Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(

i've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!

i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.

I am honestly what I say I am but my sister did say witnesses were welcome on here so can I ask a question of you?

From your attack can I assume only people who are ex-witnesses or currently unhappy witnesses welcome on here?

I have to say I was embarassed by most of them post thinking they'd showed a woeful lack of being a witness especially the baptism one :s so it's ironic you use them against me,

I did discouraging ones to deconvert partners but this is something I feel strongly about from my atheist forums, were they always talked of ways to get their religious partners to stop being "deluded" and various methods of doing this, I hated it on there and hate it on here if you encourage it. A person has a right to believe in little green men on the moon if they want too without a partner in a position to use emotion and browbeating over long periods to change their minds. I'd say the same on a witness forum too.

Sexual compatibility does stay the same what changes is maybe how often or trying new things. I think you maybe referring to a marraige where the sex stops for whatever reason. That doesn't mean you are not compatible anymore just means that for whatever reason one of the partners has lost interest and if you have any interest in saving your marraige you'll find out why and fix it.
What if your partner make some weird noise during sex or just does things that irritates you to no end?

Mmm maybe, I've been married twice, Lol weird noises aren't a biggy, I always found hygiene more important ^^ but I am definately off topic now so am tell myself off and stop :)

Maybe I'm out of the norm, had sex with my soon to be hubby on the second date, moved him in to my apartment after dating only 2 months, lived together for 11 months before getting married, had first kid 18 months after getting hitched, we've been married over 15 years now and still going strong

I think a test drive is very important - what if you don't and then you find out after you are married that you are not compatible sexually? Then you are stuck in a sexless miserable marraige. But again that is certainly a personal decision, just don't say you don't have a choice.

This would be true if you assume sexual compatibility stays the same as when you are first together. And I would also say sexual compatibility is only one aspect of how relationships survive and are strong.

I would say I made same mistake a lot do and mistaking rush of lust in a partner for love and commit to soon, started thinking happy families then have them quickly go off you after year to 2 years together.

I really think this person is an active JW troll. If you read through this thread she is simply spouting all the JW rubbish all the time and is NOT genuinely questioning at all. This is my opinion.

I have been researching a lot in recent weeks inc JW's, I suppose I should take it as a complement that I sound enough like one to be accused of being a troll. I am honestly not a troll but I might be a cookoo in the nest because of thinking of going back, although my sister did say still active witnesses came on here so I was interested.

Chat forum etiquette dictates this: Read the forum for awhile. Don't make generalizations before
you learn things about those on the forum.
Sure, there are some here with a big chip on their shoulder. See if they are being hypocrites by
reading their threads. There will be a few, but in the vast majority of cases, they are not so or they
are still in the learning process as you are.

I apologise It was a little generalistic, I let myself get provoked by a few posts,

I maybe should have waited a bit longer before getting to heavily into debate :) normally I do and after being one of the few Christians on a dog-eat-dog atheist/skeptic forum, I think i've learned to be quite a fighter in my corner. I've been browsing more now, some things I still find not to my liking on here but hey your all much nicer than my last forum :)

As i've said from start tempting but hey I was kinda hoping for more biblical arguments and possibly some more christian group alternatives but you are perfectly right it could be time, you guys seem to know my mind better than I do!

One question though, you guys don't think it's a little hypocritical saying it's your fault if things go wrong in your life outside the JW's get pregnant etc but in the next breath blame JW's for everything similar that happens while being a JW?

Another observation that I have. Being a single mother with 2 children, one with special needs, you sure have plenty of time to waste on the boards. I mean with all the research and energy you spend on them wouldn't it be more productive doing something else?
Your points are becoming a bit redundant.....again if that is what you want to believe DO IT!

You certainly given me some straight talking there and your right I do have plenty to do and about to do it! although being two weeks away from birth I do find a lot of time on my hands when advised to rest, which I find most convenient on my big comfy excutive computer chair reclining position, as I answer replies on here.

I don't want to get into a position of repeating myself though, I came on here for a few answers and you guys have given me lots to look into, so I will try only to answer now if some newer points etc come up, it's been a very fun discussion...lol my sister says she regrets putting me on the site now.

If the JWs are wrong on blood, and their doctrine causes hundreds, if not thousands, to die needlessly, does that not make them bloodguilty?

hi sir82 you make a valid point but if we make the argument that faiths and thats all religions, are blood-guilty if their doctrines lead to deaths, then none of them qualify and all are blood guilty, I know in this sense i'm sounding like a JW appologist but when i live in a time when you can have the same christian faith sending boths sides of a war with prayers for victory to the death of their enemies, it is confusing!

You are right though it is more than a weak point atm :) it's one of the things i'm stuck on atm.

i've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!

i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.

firstly I'd ask her if in both greek and hebrew is there a word for cross other than stauros and xylon that could have been used as an alternative, a definate word that only means Cross?
The genius of Leolaia's research is that she definitively shows that stauros was used for all sorts and shapes of crucifixion devices. The most prevalent use is for the crosspiece. So it is likely as Jesus was dragging the stauros through the marketplace, he was carrying the crosspiece.

That doesn't change the fact why was the word cross used when he was on "the cross" it might be a good arguement for when it was being dragged through the street.

In a modern illustration, when we use the word "cab" today we typically refer to a taxi. Even though the root word brings to mind a horse drawn coach or carriage. I can imagine an interstellar scholar thousands of years hence, studying the ancient language of English, might erroneously conclude that all New Yorkers in twentieth century America got around in horse and carriage. He could even produce evidence from ancient pictures of Central Park. But he'd be wrong.

a good illustration if a bit modern (by the way in england we still use word Taxi lol) basically they are using root word as apposed to a definate cross word that was in existance at that time, as a slang or possibly local viariant hmmm a little weak and more so if you take into account how christians use the cross as a way to describe God as 3=1 my mind is thinking of catholics doing the father, son, holy ghost to sign of the cross on there bodies with the hand signals, Do other christian faiths use the cross sign in that way too or is it just the catholics?

Surely in this case God would have made sure they used the actual Cross word as apposed to a possible derivitive (i'm still holding my opinion on this one till I see definate evidence that cross and stauros haven't become meaning both since jesus's death as a causal result of christian faiths saying it was a cross.)
