Now and Then~WOW! Glad your prayer was answered!
Loz~So, your man was a gift from God, too! How sweet that we have that in common.

have you ever prayed for something and actually gotten what you asked for?
specific examples would be nice to hear about.. .

Yes. Big old prayer answered.
My oldest son was growing up and I was getting lonely. He was gone all the time with friends. I had stopped dating a few years before to focus on raising my son. I decided it was time to start dating again. I sat down and wrote out a list of 10 things I couldn't stand in a man and 10 things I absolutely had to have in a man. I told God that what I wanted for Christmas was the man for me, the one who fit my list to a tee, and that I wanted more children.
I met my husband on Christmas Eve. We've been together ever since, almost 10 years. His first wife died and they had two children, whom I have been raising for years and years. My husband met the requirements of my list perfectly. I've often referred to my husband as my Christmas present.
If I'd known God was going to be so specific in answering my prayer, I'd have added more things to each side of the list! he he he

if so - without divulging any names , approximately how much was donated to the wt society ?
if you are aware of approximate amounts.
as many know the wt society yearly puts out calls in their publications for witnesses to donate trust funds, wills, inheritances, estates, jewelry, cars and whatever else they have to promote the aleged " kingdom interests " in furthering the " good news " around the world.. personally i feel it's all been a scam to continue exercising control over witnesses by influencing them to financially deprive themselves so the wt society can continue it's operations.
The legacies I know of were to the local KH. One was for $15,000 and the other was for the entire balance of the estate, which exceeded $100,000 after probate.
My parents have a joint will that divides things up. However, my mother has another will so that, if she outlives my dad, when she dies, everything goes to the WTS. She even used a form the WTS provided. Unless the markets completely go under, this means the WTS will get about $2 million from my mom and her children will get nothing.
when she was on oprah some years ago, promoting her book escape, i was mesmerized.
(for those of you who are not familiar, she was a member fo the fundamental mormon sect and broke free).
i went to school and had worked with mormon's in the past, so i was intruigued.
Gayle, I've been writing my own story of growing up Hovie. As my therapist puts it, my life history is "horrific." However, I'm waiting for my parents to die before trying to have it published. (Not that they're dying and not that I wish them ill, just that I don't want to deliberately hurt them.)
I'm writing mine as a work of fiction, though, so that I can incorporate things that happened to my friends and siblings who want their stories told but don't wish to be outed. So everything in my book is true but didn't necessarily happen to the protagonist. Of course, there is creative license.

I'm very familiar with Carolyn Jessup, although I have not read her book. You're correct, the similarities are eerie.
For myself, for some reason (I call it my Guardian Angel) I was always attracted to books by Catholic authors or with lots of Catholic situations. It made me wonder what in the world the JDubs do that could be considered worship. It made me long for a connection to the early Christians and the Christians through the ages. I just wasn't satisfied with this Russell-come-lately religion. I think we all long for ritual in our lives, to some extent, and for a higher purpose, and I found it in Catholic-themed books. It made me long for something richer than what I had. It has a lot to do with why I'm Catholic today.
I still can't figure out what the JDubs consider to be worship.
God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.
... is this "no holding hands in prayers" law really true???
i have not heard of this before?
when did this happen?
All I can say is, this is just more evidence of how stupid the Borg are.
............and really believe that it is right that god will destroy them soon?.
a baby is a beutiful, innocent vulnerable little human being.
how can they really believe that it is right and just that god destroys millions of babies and children?.
Debator, it is a fact that humans kill other humans. It's almost always related to politics. Many children and adults starve to death, not because of a lack of food, but because their governments prohibit their access to food. Just as governments get in the way of people receiving needed medicines or even mosquito netting to help cut down on malaria.
Most of the killing of innocents in this world is politically motivated. So are the murderous intentions of the god of the Jehovah's Witnesses. He wants to kill off everyone except those who are willing to follow him mindlessly and without question.
You know, the god of the Jehovah's Witnesses sounds a lot like Hitler.
jehovah could read the hearts of david and bath-sheba and see their genuine repentance.
taking.
such a factor into consideration, he judged them accordingly, in a merciful and loving manner.. .
What's all the talk about not holding hands during prayer???????
I'm with Mrs. Jones. I think the little piggy crying, "Whee, Whee, Whee!" all the way home is the funniest commercial I've seen in years.
