I'm new too!
by Annointeds Daughter ini'm new to the forum.
i've been lurking for some time, since i was "disconnected" by my husband, "tooktheredpill".
i'm a 3rd generation witness, and still inside of the borg, because all my family is inside.

I am so profoundly happy for you, for you both. Too often the WT destroys families because one mate learns the truth and the other closes them off. That is what happened to me and to many, many others. You have helped restore my faith in marriage and in humanity. May I offer my warmest welcome to you.

I would prefer my children to die than to have them Df'd
by lilyflor ini was still in the "troof" a couple of years ago when my mom said that to my face, in front of my husband no less.. he was a jw as well, he couldn't believe it.
my reply was "well i will give my life to save my children and if god sees fit to punish me for that - that's his choice".

Reminds me of an interview of a hardcore muslem I saw once. Both his sons had killed themselves as suicide bombers. He said: "I only regret I had only two sons to martyr themselves!" Notice he was still alive to be interviewed. Apparently the thought that he could give up his own life the same way his young brainwashed kids had didn't cross his mind. Similarly, your mother didn't say "I'd rather die than have my children disfellowshipped." Profoundly sad. I'm truly sorry.

The Rapidly Emerging "NEW BREED" of Jehovah's Witnesses
by kool aid man06 inthe "ever-changing doctrine" of the watchtower org.
is now creating an "incubator of doubts" that seems to be "hatching" this so-called "new breed" of witnesses.
watchtower publications written with purposeful ambiguous articles seems to be allowing many witnesses to become extremely liberal in their way of thinking.the watchtower org's view, as of late, in making more things a conscience matter, blood issues, voting, alternative service, organ transplants, attending weddings and funerals in churches, celebrating holidays, etc.

I agree. I was once an MS, now rarely make even one Sunday meeting a month, and only do that in order to keep my friends that are still in. I haven't been in service in over three years, yet I still have the same friends I had when I was giving public talks, some of them MS's and Elders. Many of them miss more than half of the meetings also, have no problem coming over to my house for a party on a meeting night. None ask me why I don't go. None ever talk about "spiritual things". I believe many of them no longer believe either, yet stay to keep their social group, as I do. Studying the Revelation book this last time, complete with it's ten pages of printed out "new light" from the last time it was studied about four years ago, was met with universal groans from everyone I know. None believe this latest interpretation is finally accurate. I know many winesses with young children, and all are encouraging them to pursue college. The Watchtower is losing it's stranglehold on the younger generation, say those under 45-50. Thank god.

STOP victimizing individual posters!
by hamsterbait inmy blood is boiling.. jcanon has as much right to post here and express his opinions as anybody else.. if you don't like his posts then don't bother commenting.. if you find his posts boring than don't bother commenting.. if you don't agree with him, then say why with evidence.. if you want to back him up then say why with evidence.. this whole "who hates **** or finds **** crap is really just descending to the level of the kindergarten playground.. everybody here has the right to be heard listened to or ignored - but not put under a spotlight of disdain and disapproval from other posters.. if i had been mocked or put down when i first came here, i would never have come back.. jc lives on this earth just like all of us.
if he destroys his credibility or repels you that is his own doing.
just don't recruit supporters of your own camp against him.. be fair to everybody, and they will be fair to you.. this was in response to the thread "who else finds jcanon's posts boring?.

Agreed. That thread was uncalled for and in poor taste.

Are active JW's seeing the light?
by boyzone ini ask this because i had a strange experience this week.
for a brief bit of background knowledge i'm being shunned like most on here, but i see witnesses every day in my place of work and at the school gate, there's no avoiding them, and like many of you, i've found it really hard to get over the hurt and heartache this has caused.. yesterday my mum (an active witness) went into hospital to have a tumor removed (successfully) as i'm the only daughter nearby to help, the other witnesses were asking the elders what they were supposed to do if they wanted to visit my mum and i was at her bedside, should they talk to me or turn round and go out again.. one elder said to do that would be utterly ridiculous, of course i should be spoken to.
he was very annoyed even at the suggestion.

I knew two different elders that proffessed similar opinions on disfellowshipping. Both are now disfellowshipped for apostasy (not for this issue specifically).

Who's your favorite Devil?
by Twitch ink, just for fun,.... i was watching the movie prophecy the other day and viggo mortenson's portrayal of lucifer was rather good imo.
i thought of another movie i saw, constantine where peter stormare played the same part, somewhat differently of course but a well done portrayal nonetheless.
so, who's your favorite devil?

Atheism - The next and final logical step
by sam_sane_now init is with great pleasure that i have found this forum, being an ex jw myself.
after leaving when i was 17 i still held some belief in the notion of a "god," even though i didn't believe in jw teachings, then when i was about 21 and thought about it properly; i realised that evolution is the only real alternative to all religion.
when you get to this point its very liberating to see that its not just jw's that are clouding and brainwashing peoples minds, but all religion, whether organised or not.

Welcome SSN! You are a thinker after my own heart. There are many atheists here. I hate to combine your welcome thread with a loaded philosophical discussion, but since it's already been done, I'll quote the great Richard Dawkins. When asked how to combat the perception that atheists just think they're smarter than religious people, he said: "Well of course we're smarter!"
Don't pull your punches. The world needs reason.

Atheist in U.S. poll 4% ------ Atheist on JWD 90 % ?
by caliber in( one recent post indicated this 90% figure) .
i don't wish to debate the pro's and con's of atheism, just help me understand your personal.
reasonings for this huge difference in figures.

Galileo
I agree that there is no way that this board is 90% atheist. That would put us on par with the membership of The National Academy of Sciences. Great company to be in, if it were true.
I think that what others have said is true, that we have a higher percentage of atheists because we were forced to critically examine all religion, including and especially our own. We eventually realized how people are fooled. It is the same reason so many of the great skeptics that don't believe in supernatural forces were and are magicians. Harry Houdini, James Randi, Penn & Teller, Michael Shermer. All great skeptics, all with a background in magic. When you've seen how the box is built, you stop believing the woman was really cut in half.

Noah's ark - Can't believe I once actually thought it was true
by sam_sane_now inwhen i was a jw i didn't even question that the noah's ark story might not be true.
i didn't realise that it wasn't achievable for a handful of people to gather literally millions of animals - two of each kind - and fit them into a boat where they would all survive for many days.
i didn't think about the fact that if the highest mountain was covered with water then how could plant life like trees and flowers come to exist again, especially so soon after, with the raven grabbing an olive leaf was it?
