There is one other slight problem:
If a current Jehovahs Witness reads some of the other posts on the threads listed, he will be straight back into the Kingdom Hall! I know, I've tried it already.

this is for all of the current jehovah's witnesses who have questions about things they may have heard about on this website (or on dateline or other media), such as 1975, 1914 generation, blood policy changes, requiring women to scream when they are attacked by a rapist, and especially, the watchtower society's pedophile policy.. below are links to threads i have made that show clearly the answers to your questions about numerous topics, taken directly from the watchtower society's own publications: .

i was blown away reading about the un and the 'library card' excuse.
but i have a question: why did they join?
was it to lift restrictions in banned countries?
The simple answer is CREDIBILITY
Being registered with the U.N as an N.G.O. would indicate to world governments that the organisation was recognised as a bona fide religion and not just an obsolete cult. This greases the path a bit when setting up in countries that might be a bit hostile to JW's.
For a more difinitive reason perhaps someone who was around the org in 1991/92 could comment on what was happening (if anything) that would make this more important at that time. Otherwise it might only have occured to them then!

a question.... .
i have already mentioned this on another thread but got no answer... perhaps someone here can help.... .
it has been reported that the wtbts 'made' (what ever that means) $931 million in 2000. what does that mean?
I don't know but I would guess that the big numbers are turnover.
The question that keeps coming to my mind though is, with a turnover like, that there must be a profit generated somewhere even if they don't want it. If this is the case, is the profit just reinvested, put on deposit in an interest bearing account or distributed to a person or persons?
Anybody got any ideas on this?

if we take a look at the mental energy that must have been expended in contributing to threads on this board regarding various concepts of christianity it does not seen unlikely that, if it could have been "bottled" and kept, it could be used to power the next space shuttle.. is this what christianity is all about?
is it just one gigantic intellectual exercise that is only an option to those with the mental capacity to understand the never ending theorys put forward by all and sundry regarding its practice and bible understanding?
i believe that this would exclude at least two thirds of the worlds population from ever becoming, what many seem to believe are, true christians.
Thanks everyone for your responses, there is food for thought here.

We just have to be on his side and stay close to him.......like glue.
How do we do that?

Just try wading through some of the threads on this board on Beliefs, Doctrines and Practices and what I am saying becomes obvious. The intellectual and technical discussions are fantastic if you happen to be an intellectual with an over active imagination, but what happens if youre not, where does that leave you?
Some of the more recent Christian religions to come on the scene require a computer and the knowledge to use it in order to take part. There are many people in the world that would like to just have the electricty, never mind the computer.
As far as I can see, the WTS with its "perm any two from a hundred" list of beliefs and doctrines are no more guilty than any of the other Christian religions in this respect
Like most people, I do not have the answers, just the questions.
I was a WTS study for about six years (a record?) and rose to the dizzy heights of Unbaptised Publisher. I should add that this was at the insistence of my JW family. Fortunately I was saved in a different way when new light was shed on new light, thus illuminating the fact that studies were baptised within six months or else. Consequently I got the boot. So (apart from this) what stopped me in my tracks?
Simple! I just could not get my head round all the WTS material in a way that could make sense of it. But just as importantly I could not find a Witness who could either, and I met some high powered people during my six years. All I got in the way of answers from the most intelligent ones I could find was " Oh you are just not spiritual enough" and "Oh you dont want to find the truth" and "Oh you just do not have enough faith".
Some of these people were those who had spent long periods in prison for their beliefs or years in Bethel (same thing?) or as missionaries so they had devoted their entire lives to something that I did not have the intellectual capacity to even understand. How wonderful!
Apparently all this intellectual stuff can only be understood if you have enough faith to accept what you are told without question. This being the case why bother with it in the first place?
Not understanding the concept of most of these fancy doctrines meant that I did not believe the most outrageous ones (607 1914, faithful and discreet slave etc) and since I could not possibly have ever tried to get someone else to believe them, this precluded me from continuing to go out on the Ministry.
Any comments on faith versus intellect and where the dividing line is, if any?
Or is the question too intellectual?

i have been informed on good authority (a dub for 27 years) that you cannot get disfelowshiped for committing a wrongdoing, only for being unrepentant.. can anyone tell me if this is true or not, and if it is not where the misunderstanding comes from?

i spent a couple of hours yesterday going over things with a couple of elders, which was decent of them to give me a saturday afternoon.
they wanted to refer to the watchtower article to find points of agreement and common gound.
there were some of course since i still believe in god, creation and the bible (at least any doubts i had i was not ready to share at this time).
B.B. Thanks for:
"I could hardly tell others to follow an org. that I knew to be wrong on so many points"
Thats the biggie for me. As long as you still have belief in God how can you go out and tell what you know to be untrue to other people? What sort of God would insist that you did that?
Don't worry how many post on your thread - look at the number of views. A lot of people will know where you're comming from on this, even if they can't add much. (like me!)

Hi J.C.
She was doing OK until we got to number 6 !
everyone here seems to know a lot about jw history, but when i ask my friend (who was a convert) they don't seem to know too much.
do they teach a church history class on sundays or during the week?
(just curious...seems funny that my friend would convert from catholicism without knowing too much of the history)
Refiners Fire and "whats wrong with this quote?"
According to all the teachings at that time the Second Coming had already taken place!
(1874 or 1878 I think they said)
