various media reports indicate that the wbts often employs the services of a large number of lawyers and i have seen it suggested that some of the top legal minds amongst them are in fact jehovahs witnesses.. since a qualified and experienced lawyer will have been trained in the art of digging out and scrutinising factual information, how come these people are jw?s?

if they applied their training, to the lest extent, to an examination of "the truth" (tm) it would quickly be seen as a load of bull puckey, even by a halfwit.

it could not possibly stand up to proper scrutiny by a person trained and qualified in the legal profession.

It could not possibly stand up to proper scrutiny by a person trained and qualified in the legal profession. The teachings of the WBTS are not supported by a single strand of factual information and the majority of the information that does exist appears to indicate that they have most of it horribly wrong.

I hope someone will give this some serious consideration and maybe comment on it because it worries me. Either these people have never bothered to investigate the religion that they belong to, or they in it under false pretences.

The alternative is too horrible to contemplate: the Temple at Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 B.C.E. etc ??????

You don?t say how long ago this was. You have to remember that nothing will appear on the Commissions web page until at least two years after the first accounts are filed.

The other thing that you have to watch is that often some Charities are hidden because they are registered as subsidiaries of other Charities. There are all sorts of fiddles that you can get up to to make youself difficult for the outside world to find if you are a Charity.

Outoftheorg, I was not at all put out, I was just trying to clarify things.

I am involved with Charities and the Charity Commission on a very regular basis. The charitable system in the U.K. is totally out of date and more suited to the middle ages when you doffed your cap to your superiors. The Commission is supposed to police the system to weed out and ensure that those like the WTBTS who do not meet the criteria, do not benefit. Unfortunately the Commission is completely useless at its job and a waste of public funds. It should be done away with together with the charitable system (in its present form). There are enormous loopholes in the system that are exploited by the wealthy to their maximum financial advantage. Of course they cover their backs so nothing is provable, but many people know whats going on.

Trustees of Charities (as opposed to the Charities themselves) are generally totally clueless and have no idea of what their responsibilities are and the extent of their liability if things go wrong. Trustees are mostly middle aged, middle class people who are looking for something to do which will say to their peers "look at me, I am such a wonderful person for doing this for others" ? meanwhile all they are doing is wrecking someone else?s life. They act as unpaid, untrained and inexperienced managers in areas that seriously affect the lives and welfare of less fortunate people.

As you may gather I am not a supporter of the system, and the fact that outfits like the WTBTS (and others even worse) can latch on to it shows why.

The Possible Outcome of court cases

since reading the post about the molestation trials in texas, i have been pondering on the possible outcome of these cases.

it is clear that the wbts relies on the firewalls they have set up between the congregations and elders and the corporations.

it seems that the ones in jeopardy, are the congregations and especially the elders.

Here in the U.K. the congregations are registered as Charities (not for profit organisations) with the Elders as the Trustees. The Trustees are accountable in the circumstances being considered here and could be prosecuted in a Court of Law. They are able to take out insurance to cover all eventualities and liabilities - except those in which they are found guilty, in Court, of an illegal act.

Yes, this does raise interesting prospects for them.

Astronomy: Three Dates: A Young Witness

so, taking those title elements in reverse order: the young witness is me ?

this story goes back to the early sixties.

the three dates are: february 1986, august 11th 1999, and june 8th 2004. it's the fact that the last of those dates is , after all these years, finally nearly here that made me think of writing this post.

I?m never going to get the hang of this Bible thingy. Can someone please explain how Genesis 1:30 tells you that all animals were vegetarian at one time? All the on-line Bibles that I have looked at say that God gave all green vegetation to every living thing as food. Nowhere can I find any reference to God forbidding the consumption of anything else.

Does this prohibition appear somewhere else in the Bible? What am I missing?

Found a Second Aircraft Owned by The WT

this aircraft is the same model owned by the wt.

it is a twin-engine piper pa-31-310 navajo and it's n number is n254sw

as their other cessna twin-engine, this one is also based in alaska.

The issue here is not is it wrong for the Society to own airplanes, but is it wrong for senior members of the Society to use the amenities paid for and provided by the junior members, for their own R + R. For these senior people to make a scheduled stop at a place with only one or two inhabitants IMHO does not really sound as if it was a business trip.

For those of you who are comfortable with this explanation then so be it.When I was in the military, my C.O. would never have believed me if I had come up with such a story (particularly if I were holding my fishing gear ).
