Governing Body... meet WORLD... world... meet Governing Body! The JW Survey website has been launched!!
by cedars inwell, things have moved very quickly with the survey, and it now has it's very own website at www.jwsurvey.org!!.
if you are new to this forum and would like to have your say on what the governing body is teaching and practicing, then please visit this new site and register your views.. for those of you that have followed the development of the survey over the past month or so, feel free to visit and take a look around.. the website gives those who participate in the annual survey the opportunity to review the results of the survey at the same time as they register their responses.
that way they can get a feel for how the rest of the world is voting once they have submitted their own answers.. you can also check out the progress of the survey by logging on from time to time (anonymously, of course) and checking out the latest results.. there will also be a number of "mini surveys" run regularly, which i feel represent a completely unique experience for those who enjoy visiting jw-related forums.

Victoria, Australia: Report on Oct. 11th hearing involving Steven Unthank
by AndersonsInfo invictoria, australia: report on oct. 11th hearing involving steven unthank.
(this report is from an anonymous xjw who attended the hearing.
i had no plans to turn up to the court hearing as an observer, as in my experience, it can take several hearings and a number of months before any court case gets rolling.

I think we need to wait until the case is over before anything is pushed toward the media. The attention span of the media is as short as that of the public they serve, one bite of the cherry is all we will get.
The legal profession here in the U.K has a fascination with arcane rulings and strange cases from all around the world, we should at least be able to get a small article or two in some of their more light hearted publications, which may do some good.
Mainstream media too, loves to have a wacky story to tell, so maybe by majoring on the more bizarre aspects of this case we can raise some interest, at least that will have the effect of showing the cult for what it is, bat-shit crazy.
But timing is of the essence.

WT Flip-Flops on JesusÂ’ InspectionÂ… Was it in 1918 or 1919?... Did the WT PASS or FAIL?
by Alfred inthis is utterly ridiculous.... .
the more i research this particular subject, the more flip-flops i uncover.
it seems the fds cant even make up their minds regarding what happened in 1918 (or should i say 1919?).

They have hinted, I believe, that Rutherford and gang being banged up was because they were not fully approved by Jesus , but they cleaned up their act in some way just after release so Jesus thought "these guys are the dog's bollocks, I'll use them, as opposed to the Christadelphians who right now fit the bill far better".
Have I got that right ?
Thanks to all for the thread, maybe someone who has more ability than me could pull it all together in a little article that we could print off and give to JW's, no need for interpretation by ourselves, just the quotes really.
And then ask them to explain the doctrine from the beginning, i.e from the scripture which mentions an inspection, how "coming to the Temple" can without doubt mean what they say, why that event should be placed in 1918 or 1919 etc etc.
This is in fact their "foundation" doctrine, if they cannot prove it beyond doubt, then ALL the teachings and directives of the WT have no foundation and no meaning or power.

Much Belated "Thank You" to Hillary_Step and Gregor
by AK - Jeff ini was among those christians who fought against your 'tirades' against us - sometimes in rather fierce battles behind the scenes, sometimes on public threads here.. but, about two or three years ago - after hillary had already departed the forum, and years after my discussions with gregor - it hit me just how right the two of you were.
perhaps hillary will never see this - maybe gregor has also left the forum for the most part.
i don't come here often, but when i do i find myself on the side of the battle they occupied then.

I second your thanks to those estimable gentlemen, Hill. had left just before I joined, and Gregor has not posted for a good while, at least, not on a regular basis.
At a certain point in my journey to where I am today , which is best described by my calling myself a Rational-Humanist I guess, I realised that a lot of what had been spinning round in my head had been dealt with on here, so I went back and read some of the brilliant stuff posted by both those guys and others.
It was interesting to see the whole forum mature with their input, the clear concise and irrefutable way they put down how it really is was wonderful to read. Every post was an epiphany for me, and I guess you helped jeff, even if you were on the other side at the beginning , but you helped, and others, by voicing what many believe, and these guys were able to show where we were so so wrong.
The Archive of old posts on here is really a treasure trove, look at how many get revived and read anew , Truth does not change, so they are ever relevant.
If you and I manage to post a bit of wisdom from time to time, it is only because we are standing on the shoulders of giants.

A huge vote of thanks to Steven Unthank, what a great job he has done getting this as far as it has got.
I don't think, with the fact noted above about the Criminal record, that the WT can in any way be said to get away with just a slap on the wrist , even if they are not fined or whaever ,it is still a slap on the wrist and a serious Chinese Burn !

JWs and Jesus
by lilbluekitty inas many of you already know, i was raised in the "truth", 3rd generation on my mother's side, 5th or something on my dad's side so i've been a jw for a long time, not so much now.. anyway, those of you who either spent a long time in the religion or who actually came from a regular christian religion first or became one later, did any of you notice how jws feel about jesus?
though they're supposed to be "true" christians, they don't talk about christ much or don't talk about his sacrifice much.
i know jws (and i) don't believe in the trinity but what's wrong with being more thankful to him for what he did for us?

JW's have relegated Jesus to a very lowly position, way below that of the Governing Body who can tell us what Jesus "evidently" was meaning to say, but lacked the skills and insight the GB have.
Of course it is not only right to worship the GB, it is demanded.

When Did You Stop Saying Amen
by BroMac infor prayers from the platform.. i've "said my own" for a few years now if i find i cant agree with what the brother is praying about.
i'm constantly amazed by the same old repetitive ramblings and just nonsense that some brothers feel is an acceptable way to pray for a congregation.. once i've finished saying my own i'll listen again to what they are going on about, and round and round they go.
the worse ones are those who can hardly speak english and i cant understand a word thats said apart from the "...feffull slive... bless bruders sis not here..." blah blah.. and everyone has gone through the public talk prayer.

I can't remember exactly when I stopped , it was for sure before I actually left for good, 'coz I was sure they were not praying with knowledge of truth.
The thing that amazed me was the number of them that followed a script of what they had heard others say, now remember, they were copying a spiritual retard, could they not see this ? I think it sprang from a fear that they would be criticised if they said anything innovative.
The worst ones were when the guy went over the programme again "Fank yoo Jehoober for Bro Retards talk on why oral sex is not approved by you, and Sister Dementeds demonstration of how to alienate the public ......"
As if Big J hadn't been listening to the "spiritual food" he is supposed to have provided.
I always prayed from the heart as if talking to a god who was real, he was to me then, these men from the spiritual desert did not really believe god was listening, the one and only thing they were actually right about.

Why is there something rather than nothing?
by mankkeli ini suppose both theists and atheists can answer this question, although if theists do, maybe they could explain why it is they believe god made creation and they are free to quote scripture if they choose.
for my own answer i believe he made it because he loved it and therefore made it exist, because it was therefore good (genesis 1:31 and god saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.
i'm especially interested though in the answer from the perspective without faith.

I don't know of any rational person who now believes that the Universe we live in has always existed, unless you mean that the energy that gave rise to the matter that the universe contains has always existed, if you mean that, then why not ?
Why does energy have to have a "beginning" ?
Already we are seeing the need to define our terms and refine our questions if we are going to have a meaningful discussion.
(What do we mean by beginning, by time, etc etc)
The philosophers of 150 years ago discussed how God was being pushed further and further back as science gained more knowledge.
Because at present we cannot explain something, that does not mean we have to insert "god" in there, what has been termed the "god of the gaps"
We are pretty sure we know most of what went on after the first Plank second of the universe's existence, it is what went on "before" that which is still a puzzle.
Many theories abound, but the one that has no possibility of being correct, IMHO, is that the god of the bible had anything to do with it.
Why does the Universe exist ? again, you would be hard pressed to even begin to convince me that a loving god would bring this Universe in to existence.

Christians Please Explain
by AK - Jeff insince leaving all organized religion, all superstition, all acceptance of deity, i have a terrible time truly understanding 'religious' thought.. i really do.. how is it possible for thinking people to just accept, without proof, all they accept?
this morning i overheard a conversation between two christians in a coffee shop.
they say to me 'dad, what's wrong with just being a nice, good person?

Good thread, it is easy to see where logic flies out of the window when peoples emotional attachment to a belief system is challenged. It has been good to read the back and forth on this thread, all done in afairly respectful way.
I particularly like and agree with Sizemiks comments on how retarding religious views are on human progress, even scientists who believe are probably affected by the "we cannot know, only God can" attitude to certain questions, and most of humankind accepts the status quo far too much by thinking it is "God's will" or god will sort it in the future.
A world without irrational beliefs affecting policy and action would be a much better place.
