  I'm not quite understanding something here, maybe someone can enlighten me. Why are soldiers repeatedly being referred to as "children"? I was here with some friends one day worrying about the soldiers, saying they are barely out of their teens, & a former US Marine promptly corrected me. He reminded me the US Military are trained soldiers. They may be young, but no one drafted, forced, or co-erced them into joining. They are trained professionals & know the risks involved in joining the MILITARY!

  They joined because they wanted to do the job, & they knew the risks going in. My daughter was the president of her high school senior class, & the vice president of that same class joined the US Marines of his own free will. He spent a year in Iraq in the initial action, & is currently in 29 Palms, Ca. At the end of August, he will be returning to Iraq. He is a skinny weed of a young man to me, but he calmly informed me he is a grown man & he has a job to do & he is doing it to the best of his ability.

  Anybody want his address? PM me & you can help support the troops. We send him letters & unique foods from home. No trolls or lunatics please.

  Well Frannie, I do remember your children saw some of this stuff, or the results of it. what do I mean the explainations are too simplistic? I mean putting things in an either or box is usually too simplistic. Do you have a conclusion, or is your personal opinion private?

  Littletoe, what do you think this thread started out life as??? What are you understanding as the intent of a few on here? I can't for the life of me figure out WHY :) But I think the tone of it is pretty clear.

  Lol, Big Dawg! While it IS entertaining, I must admit, I don't quite get it.

  It is baffling the WHYS of it all, isn't it???

  I can't help but think if it were me, I'd be like "to hell with America, What can I do to make My country better & to help MY fellow citizens."

  Why the fqascination & constant need for comment? Sour grapes I say :)

  just a few other things, before i continue.....while we were living in the "zoo," and within a few weeks after i?d sent the sign language letter to the gb, a woman came to our apartment to visit.

  my son and i had met her one time when we?d ridden the bus.

  Sleepy, what is the point of this, really? No one said "America, home of the ONLY free people, or home of the BRAVEST", did they? What would you prefer? What would appease you? "America, land that hopes to one day be free"? "America, people who try like hell to be brave"? What would you have a national slogan of some other country be? What would please YOU?

  What was the point of starting this whole thing? Do tell!

  I never said America is the ONLY place a person can become a millionaire. Simon said only millionaires can become president. So I agree, that may be, BUT anyone with the ambition can do it.

  Are people like you so bored with your own country/politics/life that this is what you spend your time doing? If you have so much free time, why not voulenteer, run for office where YOU live, take some classes, or at least vote :) Is America so fascinating??? It is all beginning to sound like sour grapes to me.

  Yes golf, the more you research, the more you can understand things are not usually what they seem on the surface :) These things can't be discerned from a 60 second sound bite or a propaganda film.

  Of course they are interested in politics around here, why just look at them argue politics :) They can't resist the bait. Everyone wants to be "right".

  Differing politics in one family is a good thing, as long as there is something substantial to back it up. The more a person researches, the more that person can tell simplistic solutions are unrealistic & spouting rhetoric at another person trying to convince them is just rude.

  I am still wondering why some people are so obsessed with other countries &their citizens. And inquiring minds wanna know, how many VOTE???

  Personally, I think it only breeds resentment. I feel it is a primative response/coping mechanism. It is a loss of control in the spanker.

  My dad & I were recently discussing this, & while he at first said spanking worked, he had to admit it only made him angry as a child. It made him feel angry & powerless. And it also made him hate teachers. His dad spanked, he rarely did spank, & the teachers were maniacal back when he was in school. The lesson he learned? It was appropriate for larger human beings to hit smaller ones. It was ok for someone strong to hit someone weaker. Not cool!

  When I was in school, they used wooden paddles & pulled kids by the hair, etc. It also made me have a hatred of teachers, school, & authority in general. I had the meanest teacher ever in third grade, she pulled my hair & hit me. Up until that time, I liked school. It was there in third grade I started the countdown. 9 more years, 8 more years, etc.
