Exposing the WT Affair with the UN - 9/11/11 Call to Action!
by Timothy Riches inalthough many ex-jehovah's witnesses know about the watchtower's secret 10 year affair with the united nations, the vast majority of jehovah's witnesses do not know.
on sunday september 11, 2011, we plan to let them know about it!
there was never a formal disclosure to jehovah's witnesses at meetings or in wt literature or letters telling the jw's about the affair.

i applaud any effort to get JW's to look at what they are part of, and if they look at this issue and think about it, they would realise that the WT LIED about it, that the whole exercise was so unwise it calls in to question the claim to be "God's Spirit Directed Organization" and that the leadership think that the average JW will swallow any s**t they are fed.
Sadly, the last statement is only too true, and I fear that little impact will be made, but if just one JW wakes up because of this campaign it will have been worth it.

Do any here have adult children living with them?
by Was New Boy inmy 34 year old daughter may be moving in with me for awile when i move to arizona.
we get along great but we haven't lived together in 14 years.
in these tough money times we feel two could live cheaper than one......i'm looking forward to the move.. three years ago i had my 28 year old son move back in with me for six months.

We have only been empty nesters for a couple of months, son No 2 went to Oz, and we hope does not move back in at home, he says he won't.
Not that we don't love him, and miss him a lot, but there is a time that kids should live in their own place, after all he is 59 ! only joking, but the little bugger is truly 29, so needs to live his own life entirely.
If either of our sons truly needs to come back home to live, they would be welcome, but we do love the fredom we now have to make as much noise as we like when we like etc etc, and we don't get the lectures when we go out, "Be good, don't be late " etc that we used to get (it was as though we were the kids !)

C-Span. Irish Parliament and Strong Remarks Agst. Vatican See
by Band on the Run inwe aren't the only ones in pain.
c-span is running a program based on statements concerning a child abuse report dealing with the holy see.
as an american, it is fascinating to watch.

Eire, as opposed to Northern Ireland, is mostly Catholic, but the church really has taken a thumping over abuse, and rightly so, respect to the Irish for exposing their own church's shortcomings.
I hope the WT gets such bad publicity, it is guilty of exactly the same disgusting treatment of its own abuse victims, where is the love one would expect in a christian organization ?

WHAT DOES THE WATCHTOWER Really TEACH?
by 00DAD inwhat does the watchtower really teach?
i have been developing a list of wt doctrines/beliefs that are plainly in opposition to clear, simple scriptural teachings/ideas.
these could be used to clarify important questions and address key topics for discussion.

Of course all the unique doctrines they hold to are in error, but the insidious mind control that teaches people the opposite of what Jesus taught in the "Golden Rule", the constant propaganda against non JW's that leads JW's to feel all such people are evil, the teaching that makes JW's subsume their normal love for family members, so that they will shun their DF'd offspring, or worse, cause the death of their own children by refusing blood tranfusions, this teaching is just EVIL through and through.

How Did You Get Rid of Your Bound Volumes?
by Eiben Scrood inmy town will no longer collect old books like that as trash and they're pretty hard to burn.
my solution has been to include one in every bag of used cat litter when i clean the cat boxes.
i've gotten rid of around 30 that way and i'm about halfway there.

Burned the buggers. I know that is not very "green" of me, but I needed to get rid of them quickley, and I didn't want the poisoned nonsense contained in them to fall in to other hands.

Bemused...
by dozy ingot chatting to an old jw friend last night that i haven't spoken to for years & caught up with a lot of old gossip.
he is still active - high-up - knows the fault lines in the jw system but stays because he "doesn't know where else to go" & it works ok for him & his family.
whatever floats his boat... anyway........he told me a piece of news that totally floored me.... a jw in london has run off with another sister & been dfd.

Hey wotchermean, "hobbled aftet her" ? I am in my sixties and I can still chase the girls, its just that when I catch one I can't remember what I chased her for !
Any relationship can easily be more frail than it looks to us looking in from the outside, perhaps the guy got fed up with forty years of the missionary position !
I bet there was a bit of two-way traffic in this too, the lady he hobbled after must have sent out some signals.

The Makeweight Scenario
by cedars ini just thought i'd share something if you don't mind.. my conviction in the legitimacy of the society was slowy eroded over a number of years simply by reading the publications and becoming increasingly frustrated at how little the interpretations of prophecy and scripture made sense, added to the complete ineptitude of senior figures in the organisation.. for me, the "glue" that kept everything roughly held together into something that can be called a "faith" was the concept of "increasing light", which as you all know is the principle employed by the society to excuse any mistakes or backtracks that are made.
they routinely flog proverbs 4:18, which as we all know has nothing to do with gradual refinements in understanding when read in context.
regardless of this, the concept managed to keep me loyal to the organisation for quite some time, as i was too fearful to bring it under direct scrutiny.

A very well crafted question Cedars, and one that leads on to many more in the minds of an honest hearted person. I will try it out if I ever get the chance.

To shave or not to shave? That is the question. A fun subject.
by TotallyADD inwhen we moved up to pa back in late april the first thing i did when we got here was to grow a beard.
not a full face beard just around the mouth beard.
i love the look but my wife although she thinks i look good with it does make me look older because it is grey.

I wore a full beard for thirteen years, whilst being a M.S in the Congregation, the kissing did not diminish, but don't tell my wife about it !
I thought this thread might be for the ladies when I read the title, you know Brazilian or what ?
