one of the wisest and underrated lines from the NT...
some of my favorites are:.
"man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: as one dies, so dies the other.
all have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal.

at this time of easter christians celebrate the foundation of their faith, the resurrection of jesus christ.
without the resurrection, the rest of the christian faith is in vain, with it, the whole plan of god is fulfilled and validated.
in other words, if the resurrection occurred it proves the existence of god and his plan for salvation.. with that in mind, i offer the proof that the resurrection is a historical fact that be relied upon:.
With all of this evidence, there is ample reason to believe that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a true historical event which validates the Christian religion and for that matter, the Bible as a whole.

down here in australia legislation is about to be past approving the use of embryos from the ivf program for stem cell research.. stem cell research provides great hope for cures to such things as parkison disease, diabetes, paralysis.
thats sounds great huh...well, not to everyone it seems.. as a sign that our society really aint as advanced as we would like to think; we still have a large lobby of religious idiots & right to lifers screaming murder.
these idiots would actually have us think that using a bunch of cells for research to help improve the quality of life of some people with pretty horrible diseases and injuries is actually murder.

As if a bunch of cells can be equated to human life...really
The logic of these people really shows through when you realize that this Stem cell research is going to be done with embryos that would have otherwise been flushed down the toilet anyway...completely unused. As if that aint """"'murder'""", as they would like to call it.
However, we still do have a rather spineless, conservative Prime minister with a certain religious bent. Although approving the use of stem cells. He's placed 3 conditions on this stem cell research in an attempt to reconcile common sense with conservative religious idiot opinion.
- a ban on cloning and use of embryos developed for the solely for research
- parental consent
- a ban on the use of embryos created after yesterday
I disagree with number 1. I really see no problem with creating embryos for the sole use of research. They are just a bunch of DNA and cells afterall. Number 2 is maybe understandable...maybe. But 3 is the real kicker. Before yesterday certain embryos could be used in research to help save someones life...but after yesterday, we'll just be flushing the embryo down the toilet again. Hell...I know who needs flushing, and it aint no embryo.
i've been studying with the jw's for about a year now.
i know that by nature (or nurture!
) i have an addictive personality so i have tried to be real careful that i'm doing the right thing by getting involved with them.
I do think that it's a little wierd that the congregation is mostly people that are at least 30 years older than me!
take a hint
this has got me wondering....... in australia there is a national christian bookstore that stocks coc, isocf.
right now the wait for those 2 books is currently 12-14 weeks (there's a pre-order list so first in gets first books of the next order).
this bookstore orders books by the pallet regularly.. i'm starting to think that jw's are ordering these books cos the wait is sssoooo long.. any comments?.
Prisca
Interesting point, AK.Thats about right!
Are you referring to Koorong? I ordered another copy of Christian Freedom in January, and it came in last week. A good 2 month wait.
Thats how long it took for me to get GTR direct from commentary press. Surface mail takes about that long...but its cheaper. Try Air mail...its much better if you need things pronto.
i'm pretty new here (five minutes old!
) and i'm curious: how many have left the organization and, in time, become athiests.
i was raised in the organization, so growing up, my thinking was -- of course -- stifled.
i'm with Satan on this one...
now i understand completely that most in this forum are 100% against jws and the watchtower.
what i don't understand is the disrespect that has been shown for such a sacred occasion that is the birthday of tua pek kong.
whether you agree with jws or not, the fact is that birthday of tua pek kong has a lot of meaning for poh hock seah's.
LOL
good one
the account of adam and eve as a literal event is so full of logical contradictions that it is mind-boggling.
it only takes a minimum of scrutiny to discover that fact, too.. there is something god did not want adam and eve to know.
he didnt want them to know the difference between good and evil.

OK, point taken. But you always gotta wonder when christains start throwing verses like that one at yah. Had it happen to me before, and all of them meant it.
Seriously, i can usually understand what your saying...but...wow...those posts are spaced. Too much red wine maybe???
anyway... enjoy your easter i guess.

"this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes." (Matt. 13:15)
no, it just didn't make any sense. Mainly because i think your fundamental premise is wrong. That being that you seem to be saying that Adam and Eve were doomed to eat from the tree that God told them not to. As if they had no freedom to choose not to eat...as if they were created without freedom.
you threw too many terms around like good, and evil ,and freedom, and love without any real definition of what they mean. That made it confusing to me too. They are big words that probably need a little more defining.
And you drew a real long bow when you tried to tell us God didn't punish adam and eve.
As far as me being calloused...guess that would make me a bible basher huh! And we all know dem kinda people who dont believe cannot possibly be good people. Of course I know thats baloney!
seriously, i wouldn't have written anything in reply like i did above, because usually the stuff you write makes sense...is sort of logical. Even though I feel you make alot of assumptions in your arguments you still make logical sense....but dude, this above stuff really spaced me out. After I read it i didn't know up from down, felt like i just read one of biblemans posts.
