i have a question for the ex-jw's on this forum after months of reading the forum..... many say how good it is to be free of the oppressiveness of the jw's that they can now enjoy the freedom to... have sex, celebrate christmas, gamble, embrace politics etc.

there are still biblical scriptures and principles in place that if you still followed the bible would mean you avoid these things and yet these are now embraced as one of the perks of no longer being a jw so in my confusion i ask.... if these are what you want, isn't it more correct to say you no longer follow the bible as apposed to just the jw's?.

lol I answered your questions more than others outlaw and your wrong I do like 'Glory' can you find a dictionary or theasaurus that equates it to celebrate without resorting to changing it to rejoice first?

isaacaustin since i'm not a practising witness and feel free to check with blonde if I'm quoting from a watchtower, I cannot answer your question it doesn't apply to me and it fully as LOADED a question as Outlaws was lol (For the benefit of readers I reserve the right not to answer questions that are logical fallacies) All I stated was a simple example to show it isn't that easy just to leave a faith that we all have choices were to go from there!

OTWO the reason I didn't go into to much detail is I wanted to keep it deliberately just a faith issue rather than a specific event that might cloud my point.

Or are you saying that there are always extenuating circumstances to this sort of scenario?

I OTWO added a further catagory to cover those that can continue being morale without the bible there is a scripture that covers this, one that shows we as creations of God have it in us to be morale without the bible.

I will argue for my immorality point because to go against morality often hurts others, from the nastier end were we murder, rape, steal to just fornicating, lying, etc and end up hurting others without acknowledging it. So if something we do has unforseen bad consequences we can define that as immoral. The proof of this is easy to see but sometimes not till afterwards.

actually you have a point megs I forgot that,

0/ leave the bible but leading a morale life according to what we ourselves define by our own personal judgement! which can cover working without gain for charities, bringing up a family, or just simply living.

I wondered whether to say more on this thread especially as it downgraded into a hate witness thread but I want to get back to the spirit of what I was thinking when I first wrote this unlike some think, I genuinely worry about faith and God. Now imagine yourselves in the 4th century you just been told you are all now to agree with the current governing bodies 'New light' some will agree, others won't and find themselves upset and unhappy, Others might be really hurt by the changes, others will just be undecided, what do you do?

1/ We can accept it and persuade ourselves they are right!

2/ We can disagree calling them all the names under the sun and spend the rest of our lifes trying to break and destroy them!

3/ We can use it as an excuse to leave the teachings of the bible completely and enjoy all that immorality has to offer.(this is a limited One lifetime only offer, enjoy it while you can! whether you believe in god or not)

4/ We can remain deeply unhappy but do nothing accept suffer in silence allowing bitterness to eat us up!

5/We can accept the fault and the imperfection in the current doctrines but try and be possitive, working from within doing our best to change things by example and have a chance of getting our religion back on track, Letting our love of God gives us hope and courage.

6/ We can leave completely and join another faith reckoning by simple reasoning that since the other is wrong this one is right! there's just a chance this could be the case. some will check it's doctrines thoroughly to make sure or others will not look to closely not willing to let themselves be dissolutioned again.

7/ We can create a whole new faith, if we feel the old one is beyond repair, but this takes a lot of bravery and courage with the knowledge that failure is a great possibilty, you need a lot of faith in God to take this final step.

I personally think trinitarian faiths have lost their way completely beyond help if they no longer know God and beyond any major changes although the 'New light' on Hellfire was surprising lol 1600 years of books in their libriaries to be changed or ignored :s

If I apply the above to watchtower and the Jehovah's witnesses which is more applicable to me, then I am in the point 5 catagory and still willing to help the Jw's as much as I can, I did look at the alternatives but my search was in vain I found the same type of errors, I have not lost my faith in Jehovah and I have not the strength to start a new faith that is a more tolerate loving version of the Jehovah's witnesses.

If anyone thinks I've missed an option please feel free to add one, and or which catagory you would fall into indeed some might fall into more than one?

Isaacaustin if thats what you want to believe you can, but consider this if I am telling the truth and I am, how closed minded do you and those that say the same thing must be if you get some comfort from assuming I am lying although I cannot see any benefit from it personally, I already say I'm pro-witness and probably will be a witness again one day,

I like debating on this forum but it's hard to keep things on topic, by the way you kinda contradicted yourself, you said I never answered any of your questions and then you said i answered them with red herrings, I admit I am reluntant to stay on issues like christmas because i felt i covered my position on viewing it as false worship and still very actively pagan in it's rituals quite well, if you didn't agree thats your freedom.

dacheech i didn't address your personal circumstances because others on here that have been in your situation could advise you better than I ever could, anyway you believe I am a liar so my words are already filtered out by you, who ever listens to someone they consider a liar?

OTWO I really wanted to discuss with you about what you said more but this medium is frustrating in how little you can really get your meaning across and you despite having no love for the WTs have taking me at my word and I appreciate that, Thank you

Thanks to all that participated even the ones that have resorted to personally attacking me in the end it's your perogative, It's an interesting debate I really want to explore it more but 18 pages is quite long, I think i'll read through them again at my leisure at some future date, some points on how people have managed to retain their belief in the bible while others now doubt it completely to was very thought provoking.

I am a Christian I have never idolized a cross I dont know any Christians that do either.

I think it's just something the watchtower tell you will do.

I have seen tie pins, rings and other jewlery for sale with the watchtower on, does that mean all JW's idolize the watchtower?

I only know this through this site that these things existed, I never saw them on a witness when I was an active one it has been 10 years, if they do wear them i'm surprised there hasn't been a watchtower discouraging it?

to be honest the jewelry is wrong for both Jw's and christians if they wear them but the crosses in/on the churches and at the alters is the worst by bible standards in my opinion.

That's not intended to be disrespectful, but I personally don't see the point in organized religion, especially when it is so flawed.

I'm just hedging my bets again the bible sets the president for organised faith in the NT, anyway its not like i'm not flawed myself how do I know i'm reasoning rightly, i've just had 16 pages of people disagreeing with me so you know just picking a faith that suits us and our morality thats all any of us can do. its a bit chicken and egg.
