Hi - I'm new here!
by Flicka ini have been lurking on this site for the past 2 months.
for the past few years i have been going to the meetings and doing fieldservice out of guilt.. my husband (twisty) told me regularly i only do it out of guilt but i denied it and said it i want to do these things because i love jehovah and it is the right thing to do, but how can it be the right thing if you don't feel welcome and it feels like everyone is judging you the moment you walk into the kingdom hall.. it has taken a few years and a lot of tears to open my eyes.. over the past few years twisty spoke to me about the various things he didn't agree with but it just went over my head.
a few months ago we were lying in bed and he brought up his concerns again, and i'm not sure what was different this time but i understood and agreed with the points he was making.

Active JW understands flaws in WTS doctrine but believes in the Bible
by flamegrilled inperhaps this is a common topic for newbies on the site, but i have browsed for a while and not seen this exactly answered.. as an active jw who understands the flaws in wts doctrine, but believes in the bible, how do i identify a form of worship that meets all the criterea:.
1) by this all will know you are my disciples if you have love among yourselves (john 13:35).
sure i know that not all jws do this, and that people from other religions or non-religious people do this also, but as an official doctrine jws will not kill one another in war, and in general there is a genuine effort to exercise "agape" love not widely found in the world at large.. 2) preach the good news.

The letter to the Hebrews, whoever wrote it, was probably written around the end of the first century. You may claim earlier, but I would wish to see proof, and anyway the later the better if you are going to claim some extensive organizational arrangements.
Even around 90CE the churches would have been little more than House Churches, what evidnece is there for more ? So, the "leaders" who are referred to would be Apostles if any were still alive, and those taking the lead in establishing the congregations that existed.
I am at present doubtful that to base ones life now on what was written 2000 years ago is a good idea in a literal sense, but if you are determined to do so, I can see little for you to dobut to join the smallest group of Chrisitans you can find who stick rigidly to the Gospel that Paul preached, as he hinmself said to the Galations:
"it doesn't matter if that person is one of us, or an angel from heaven, I have said it before and I will say it again, I hope God will punish anyone who preaches anything different from what you have already believed". Gal. 1 v8&9 C.E.V
Now, Paul wrote the above words around 55CE it is estimated, so the teahing at that time was the simple Gospel the first followers of Christ took to unbelievers, nothing more, so beware of groups you wish to join who add to that simple message i.e "Christ resurrected".

Difficulties understanding passage.
by s-c-3-1-3 ini am reading colossians 1:15-18, and understand it to mean that jehovah created jesus who then created all other things in the world, thus jesus crall things except for god who created him.
is this correct?
thanks in advance!.

The first thing the Bible did wrong was to Anthropomorphise the Supreme Being, if one were to exist, no description in human terms would suffice.

For me, spirituality is that which is metaphysical, at present at least. Science may well explain these things in the future, things like inspiration to produce art or music, the ability to predict, etc.
Already explaned to a degree, but there seems to be much that is not clear, certainly I do not include any beliefs in unprovable beings, God's or Devils etc as part of the kind of spirituality that makes for progress.

by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace!.

we've had many discussions, others and i, regarding this... with some stating concern because they believe i am the "only" one to use that name.

The WT, the Millerites and Orson Wells
by Aussie Oz init is well known of course that ct russell was a fan of william miller and the mans teachings.
indeed his colaboration with millerite nelson barbour cemented russells love of all that was millerism.. i recall some time ago a thread wherin it was mentioned that fred franz had a library stuffed full of millerite books and so on, and that he himself modeled his own style of address and writing after william miller himself.. with that sort of impact on the doctrines and teaching methods adopted by the society at that time, i am also wondering about orson wells book 1984.. could it be plausable that this book also has its place on the shelves of some locked away private library?
published in 1949, the wt leadership has had plenty of time to study the methods of the novel and try them out.

Good one JWd'ter ! Tim Minchen would approve of that connection ! Eric Blair(George Orwell) was a great writer, with an informed take on the affairs of his time, his articles on a number of subjects are free on-line.

If my memory serves, dear Shelby, and it is not reliable nowadays, I believe you have a thread or a post somewhere that explains fully why the name is as you say.
Could you post a link please ? or if you have time post an explanation on here, for new members especially.
Bible names have always interested me , but this is more important than just surface meanings.
The article in your link claims that Mary's native tongue was Hebrew ? I thought that Mary, and your Lord, were speakers of Aramaic as a first languge ?and then more likely Greek as a second, and Hebrew third ??
I am not being rude here, but I am interested, when your Lord speaks to you, do you hear the actual voice, if so, what accent has the voice, or perhaps it is not as simple as that ?

Fallen humans are the MEDIATOR between God and man - WBT$ reaffirms
by Fernando insome have been wondering if the watchtower might reinstate jesus after disfellowshipping him as the one mediator between god and man.. apparently not.. "future light" from march 2012 reaffirms that jesus has been indefinitely replaced by a ruling religious clergy class of mediators.. "those in the covenant are few, a mere 144,000. through them, millions from all nations will be blessed with everlasting life in an earthly paradise.
" (w2012 mar 01 p17, http://download.jw.org/files/media_magazines/wp_e_20120301.pdf).. "the anointed" in the nt/nc scriptures is always "ho kristos" or "the christ" - who the wbt$ has openly replaced (for several decades now) with a small group of fallen humans (11,824 false christs in 2011) who the blind sanhedrin (gb) lyingly claim to represent.. .
(thanks to "therevealer" for posting the above watchtower mar 2012 quote two days ago)..
