How Do You Deal With Elders?

if an elder or elders demanded that they wanted to talk to you, what would you do?.

if the elders began "questioning" you, how would you deal with them?.

Most of you guys seem to be in the lucky position of being able to be open and honest about your position,a number of us on JWD are forced to be "cautious as serpents" due to not wanting to be DA'd or DF'd as we have most of our close family still in.I received the "loving" shepherding call last week,during which I was asked the loyalty questions and others that would have got me slung out pronto had I not answered in a dishonest way. This really pains me as I have always hated hypocrasy and lying,and yet am forced to resort to both.

I am hoping later to at least get some truth over to some of my family,and need to be able to speak to them,so have pity on us poor cult victims!

Coptic John 1:1 makes it into the Watchtower.

wt november 1st has a two page article on how the early sahidic coptic version of the new testament translated god with an indefinite article in john 1:1 and argues this supports the new world translation's rendering "and the word was a god".

online witness apologists have been using this piece of evidence in support of the nwt for a few years now.

in particular solomon landers promoted the coptic version of john 1:1 in discussions with evangelicals and other who oppose witness theology.

I did some online research into the Coptic version of John 1v1 and pretty soon came accross a number of scholars who shewed that this in no way justified a NWT english translation using the indefinite article. So if the WT starts getting their info. on the cheap via apologists with no expertise it will return to bite them in the bum!

the seventy year thing

i hate to keep bringing it up but i would to give the jws something to think about.

if the isrealites had done as god had told them, to serve babylon voluntairly as they had done in the beginning, then when would the seventy years of so called total devastation have began.

god said that only if they did not serve babylon that they would be destroyed.

Real Truth=Antichrist

kind of confused about this....but according to info that wt puts out about "apostates", doesn't that make those who know the real truth, the "truth about the truth" the anti-christ?.

now, i know some are athiests, some are still on a search, some have gone over to other religions,and some just believe in jesus without following any doctrines of a religious group.

what i am asking is, will all churches as well as wt consider anyone who does not belong to a religious institution as being "the antichrist"?

With no evidence to the contrary view, I take the name "Anti-Christ" literally as those who reject the reality or teachings of Christ,so an atheist who accepts that the teachings attributed to Christ ,i,e love your fellowman etc. are good is not the anti-christ,those that twist his plain teaching like the WTS plainly are !

Are Christadelphians the Faithful Discreet Slave?

prior to the "passing inspection" by christ , the international bible students:had no prohibition against birthdayshad no prohibitions against holidays such as christmasbelieved that all true christians went to heavenhad no prohibition to participating in governmenthad no prohibition against votinghad no prohibition against joining the military.

christadelphians had, at least for half a century before the watchtower, prohibited birthdays, "pagan holidays", government involvement, voting, participating in war and joining the military.

they also taught that true christians would not go to heaven but will inhabit a paradise on earth.. rutherford eventually instituted all these teachings.

I have to agree with Caliber,according to WT teaching today the Christadelphians qualified perfectly in 1919. what is notable is that they havn't had to have lots of Noo Lite,their statement of belief was written in the late 1800's and has remained unchanged to my knowledge,evident demonstration that they are guided by Holy spirit (?)

The minor things that they disagree with WT on are hardly major doctrine.

The Witchtower in 1919 was literally that,teaching pyramidology,that Russell was the FDS and loads of stuff that if you as a witless professed to beleive today,you would be dis-fellowshipped for!!

The words logic, common sense, truth and many other virtues and Watchtower Teaching do not belong in the same sentence.

p,s as 1914 and 1919 are twaddle anyway,as is the cocept of an FDS "class" perhaps the Christadelphians may be used and approved in the future ??

I like the Contempory English Version,published here in the U.K by Harper Collins,ISBN0 00 220197 6 (hardback)

It is very readable and very accurate,although no translation is perfect.

many know, i am not a christian and see all religion as myths born from other myths and piled on with folklore.

at the same time, i love archeology and like many others, enjoyed the indiana jones movies and so on.

so i wonder, if you were like me or someone with the same similar disbelieve in christianity.

I remember a friend of mine in the early seventies showing me a Q from R's which must have come from the early sixties,he pulled it out of a bound volume,the question was much the same,how will it all work,food chains etc,the answer was basically "DON'T ASK AWKWARD QUESTIONS" !!!

This is a stance the WT maintains to this day.

thurs @ 4 p,m bst (british summer time) the p.o ,or should i say now de-moted co-ordinator(i wonder if he knows?

) and a mincer are coming to encourage me.this is the official heavy visit i reckon.

i havn't been to a meeting since about april this year and have been inactive since a year before that.. i do not want to be d'f'd or to disassociate as i have all my family still in,my dear old mum(nearly ninety,in da troof sixty years) right down to great nephews and nieces etc.

Many many thanks to you all for your good advice and your loving concern.I really feel that I want this meeting to go ahead just to get it out of the way,both these guys have loads of free time and I work mainly from home,so avoiding them is not really workable for long.I did manage it for six months or so after becoming inactive but was nailed down in the end,I was still going to meetings then so got off light with just "encouragement". With my history of being in and prominent for fifty-eight years they have to be seen to have tried.

So I will play the depression card,although I feel happier now than ever in my life! This is in no small way thanks to all on this forum,the love and support is vital for people like me,so JWD must continue!!!
