I cannot live without chocolate either, must be the monkeyboy in me. It is a super-food, also a "super" food, and very healthful in so many ways.
It makes me happy ! (so do beer and wine, super foods both)

I do not agree with BOR's statment that: " if there is true freedom, people have the freedom to be fundamentalists and not be attacked".
I presume you BOR, are not talking of pysical attack, but intellectual? If so, your statement is arrant nonsense.
Thanks for posting LWT, I think it is a good read. We have dealt with BE's use of "Fake" and "deceive" on other threads, suffice to say he really should qualify exactly what he means, but he is a good self publicist, he wishes to sell his books, you cannot get stuff such as he writes to a wide audience without stirring up a bit of contoversy.
Thanks again for pointing us to his speech.

Do You Miss Even A Little Bit Your "Friends" From The "Truth"?
by minimus ini miss a few but honestly i could count them on one hand after being in the organization for almost 5 decades.
some jws are ok but most, i simply tolerated, due to being an elder..

wobble
No, I do not. Partly because, being "Inactive" I am free to go and see the ones I like at any time. I don't do that very often, I would not actually miss them if I never saw them again, I just go and see them because thay are likeable, and have been kind and hospitable to my wife and I in the past.
Mrs Wobble misses the social diary being full, she now has one close friend (never a JW) and some old friends from various places she worked at, that she has always kept in touch with, we go out with them sometimes, but often she has only her one friend to fill the time with when I am off playing Bowls (the Sir Francis Drake sort).
But we discussed this a while ago, and we both said we don't care if we never see any of them ever again, apart from some of the delightful children, we will not see them growing up.

I think it will be great when this stuff is available, of course the DumbDubs won't be able to decide for themselves that it is O.K to accept, they will have to ask the old farts club known as the GB.
Whatever the WT comes out with, it should make a thinking JW (oxymoron) realise that the blood doctrine is total hogwash, or his god is non-existent, one of the two, if not both.

Thoughts on my life now
by freshstart inthough there are still problems in my life, as with everyone's life, i see the world so much differently now.
i no longer feel threatened from "worldly" people, as though somehow they are out to destroy me or take advantage of me.
it's very mentally liberating to realize that those walls the organization so erroneously put up can be scaled and that there is true beauty waiting on the other side.

Dear freshstart, thank you for the thread and your thoughts, and the other posters , thank you too.
It is good to look at our life now, and see and appreciate how much better life out of, and away from the influence of, the Borg really is!
We do not do well if we waste our new freedom, but we do have something that it is invaluable , time to spare. O.K life can still be too busy and full if we let it but the quote I like on this matter is:
"What is this life, so full of care, if we do not have time to stop, and stare".
We are a unique lot, the ones who have escaped the cult, we have all been given a fresh start, wonderful !

Catching the Manipulation in Sundays Watchtower Article
by Butterflyleia85 ininspired by many on jwn board, my goal is to every sunday study the article and find the manipulative parts.
if you would like to join me that would be great!
we can then find them together and then find what the scriptures or insights truly means with research, our own understanding, or maybe how it should be interpreted to ones self.

Not wanting to discouage you Butterflyleia85, but Blondie does an excellent job in her "Comments you will not hear " series of deconstructing the study Watchtowers.
I think it never hurts though to point out the flagrant mind control techniques as we come across them in the WT's ramblings, sorry writings, so carry on.
I think we should actually start a competition thread where we offer a small prize to a poster who can spot a WT statement that is correct and can be backed up by scripture, much harder to do !

What is the stupidest comment you ever heard at a meeting?
by 3rdgen ina very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.
needless to say, he had everyone's attention.
he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.
-
wobble
Stupid comments abounded during the 58 years I was in, but just one sticks out in my mind because it spurred me to walk away after the very next meeting.
The Service Overseer was answering in the WT study and part of his comment included "we all here believe that Jesus started to rule in Heaven in 1914"
I thought to myself "We don't "all" believe that mateyboy, I don't for a start".
Not exactly the same kind of stupid, ignorant comment that we have had mentioned above, but enough to get me moving in the right direction- out of the door for good.

WHY IT IS WRONG FOR ELDERS, MINISTERIAL SERVANTS AND PIONEERS TO SOCIALIZE WITH THE WEAK ONES!
by AvocadoJake inthere is a sister in our hall who has made it clear why her "jehovah" does not like weak ones.
her husband the po, will refuse to work with those who are not getting ten hours or more a month.
the weak ones "are spiritually dangerous and will bring you down.

I was never considered one who was super "strong" in the religion, I was too much of a rebel. I too, like Simon Morley used to befriend and help along those who were like me to some degree,a bit of an outsider.
To be "strong" in their minds you need to be the most mind-controlled of people, any sign that you are capable of thinking for yourself, is, ironically, labelled as "weakness".
I often found that those who were labelled "weak" were ones with very strong moral values that they stuck to whatever, just one example, a sister they would have labelled as weak, loudly said to me at the back of the KH "I don't care what the Society comes out with, I know what the Bible says". She was strong, but to hide its own weakness, the cult would call her weak.
Tossers.
