In my old hall there was an elder ( refrow, renfroe ?) who watched the young guys and lived for the chance to criticize someone for breaking one of the wt rules. My sons would at times talk to young teenage sisters and like a hawk he would appear and nip any conversations in the bud. Several years later, an ex-jw lady we know told us about how Jeff R. called her teenaged daughter several times a week asking her to meet him at a local restaurant to talk. Just her and him, nobody else. Since he was an elder, nobody questioned his motives. Last I heard, this "shining example" of wt leadership is now the presiding overseer.

Hypocritical elders
by JimmyYoung ini used to work with an elder every day for several years.
one thing that helped me out of the cult was his hypocrisy.
our work was in construction and it would often run us late for meetings.

If I was still PIMI, I'd be terrified
by neat blue dog injust looking at the pictures in tomorrow's wt study makes me think of the nightmares i used to have as a child.
and nowadays the pictures are sometimes more realistic, so for any who are truly mentally in, this has a terrible effect on them and even their life choices.
looking in as a pimo or pomo it seems almost comical that adults would believe in this sci-fi bible fan-fiction, but it's not funny when we remember that all ages of the r&f are being manipulated by the gb by these cheap and evil means.. .

are the witnesses now considered "clergy " ?
by lancelink inyears ago when i was a jw, one of their cornerstone teachings was that they were nothing like babylon the great.
i remember being taught that the witnesses not using any type of clergy class distinction was proof that they had the right religion.. well, recently we had this article in the local paper, and an elder who was no doubt the presiding overseer tried to use the clergy class excuse to get out of answering questions regarding a child abuse case.
here is the statement that really got to me.

Here is the statement that really got to me. "The Kingdom Hall elder, Michael Penkava, tried to invoke his right as a religious leader to not testify against Hernandez-Pedraza. Ultimately, he was required to answer questions about actions the congregation took after learning about the sexual abuse."
Is this now the normal thing for witnesses to fall back on since child abuse is so rampant in this belief system ? https://www.nwherald.com/2019/10/23/crystal-lake-man-found-guilty-of-more-than-decade-of-sex-abuse/a4fuium/

when we were in, our kids would change the entire theme of pictures like this.
One Sunday, they, ( along with several other elementary school aged boys) changed all the characters from the magazine into TV characters.
Just imagine looking at the angels looking down from heaven,,,, and they had all become characters from Star Trek the Next Generation. Now those were funny, memorable meetings that we all enjoyed !

cart witnesses
by stan livedeath ini drove through a nearby seaside town today.
it was starting to rain.
it was cold.

I go to downtown Chicago quite often, and doing cart witnessing must cause a certain type of cognitive dissonance.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people walk by these carts, and the witnesses are smiling and either talking to each other, or playing with their phones.
its embarrassing to watch them .

jw's think that they are above the law,,,, again.
by lancelink inagain the ugly head of child abuse raises its head, and the witnesses are hopefully caught red handed for ignoring it :.

D-Day, not a single JW gave ultimate sacrifice while 9,000 Americans did just that
by FatFreek 2005 inas the major news outlets today published tributes to the 9,000 americans who landed, and were killed, on the beaches of normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history -- u.s. jws can sit back in their kingdom hall seats and home easy chairs, proud (and ignorant) of the facts that no jw ever killed a nazi in france's occupation.. today, most americans can proudly continue to speak english instead of german, or japanese -- partly because of those brave americans, not a single jw among them.. thank you to your grandfathers, great uncles, and other heroic men who never lived out the potential and promised of a fulfilling life..

when I left the jw organization, that was one of the aspects that really rubbed me the wrong way. I got involved with a group called Honor Flight that flies WW2 vets out to Washington DC for a day to visit their memorial. The ways this experience has affected me is amazing. The things those soldiers had to do-deal with is so sobering and has helped me to see that [people outside the jw mindset have truckloads of humanity,,, here is some pictures of an experience I just had out in Washington : https://www.facebook.com/sschwertfeger1/media_set?set=a.10157218875184882&type=3

Ex jw memorial
by lancelink inrecently a young person who was df'd died.
as you can imagine, there will be no talk at the hall.. well, enter some very courageous other young ex jw's who had their own memorial.. these people got together , and had a bonfire in memory of our friend.
and since we have hardly seen each other in over ten years, the conversation and tears flowed all night.. it just amazes me how all the parents of these grown up, normal young people think that ignoring their children is something that god approves of.

Several of them are married, have children, own houses, work a job, and still after several years, their parents have not even met the Grandchildren.😔 and that is ok with them.
another interesting thing I saw was that all the girls had married a guy who accepted them with someone who has no family because of the jw's. And they go so much out of their way to support their wives, what a wonderful thing to see and hear about.
we had a toast at the end, and most everyone told a story about the deceased, and there was a lot of laughing, and crying. But it was very therapeutic for everyone, because we all reconnected, and caught up on out lives.
much more so than the jw cut and dry memorial talk, it was a wonderful night .
