  Oh ! I have come home ! A pedant's thread !

  I can understand typos,I don't always have time to go back and corrrect mine, but to use totally the wrong word,or leave a word out, i.e we often see on here "I could care less" when they mean "could not" care less.

  Another gripe I have is American spelling, now I know that not all spelling in proper English, like what I use, Tee Hee, makes sense, but mostly it gives a clue as to the origin and even original meaning and usage ( Etymology)of the word, American spelling loses that, and therefore loses some colour (notice the spelling) in the process.

  Shall we all correct every mistake on here ? I hope not, many valued posters do not have English as their first language, but we understand them well.

  Nobody should even be shot down in flames metaphorically on here, let alone shot, as in the video, great comic skit that. ( ,,,oops, bad English usage, Fowler spinneth in his grave)

  I can clearly see my progress on my journey, and I wonder how far I will travel, I don't think there really is a final destination, the journey ends at death of course for me, but all the time I am alive I shall travel along the road to greater enlightenment,tolerance and compassion.

  "If you want to convince me then show me" usually comes from those who believe in god, how ironic is that !

  Abiogenesis as it took place to start life on the fairly new Earth may be impossible to replicate now ,on Earth. But as has been said, some form of Abiogenesis may be attainable in a Lab. I am sure it will be soon, we are almost there.

  Even this will not convince hard-line creationists. They are as impossible to convince as JW's are on any subject that conflicts with their baseless faith.

  You have no Internet access there I take it, so we shall miss your contributions here, come back all fired up and ready to post.

  First thing to post is more pictures, it gives me a lift to see even just pictures of beautiful places.

  theology is the study of religion and religions are human systems of spirituality.

  it could then be said that theology is the study of the applications of human spirituality.

  human spirituality is a chosen way of life.

  Godrulz "Theology proper is Biblical.............. " You do remind me of the W.T with your own definition of words.

  If theology limits itself to the Judeo-Christian god, then it certainly is not a science, let alone the "queen of sciences.

  It would be like someone studying early English literature and limiting themselves to Geoffrey of Monmouth.

  Theology is the "Study of the nature of god and religious truth" in my dictionary.

  As Dawkins rightly says , you may as well have Degrees in Fairyology. It cannot be a science. See Paine above.

  it's one of those battles that can be very difficult to beat.

  i do not blame my jw past for my weight gain, i just didn't do anything about it because one day i was going to be perfect and it didn't matter.. in past years i've lost weight, picked up again and usually more, and then lost again.

  in those times that i applied myself i genuinely was sincere and thought my mind was made up.

  I met an old JW friend in the street just a few minutes ago, we talked pleasantly for a few minutes, and then we somehow got on to "How long God has allowed things to continue" , I was able to say a bit, and leave him, as he scuttled off, wrestling with the dichotomy of a"Loving" God and the problem of Evil.

  i believe that the jw's destroy any enjoyment that you could have out of this life!.

  being a youngster that was almost born in, any single part of our life that wasn't part of the gb grand plan for world domination is evil, i still find it problematic to really enjoy wholesome worldly activities, thankfully my wife and kids don't have this!

  i believe that i will probably relax into the fact that it is not that the world is bad but the jw's.. i long for the day that this truly destructive religion will end, hopefully the rank and file will become disillusioned and leave when the 100 years are up in 2014 and the tower falls!.

  as soon as you can prove it, it's no longer belief, but knowledge.

  I agree J.H, no such animal ! as Terry points out, your trust in a certain outcome because of your belief can be proven by time to be a mis-placed trust, but this does not make belief anything different than it always was, i.e trusting in something with no proof.

  Hence I make the point to any that are interested, (J.W's are always asking me about my beliefs "now") that I have no beliefs.

  I know that the pedantic philosophers would try to prove me wrong on that, but I cannot think of a single thing in which I trust, that does not have proof to make that trust seem sound.
