Iām very sorry S o J but you have missed some something quite important out of your previous post (above) ā we will pretend that you did not do it deliberately.
The Hall purchased in 1972 was paid for out of congregation funds, it was also refurbished out of these same funds. The Society contributed no money to its purchase or modification so why was the Hall under the name of the Society and how could you return money to them that they had never given?
In some countries the Society is banned by law from charging interest because of its charitable status, it therefore gives interest free loans. Very good ā but when the interest free loan is paid back by the congregation, the Society claims title to the building.
Please correct me if I am wrong!

when i was one of jehovah's witnesses i was absolutely sure i had the truth.
so sure i would have been willing to sacrifice anything for my beliefs.
i worked hard at study, meetings, service - even aux.
Danny,
I take your point.

Religion is about doctrines. Doctrines are beliefs that are formulated from ideas and opinions that have no basis in proven fact. I cannot disprove any doctrine, JW or otherwise, but neither can any person prove a religious doctrine to me. It all has to be based upon my own interpretation of things as I perceive them to be.
I find that there are a number of religious doctrines that I cannot accept and a number that I can but I do not expect everyone to agree with my understanding of things. Everyone comes from a different angle in terms of background therefore they will each see things from their own perspective.
IMHO it is completely pointless to argue points of religious doctrine, there can never be a winner. as is completely demonstrated by the debates that take place on this board.
The whole point is that nobody has all of the complete "truth". If you believe otherwise you are being deceived.

did any of you hear any of the urban legends that jw's used to scare people into being deathly afraid of demons?
for example i remeber hearing that a child brough a smurf doll to a meeting and upon hearing the name jehovah uttered it got up and walked out.
got any j-dub urban legends?
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the one about the atom bomb explosions in Japan during the last war - I've heard it many times and think I once read it in a magazine.
The only survivor of the atomic bomb blast on Hiroshima was a Witness. Apparently he had been arrested for preaching "the good news" and was beinhg held in a prison that was deep underground. The moral is: that because he was being good and going on the ministry he was saved.
There were a few things that I could not understand about this one but I had more sense than to ask.
Who let him out and what happened when he came up into a heavily radiated area? What happened to the other people who were guards etc.also underground at the time? They had not been on the Ministry so why were they saved.
Answers on a postcard please!!!!

i was raised as a jw until the age of 16, when i supposidly "drifted" to the worldly world (which i love) i am 29 now and have my own family and am very happy.
in the last month i have stopped feeling guilty & frightened about not being involved.
i have always tried to compensate to my parents in other ways, but am getting tired never being able to make them really happy.
Hi Jamey x
As someone whos family are all in the "truth" I can tell you that in my experience you would be hitting your head against a brick wall if you tried to tell your own family anything that was not supportive if their beliefs. Their minds will be closed and if you say anything about problems within the organisation they will look the other way and say "we don't want to hear about that".
With regard to finances, that is a pet subject of mine and I have done enough research to be able to say it is a very complicated area to investigate. This is because the laws regarding the accounts of charitable organisations varies from country to country. It would need someone in each of the major countries in which they operate to carry out the investigation work in their own country. I have done much of it for the UK and can say it is a very wealthy organisation here with a huge income. I have been in touch with the IRS in America but they do not want to cooperate with people outside the States.
From what I have been able to put together so far it is my current estimate that the Organisation in all its forms and including all its subsidiaries is worth around 18 billion U.S. dollars worldwide. Obviously this is only a guesstimate but I get the feeling that its not too far out.

i have read the posts on the so called wealth of the jw organization.
where is the proof that they have all this money in the banks, somewhere.. with all the people leaving the org i can only assume that more concrete information would be available from people that have actually worked in the accounting department and would furnish this to the fbi.
where is this concrete information.
Sorry, the cursor just shoots all over the place whilst I am typing!!!
Just wanted to say that I have discussed my findings to date with Witnesses and they all believe that the money is used to build Kingdom Halls. What none of them appear to know is that the Society loans the money to build the Kingdom Halls and it has to be repayed in full by the congregations. Once it is paid off the Society are named in the Title deeds so that if the congregation ceases to exist, it is the Society who get the proceeds from the sale of the Hall.
All very interesting
