  How do Jehovah’s Witnesses arrive at their explanation of the Bible?

  a key factor is that the witnesses really believe that the bible is gods word and that what it contains is there for our instruction.

  "Indications as to the meaning of symbolic terms....are found in the rest of the Bible" They claim to let the Bible provide its own explanation.

  Then they go and tell the world the meaning of the very symbolic "faithfull and discreet slave", do they show where their unique interpretation gains support anywhere in the Bible ? NO.

  They are masters at doing this, I remember in the Rev Climax book they set out what sounded like a reasonable methodology for interpretation, and then proceeded to break the rules of what they had set out within two pages !

  They are taking the piss, the writing department must wet themselves when they do this, they know that if anyone is recruited using faulty logic like this they will never question any Bull***t they are fed, like the 7million brain dead already in the cult.

  I was six or seven when I did my first door on my own, 1956/7, offering mags, not really preaching, was it?

  I was baptised in 1962 at the age of12.

  I left in 2008,leaving family behind in the cult, only my wife left with me, but I did not know that was going to happen

  looking forward to the end

  there must be millions of witnesses fervently looking forward to the end--of "this system of things"--along with the mass slaughter of billions of innocent people.

  i must be one of many thousands almost equally looking forward to the end--of the watchtower society---without any killings--i hope.

  I am with Cedars, anything we can do to hasten the demise of the WT we should, 100%.

  I do not think that it will be that soon, their business scam may not produce as many $$$£££ etc as in the past, but cutting costs and unecessary operations will enable them to keep their actual profit margin much the same, turnover may fall a bit, but the margin is high enough on enough dollars to keep them going.

  There will come a tipping point though, by then they will have little room for maneuver, re-inveting themselves will not bring in the dollars quick enough.

  If we can hasten their arrival at the tipping point, then GOOD!

  Any bad press we can get them will make even the staunch rank and file less likely to contribute as much as they have in the past, especially as they find it harder to put bread on their own table.

  Is the IBSA's charitable status in the UK vulnerable?

  one thing that has occurred to me recently is how much money the society makes from being registered as a charity in certain countries.

  in the uk, the government contributes 28 pence for every pound that is donated (referred to as "gift aid"), effectively increasing the value of each contribution from 1 to 1.28. not surprisingly, the society in the uk are doing very well out of this arrangement, and last year according to the charity commission's website they made a turnover of 25.7 million, with profits of 7.8 million.

  i calculate that approximately 5 million of this must have been generated by gift aid.. the thing is, to my knowledge recent laws that have been passed by parliament stipulating that a charity must be in the "public benefit".

  More power to you Cedars ! What we have to cut through is the doubel-speak of the WT, as we read those words of theirs we know damn well that very little of what they are talking about is taken up by the public.

  Yes a few crappy magazines will be accepted by the gullible public,often to simply get the JW to move on, and then they go straight in the trash, where they belong, but apart from that, they do nothing for the public.

  I do not think they can point to any altruistic work they do that is seperate from their recruiting work, at least the Sally Army do a lot that does not directly relate to their evangelizing, the WT can point to nothing.

  They pay no tax on their activities, it is my belief that all religions should pay tax on property and profit, just their purely charitable works, works not dependant on being a member of that religion, being exempt.

  In other words, totally seperate the charities from the religions.

  The last I heard the Charities Comm. admitted that many charities were worthy of investigation, but they did not have the staff or the funds to do it !

  I think if enough of a stink is made in the press they will be forced to act.

  this morning i came across this thought provoking comment in a cnn news article:.

  harris zafar, national spokesperson of the ahmadiyya muslim community usa, does not mince words on the subject, stating in a huffington post opinion piece that "islam prescribes absolutely no punishment for apostasy.".

  Depends where you are, Pakistan was going to put to death a guy who had left islam for a christian religion just aweek or so ago,their blasphemy laws prescribe the death sentence.

  They were about to do what the WT would love to be allowed to do, but I think they have held off because of International opinion, but I wuld not be too confident that you will always get a benevolent judgement if you live in an Islamic state.
