Why believe in the Bible?

now i know that a few of you would give me some sarcastic answers as to why to believe in it, or maybe i should say, have faith in the god who inspired it.. but i want to know why a person should believe in it?

i know that i want to, i want to believe in a god who cares for us, i want to believe that he will put an end to the misery that surrounds us, i want to believe in a hope for the future.. i am not trying to be idealistic either.

but is there solid evidence to believe in it.

There is nothing wrong about questioning what you have mentioned.
Actually there have been some really good arguments from various posters here, concerning this subject.

I am in the process of finding out who decided which books, written about Jesus, would be part of the bible? Who decided?

God would have to have told certain ones...."I want this mans book to be part of the bible"
There were many others who wrote at that time but their writings were not to be part of the bible. Who decided this?...God?....Man?
Was it a church council? Who were they? Could they be trusted since they were all imperfect?

Is it true that bible stories are similar,or identical, to ancient legends and folklore older than the bible? Is this a coincidence?

Why is the God of the old testament so different than Jesus?

If any out there have info. on this, it would be appreciated.

DR.."The Watchtower should embrace the changes advocated as it cleans up their headquarters and would show the world that they truly do make ever effort to be a morally clean organization.

And then what? What if they did?
Would they now be a good organisation?
Would this fix everything?

Also....the fact would still remain that the ONLY reason they would change in this regard is.....THEY WERE FORCED TO!

some on this board have stated that many here are bitter and need to move on from criticizing the wtbs, even implying that there was something wrong with the mental state of ones who continue in their attacks of jws.

this following seemed to me to hit the nail on the head as to why so many of us stay involved long after weve left the borg.

also, even the watchtower has stated something like, why dont people just leave, why do they have to publicly attack jws?

Well.......I must have developed some self esteem after leaving the dubs 7 years ago, because I have REALLY changed in my personality when someone crosses my path unjustly. I have become so short fused in this regard.... and I like it!

Nobody NEEDS to take any s**t from anyone when they don't deserve it.

I have found if you "turn your cheek" too much, you get the crap kicked out of you!

in g2,(guardian part 2)page 14/15,a question of colour, we are informed that each individual differs by about 3 million nuceotides.. its says in an anti-evolution article that it is impossible to have more than 3 nucleotides changes per generation(it would be fatal!

)therefore if above is true, there must have been 1.5 million generations for everyone to be here.. meaning the wt idea of 4,000 bc must be bullshit!

well, one day joe blow comes along, and sweeps jane off her feet, w/ his delightful smile and his vivacious personality--and jane starts to get confused: she has deeps feeling for john doe, but she just can't resist this joe blow.

somehow, in the middle of ruining her dream life--the nice house, loving, caring person to share it with, she finds herself totally smittened by joe blow, and starts thinking about him more than she thinks about her john doe dude.

Become a Witness??

hello all...well i am very new to this site.

i have recently been contemplating of fiding out more about the jehovah's witness religion.

i have done some research, have talked and am friends with witnesses, and am ready to take it a step further.

All of this was good EXCEPT... "These things will help you when you start going to the meetings".

When you start going to meetings, then all of the reading you do will be interpreted for you by what a group of men has said is correct.

You will no longer to understand the bible as you see it but rather as THEY see it.

If you disagree after you are baptised, you face being disfellowshiped

bear with me a moment while i inter the forbidden territory of explaining what i believe to be the spiritual message.. everything in the hebrew scriptures are an object lesion to show us what god does not want.

Hi blindfool...you said "I think most former JW's still cling to the WTBTS's teachings about how bad churches are".

I suppose in some cases this is true. Many however, see a similar pattern in churches that has much in common with the witnesses.

See if you can hold a position in most fundamentalist churches, if you told them you do not believe in the Trinity, you like to have a couple of beers after work, you like to go dancing with your wife, then play 30 or 40 bucks at the casino on occation.

The point is churches CAN and do ....not always, impose certain lifestyles on people that they have chosen is fit. That is only one example.

I would like to say I enjoyed your post blindfool.

I never really thought about this statement from them, but what you said makes a lot of sense.......kind of like, ..."The Bible- a book for ALL mankind".Yeah right! It should read...'The Bible- a book only understood by our organisation"

Actually the word "MANKIND" in their quote means Jehovah's witnesess only, and NO others!
