blood transfusion if they saw fit.
Good point sister Mary
They get around this by saying that once they saw the error in their ways, they changed, whereas christendom sees their error yet continues to promote their errors.
The problem is, they continue to make errors as their new light on things prove and their ever changing doctrines. They are allowed mistakes and to make changes, but christendom is not.

Fairmind, if she ever gets to that point and she'll read other material....order her "Index of Watchtower Errors" by David Reed. It has ALL of their flip flops and errors with refrences and is an excellent book for people like your wife.
Good Luck bro

today was the first day of three for this year's "follow the christ" district convention.. for the first time in as many years as i can go back, the theme of this program was jesus christ.. most of the program was ok. the talks considered jesus, his life and his works.
there was nothing about the talks that i considered insulting or controlling.. could this be it?
could the society really be going jesus-centric?.
Excellent point truthseeker....and your post was awesome.....well stated!Jesus said, "A slave is not greater than his master." - How does the Society correlate the two?
The society has always been real good at packaging whatever it is that they are trying to instill in the publishers. It's like passive aggresion, they seem like they are saying the right thing while all the while their motive isn't what you expect.
Follow them as we follow Jesus eh? If we all followed what they had believed just post 1918 ( the year christ approved them as his Slave), we'd all be disfellowshipped for apostasy.
Christ didn't make the mistakes they have made....yet comparing them to him, he did. They are the biggest blashemers against christ and Jehovah, yet they blame christendom for holding the title.

Now this quote from the WT is steaming me. "This expression has been used"--- by whom? The WT!!!! Did they admit this? NO!!
Now it should be "avoided" because "This is not correct." But you will not see the WTS admitting that they were the ones who "implied" incorrect teachings, nor are they apologizing.
The inference is that the rank and file were incorrect......once again......
Quandry, I didn't even notice your point untill I read this post of yours. Good point!
Yaddayadda also noticed it was "a type" of a correction.....but not an admittance that THEY made a mistake.
This was a cheapass, chickenshit way to make a correction without having to admit it was THEM who had the former idea.
Had this subject been of a more serious nature......say an adjustment with regards to beastality and a publisher stuck to the old idea written in '65......they would be disfellowshipped for not following the SLAVES latest explanation like they actually did with "pornia" and it's meaning years ago. This was when a woman couldn't divorce her hubby if he commited beastiality.......then later they changed beastiality to "pornia" and she COULD divorce if he did.
How many have suffered like this through changing doctrine is anyones guess.

the bible explains that adam and eve were created human and because they had eaten from the tree of knowledge good and evil, they became almost like god and the angels.- gen 3:22-24. they knew the difference between good and bad, which the rest of the animals did not.
god kicked them out of the garden of eden to keep them from eating from the tree of life and becoming immortal- just like god.
if they had been able to get to the tree of life, they could have lived forever.
Moshe,
If you remember a poster named Schizm, he started a thread that ended up about the Tree of Life and he actually made some interesting points along your line of thinking.
If you can read past all his crap, take a look.....especially pages 3 and 4

Is it correct to say that Jehovah's mercy tempers his justice?
Although this expression has been used, it is best to avoid it since it seems to imply that Jehovah's mercy softens or restrains his justice, as if his mercy were superior to the harsher quality of justice. This is not correct.
Hence, if we were to say that Jehovah's mercy tempered his justice, we would also have to say that his justice tempered his mercy.
Compare with these articles
Watchtower 1965 July 1 p.415 Tempering Justice with Mercy
As during Noah's day when Jehovah tempered his justice by deferring execution for 120 years, so today he tempers his justice by deferring his war, called "the war of the great day of God the Almighty." (Rev. 16:14) Since 1918, he has shown undeserved kindness toward disobedient mankind by holding back his executional forces in the heavens in order that some "flesh would be saved."
Watchtower 1997 December 1 pp.10-11 Jehovah, a God "Ready to Forgive"
4 We read: "As far off as the sunrise is from the sunset, so far off from us he has put our transgressions. As a father shows mercy to his sons, Jehovah has shown mercy to those fearing him." A potter handles his clay vessels firmly yet delicately, ever mindful of their nature. So, too, Jehovah, the Great Potter, tempers his dealings with us according to the frailty of our sinful nature.—Compare 2 Corinthians 4:7.
Watchtower 1965 July 1 pp.413-4 Tempering Justice with Mercy
The great God of the universe has given mankind good laws, and from time to time he has had to balance the scales of justice by punishing those who violate those laws. In so doing, however, he warms up cold justice and tempers it with kindness and mercy.
Gee, no contradiction there eh?
Now then, would someone please find me my Prozac

general apathy about religion.. i don't know precisely when it happened.
but at some point i began to stop needing anything 'organized' in my life religiously.
not too long ago - as attested to by multiple threads i started here - i was still wishing to replace the ritual of religion at the kingdom hall with some other church.

So, is it wrong to "lose your spirituality" ? If so, why ?
Rabbit, you overzealous breeding bastard 'o friend 'o mine,
I don't think that is a yes or no question. Of course it wouldn't be wrong to lose it, nor would it be right. Each person has the right to choose that and some have more reason to be on the pro side than others do.
As for myself, I'm a spiritual person in that I believe in powers beyond those man can prove exists.

predestination is something ive been thinking a bit about of late, mainly due to a wt article on the subject printed in the may awake, which i read after skimming through the magazine at the weekend.
i believe the wt reasoning on the subject is that god has the ability to see into the future, but that he chooses not to look into the future, as it would negate our free will, although the recent may article was more a criticism of predestination, and although they didnt assert their own position, what struck me from reading the article, and contemplating the wt article in general is that they seem to focus on time a lot, and its this part where the wt idea of predestination seems to fall down to me.
if god created the universe and everything in it, as a jw would assert, this would also mean he would have had to have created time (which is a product of our universe) and so before god created time, it, obviously, wouldnt have existed, and without time, there cant be a past, present and future.
Thanks Narkster, excellent comments
No Matter how the context reads, one thing is for sure. If the Lamb was slaughtered from the founding of the world.....god KNEW beforehand a redeemer would be required for Adams fall, hence, he knew in ADVANCE.
Some have said that he had a plan in mind ( that being jesus redemption) "just in case" Adam would fall. In other words, he didn't allow himself to know Adam would fall, but he made a way out BEFOREHAND just in case he did fall.
