yeah so the memorial is getting closer.. and even though my mum knows i am not attending the meetings, she keeps staying i should at least attend the memorial.... coz it's like special.. no idea how to get myself out of it.

I do understand how all this makes my mum feel which is why I am in a predicament, but it starts out with attending the memorials... then they coerce you to attend the conventions and assemblies... and then it's just a matter of time before you're badgered into attending everything again

Even if they know you don't attend any meetings you still HAVE to attend this one... coz it's SO special. And everyone gets dressed in their finest party wear. The congregation back in Kuwait would organise snacks and sometimes even food for like a small buffet.
They really do feel left out at not having any 'festivals' to celebrate right? Gosh, I have no idea how to squirm out of this one

she was very emotionally abusive throughout my childhood (and can still be).
i guess she had her reasons although it doesn't excuse the behaviour.. anyway i tried to be as diplomatic as possible.

Those are some very good suggestions and I feel a lot better knowing that things could improve, if I make sure to play the right cards. It's definitely going to be a marathon and I was impressed with mum actually taking my letter seriously and not throwing a tantrum.
You're right though, it's very tricky while she nurses hopes that I will 'return to the flock' and probably bring hubby in tow. I do wish I could just let go and enjoy the ride as it's a great time of my life but it's darkened with all this stress and conflict. I can't wait to be back in the UK. I guess it's harder since fiance and I are apart and that makes the moral support difficult to access.

I also like the way my mum talked about attending the meetings so I could CHOOSE a nice jw man. As if you CHOOSE who you fall in love with.

Yes I am very happy on one level, but sad too. I know I can't please everyone and I certainly can't please my mum all the time. I'm sure no matter what I do, it will never be good enough from her viewpoint.
I hope she will come around to the reality of it all though.

first of all even if i'm not a jw i believe in jehovah much more than myself.
when i was 6 my aunt(she is a jw) has started to thought me about jehovah.
at the beginning the religions things wasn't so impotante for me couse i was so young but as i grew i've started to understand the impotance of jehovah in my life.

i'm not but i know some jws that have drifted but when things like 9/11 catastrophes occur, they're right back at the kingdom hall.. do you ever worry that the great tribulation might occur and you will die?.
Actually the JW concept of Armaggeddon isn't really scary at all. Unlike other religions, there is no HELL.
So what happens when you die? Eternal torture? Nope. Nothing. The dead are conscious of nothing at all. Why would I fear that? Even if everyone else was heartily frolicking in paradise, I wouldn't miss it because... well... I am non-existent.
Yeah Armaggeddon might be scary but if it really got bad, I could always put a bullet to my brain and quickly and humanely end it all. I would have blissful nothingness to look forward to!!
At least other religions have some scary shit that could make unbelievers quake in their pants.....

At one point she asked, have you explained to him about your JW beliefs? I said yes I have (and I actually have, but more along the lines of - here's what this cult is like....) and I was blown away by her next statement ..... And is he not interested in becoming a JW?
I guess even though marrying 'outside' of the lord is a big no no, it's somehow OK if the person can be converted right?!?
I'm just flabbergasted at her thinking he is potential 'convert' material. I hope she never tries preaching to him when he finally meets her. It didn't work on my dad, and I don't think my hubby-to-be will be very polite in sharing what he thinks about her cult LOL
