McVeigh vs Death Penalty

i am a policitcal conservative, at least a fiscal conservative and sociel moderate.

i support the death penalty, but i agree that our judicial system needs to overhaul how wwe treat criminals to achieve better rehabilitation results.

and of course, withhold the death penalty in cases where there could be doubt.. in mcveigh's case, i believe that he deserves the death penalty.

Fascinating to read all the varius views this subject brought out. I wonder how many feel now since 9-11 attacks. In particular, prior to 9-11, Geraldo Rivera a big anti-gun and anti-death penalty advocate. Yet after he arrived in Afghanistan, he reported carrying a gun, and his comments about Bin laden were that he should be killed rather than captured. It seems that hard reality changed Geraldo's opinion rather rapidly.

Well it'd be pretty hard to capture him. I think the guys dead already, and that OBL sightings are going to end up like Elvis sightings. But I think it would have been better to capture him. It's the same with the Nazis after WWII...they really wanted to capture those guys and put them on trial to show the world their evil. They felt it very important that they be tried. I think it'd be good if OBL got the same: a fair trial for the world to see.

As for him being put to death. I dont really care. It's not going to bring back all those people, though he probably deserves the worst death imaginable.

I'm against the death penalty on principal. Once you start making exceptions for one guy it leaves the door open for more exceptions. I dont believe OBL should be put to death...and I dont believe McVeigh should have been either. 3 reasons why I dont think McVeigh should have and that I can't remember seeing here in this thread are: 1)For the benefit of his father, 2) their is a question as to whether he was part of a greater conspiracy, I believe? 3) I just think it might have been better, rather kill the dude and have him think himself as some kinda martyr, for him to spend the rest of his life in jail with the possibility that he eventually might regret what he did and show some remorse for it...maybe? For some victims that might be more of a consolation than his death was? None of these 3 reasons can I see being applied to OBL however...but I still wouldn't put him to death. Though if I was in the combat field I might be tempted to pop him one, rather than take him back alive to HQ...

we know very well that human judicial systems are flawed.. we know even better that our lives may pass away before these flawed judicial systems are replaced by one perfect judicial system established by god under christ.. living under the auspices of a flawed judicial system is difficult because it is like a "teeter totter" or like a scale that rarely is perfectly balanced.

it goes one direction or another.

the marble statue of a blindfolded lady holding a balanced scale of justice in her hand is the intended result of justice, not the result in real life.. in the case of protecting the rights of those who are victimized by child abusers, while also protecting the rights of those falsely accused of child molestation, no perfect balance is humanly possible on this side of armageddon.. therefore, proplog2, what shall it be?.

Those who believe I'm one of those people who pray for criminals on death row or believe in early releases for "repentant" child rapists should know a few things about me in this regard. First off, those who commit terrible crimes should be executed and their cremated ashes flushed down the prison toilet

I believe some molesters can be rehabilitated too BTW...

I have absolutely no mercy for them and I frankly I don't pray for their souls.

Some I do have a certain amount of mercy for...some where abused themselves, are mentally handicapped, or have other serious problems. Others are just sick predators. The ones that run child porn sites are a prime example of that kind of evil. I have no sympathy for that kind of molester.

I believe that "innocent until proven guilty" should remain at all costs, AT ALL COSTS, because of the human atrocities in countries that believe we are guilty until provent innocent.

Thank god for that derrick!
