I was wondering if I could get some opinions or help on this matter...
You see, I have two jw friends I still converse with over the phone. They don't live in my state, so I can't see them too often. They had no knowledge of how I really felt about the borg until recently.
Now, these two dubs are best friends, but quite opposite. While they both whole heartedly believe in the "truth" one of them is generally nice and shy, very clean morally. The other is a bit more "loose" I guess you could say, cursing, obscene jesting, whatever.
I spoke to the first one about a few issues I had with the borg, but our main topic was really about the blood issue, and how absurd it is to respect the symbol of life more than life itself. Karvel helped me out with my friend on three-way, thank goodness. He has such a way with words. We left my friend dumb founded, and you could feel the cognitive dissonance oozing from their being. My friend hasn't called me back yet, for they say that research is needed to come up with an answer (yeah, good luck finding anything :p)
The other person, however, has recently been disfellowshipped, so of course, everyone is supposed to shun them and "not even utter a greeting," including their best friend. I wasn't given specific details, but this one was DF for doing something sexual with someone of the opposite sex. So the best friend tells me this, and tells me they won't be talking for awhile. I voiced how I felt about disfellowshipping, and how it's wrong and unbiblical, and that someone in this situation needs encouragement, not shunning, and especially from the best friend. (this conversation actually happened before I spoke to them about the blood). So I sent the DF friend a nice email that basically said they were free to contact me whenever, and my friendship is not conditional. They didn't respond, so I called, and we just talked normally for awhile; though my friend mentioned reading my email. Then they asked if I knew why they were DF, and we talked, and I said how I felt about disfellowshipping (thanks to JWFacts), but they actually felt it wasn't that bad, and it's a good form of punishment for those who don't love Jehovah enough to avoid bad situations.
So, basically, I'm trying to figure out where to go from here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post...

one aspect of mind control is thought control by using "loaded language"
by megaflower inwe all know the wts has its own set of words and expressions that make them unique and sets them a part from other organizations.
lets see how many we can come up with.
i'll start.

Do you enjoy listening to music from another generation?
by JH insome people only like recent music, maybe because they don't want to identify themselves to an older generation.. often, i'll listen and download music that played when i was a kid, and really enjoy it..

I enjoy various forms of music from other generations, but I like modern stuff too. One of my favorites that come to mind from another generation is Cab Calloway. His voice was so smooth, and I love that scatting. Plus, he was just so darn sexy!
One of my favorite clips of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWtHeJPgbXo -

How did you find this site?
by truthseeker init seems as though an age has passed from discovering this site seven years ago to where i am now.
just before we started studying the daniel's prophecy book, i went online to see if anyone had made a study bookmark with the dates and paragraphs on.
i "stumbled" across this site, way back in 2000. of course, like a good christian i pretty much determined that this site had gone apostate from the other jw sites, such.

When a JW, what did you think about human fossils of 1.2 million years
by LouBelle inwhen i was in and documentaries came on the telly about human fossils being found dated 800 000 years old or 1.2 million years old i would always say - they surely must have the dating process wrong (hello - i'm not expert) or would try find a loop whole to make sure that the belief of mans' 6/7000 year existance.. i also used to reason that they were probably a species of apes or forgeries - anything to make myself believe we as jws' were right - i did this without even "thinking" really - like breathing.. i even studied science & biology at school and would also have to come up with ""excuses"" for this or that.
ag what did we know we were only kids, but when you become an adult and have adult reasoning faculties one can't ignore the facts.. so what did you create as a safe bubble when things like this came up?.

New " Witness Only " Watchtower - Even More Controlling - Check this Out
by flipper init had been 5 years or more since i even read a watchtower article after exiting the witness cult in late 2003. but i was curious to see if the new " witness only " watchtowers were more controlling than i remember them being 5 years ago.
and it certainly opened my eyes to the extreme control.
when you have been away from it - you can really see the difference !

"If any statements come to our ears that are critical of the truth or that cast aspersions on the congregation, the elders, or any of our brothers, we do not accept them at face value. Rather we ask: "Is the one spreading this story acting in harmony with what the Bible says? Do these stories or allegations further Jehovah's purpose? Do they promote the peace of the congregation?" Anything we hear that tears down the brotherhood rather than builds it up is a worthless thing."
Um hello? Wouldn't the first question that comes to mind be, "Well, is it true?" They print every other question under the sun, but that one? Hmm, suspicious... -

I used to feel that dating methods used were wrong because dubs are supposed to believe the world is only 7,000 years old. I actually thought the creation book was intellectual and correct on everything! My friend pointed me to a website that analyzed the entire book and showed how the borg cleverly used partial quotes to mislead people into thinking that professionals agree with their teachings, but when you look at the entire context of which the quote(s) were taken, it's obvious that their intended meaning was changed. And there's one guy that's quoted prominently as an expert, but he was actually some quack who never went to college and believed in aliens or something.
This actually happened about a year ago, but at the time, cognitive dissonance didn't allow me to really understand how manipulative and cultish this religion is... -

Just curious--how many Dubs/ex-Dubs have come to JWD in the last year?
by Alpaca ini have the sense that we are seeing a lot more open dissent on jwd with dubs who are still in the borg or fading.. what do you guys think?.
how many have recently left or are in the process of leaving as a result of jwd or other related sites that expose the borg?.
what was the final straw that did it?.

Alpaca,
Yeah, I've only been here for about two weeks :p I have been kinda very carefully testing the waters with my mom. I'll bring up an itty bitty point every now and then if it happens to naturally come up in conversation. I surprise myself at how easy it is to slip something in. So far, we've talked about false dates, the Malawi/Mexico fiasco, the blood doctrine, pedophiles, and women's rights. While I can tell she agrees with me to some extent, she always finds a way to end the topic by saying that only some things may be wrong but the majority of the religion makes sense.
My dad, however, is quite the stubborn old man, and I dare not say anything to him. Though I did say something once about the watchtower article after the memorial, in that Jesus wasn't in there, and how it's strange that they would de-emphasize him, but he said that Jesus was in there as a baby. Wow, one paragraph, whoopdee frickin doo! It was during the meeting, so I really couldn't make the response I wanted.
This road of mind will definitely be interesting, and tough. But the JW boards, as well as a certain someone, is making that journey much better for me. -

My mind is completely set free, but I'm still "in" because of my family. I have older parents, and I really don't want to break their hearts and tell them how I really feel. Even if they'd give me the time of day to listen to what I have to say, they would feel that the last years of their life was totally wasted, and I just don't want to do that to them...

Things to wear at mtg that will raise eyebrows but won't get you into 2...
by cognac inmuch trouble... or, things to do at the mtg that will raise eyebrows but won't get you into to much trouble.. i've been thinking about this since i still go.
i'm surprised at how much a person can get away with if they are in a hall that they have no family in that particular kingdom hall.... at the memorial i put on so much dark eye make-up i was shocked my husband didn't say anything walking out the door.
instead, i got compliments, lol, not exactly what i planned on.... one of my friends who faded went to the memorial and she had a pretty low cut shirt on.

Lately, I've been "sluttin' it up" at my meetings just to see how long it takes for someone to say something. I wore one of my sluttiest outfits to the memorial; spagghetti-strap tank top, showing lots of back and chest, short skirt showing lots of leg, and these platforms:
Look at that playboy insignia!
To my shock, I got the most compliments on this outfit, and no one said anything negative
Of course, my buddy suggests I should lay low since no one knows how I really feel about the dubs...
