My only own regret when I left

my parents are still witnesses, i read coc, isocf and conceptoc, then decided not to attend meetings.. i told them everything i knew about what was written and this pushed them away from me and further into the "truth", we still talk like a normal family but when a topic merges that i speak about jw's i get shunned, they don't comment.

i didn't understand why they continued to believe after i mentioned gb voting system, un, and others, i also mentioned about ray franz and what the bible really says, dad asked me why not i just join his (ray's) religion since i know so much.. i knew about hassans books but didn't see them necessary at the time, but i didn't understand why they are acting this way.

i just finished releasing the bonds, now i understand why they acted the way they did and why they didn't listen, my only regret was not reading this and combating cult mind control earlier.. so we were all brought up in the truth, all my family members are in the truth, during the years they were taught not to think anything negative about the religion - that's how you loose part of your critical thinking skills (remenber how the brothers kept remind of how happy we all are.).

Thanks Joey, we keep telling newbies on here to read both of Steve Hassan's books before acting, and as you painfully found out, it is good advice.

We all at first want to blow all of their beliefs out of the water with our new found big guns, but that hardly ever works.

Just living a good happy life yourself, and loving your family unconditionally is the way to go, eventually they may wake up.

An old saying puts it well "When the student is ready, the Teacher arrives" , you are ready to teach them when they are ready to learn.

How important is or will be the WWC case? too good to be true?

how important is it now and how important will it be?.

i think of some of the cases in history that the wt has fought.... the 40s and 50s were spent defending the right to preach.

ok pretty important gains for everyone in freedom of speech etc.

The case is the most interesting one as far as potential goes that has ever happened,

The problem is that the WT will do their very best to bury this in Victoria, and may well succeed to a great degree, what we need to do is hang fire until the case proper has been dealt with, and then we need to get as much media attention as possible to bring to attention the WT's heartless attitude which consists of covering up what has happened and not bothering to protect children and the vulnerable subsequently.

I have lived in the same house since the dinosaurs roamed the earth, so the local dubs know where I live and most do not call, but as I am a nosey bugger and I work at home from a room overlooking the lane , I see how often they call around here, and it has dropped off dramatically in the last three years.

it appears that obves started a ton of threads 9 years ago here on jwd/jwn.

all of them [that i have seen] filled with prophetic utterances regarding determining the end.

over those years, all the dates have failed.

I would like to make a study of such an individual if I were Freud or Jung, a fascinating case, and difficult to label with any of the conventinal dignostic labels I would guess.

I think both those estimable gentlemen might quite well come up with the same label : "Pain in the Arse"

What will you be having for Xmas dinner?

im getting rather excited!

its only 8 weeks away!

this year, for the 1st time in 6 years, we are having a proper xmas.

WE always had a bloody good meal and a piss up with as many of the family as possible coming to our place even when we were in.

The difference now is we only have family who are no longer in, or have never been in, and we now have Turkey if we want, neither of us rate it much actually, but it makes for another meat on the plate, and is O.K cold with pickles at a later time.

The Christmases since we left have been special, we have got to know our non-witness family so much better, long talks and lots of laughter !

We always did drink a lot on Chrissy Day, but the last few since we left have been historic !!

I am looking forward to it this year again, I do hope most of the Irish can make it over here, they make me look like a modest drinker ! and they are so damn funny ! wonderful conversationalists, full of Blarney !

Kingdumb maladies stuck in your head...

i had a dream last night that i went to a meeting.

the speaker announced we were going to sing the "we're jehovah's witnesses" song, to which i said an audible "dear god" which got a bunch of dirty looks from other people sitting by me.

so now i'm awake, sipping my coffee, and i have "we're jehovah's witnesses" stuck in my head.

Its called an "earworm" when asong gets stuck in your head, if you allow it to go on too long it burrows in to your brain until it drops out of the other side !

I don't get the god-awful Kingdumb Maladies any more, but it still happens with annoying adverisiing jingles and such, of course, that is what that industry wants.

Is the WT a "spiritual paradise"?

why is it near impossible to find a person in this "spiritual paradise" that has the "good news according to paul" in their hearts and on their lips?.

Thanks for that link ,fokyc, Ozziepost was a perceptive poster.

It is quite a laugh really, my Dubbie family go on about the importance of the preaching work, but how can it be important when it does not contain the Good News as found in scripture ? Working to promote an American publishing company is not important work.

As for the whole religion, it is a totally dry desert spiritually, as arid as can be, I felt this more and more as I gradually became convinced that I had to leave, every meeting I attended I tried to inject a bit of spirituality in to, if I commented, but without that it was bereft of anything that you could call spiritual.

Watchtower World, a land for the totally deluded spiritually dead.

cult novelist writes about...........cults !

the novelist and essayist haruki murakami wrote quite a bit, based on interviews he did with survivors and cult members, about the aum sect, who released deadly sarin nerve-gas on the tokyo subway in 1995. his interviews and his thoughts appeared in english in the book "underground".. he promised to return to the matter of cults in his fiction, which he has done in his latest work, iq84.. in it appear two cults, one is "aum like", with a very sinister leader, the other is a christian sect whose pamphleteering members refuse life-saving surgery and is called "the society of witnesses", i wonder who inspired the latter one ?.

Thanks Coffee, thats where I culled it from, the good old Grauniad, and as said above, this is another piece of publicity that the WT will not like, but can do sweet FA about ! Its fiction !

The sad thing is that it won't reach any JW's I should think, not their kind of literature, and they would dismiss it in their minds, but it will re-inforce other readers views that Dubs are a dangerous cult, so may do abit of good.

WT Flip-Flops on Jesus Inspection Was it in 1918 or 1919?... Did the WT PASS or FAIL?

the more i research this particular subject, the more flip-flops i uncover.

it seems the fds cant even make up their minds regarding what happened in 1918 (or should i say 1919?).

Oh boy, Think About It, if only we could get JW's, especially our own families, to Think about it !

I sent my nephew (Uber-dub Elder, but nice guy) a letter with all the kind of thoughts and references on this thread ages ago, and asked him to think about it, I mentioned to his mother (Nazi-Uber-dub) that he had been a long time replying, and she said "I don't think you will get a reply".

Sad, but they have sold their soul and their mind to the WT . Get a JW to think ? Nah. Their critical thinking skills are safely locked in Brooklyn.
