I was Dunked at 14. I really had no idea what I was doing either... it was just expected. I was rushed into it a little bit because the "brothers" said I couldn't be in my sister's KH wedding unless I was baptised (which isn't true). I am sure I would have caved in within a few years anyway though.

Is Jdubs practice of Teenage baptism really any better than Infant Baptism?
by blkblk13 inso i was thinking the other day about how the jdubs always mock the catholics for baptizing infants who can't make a true commitment to god so the sybol of dedication is empty.
well, as anyone who's been in the org knows there is a culture of pressuring teenagers to get baptized.
if u r over 12yo it is a question that is constantly asked.

god's organization...
by kzjw inis that term blaphemy, or is it idolotry?
if i'm an ubm, but know that "though shall have no other gods before me" i am spiritually wndangering myself?
my mate tries to defuse this debate by saying the organization exists in the form of angels, but were she to spew that bs to an elder, i'm sure she'd get some serious counselling.

There isn't a single mention of "Organization" in the bible text, OT or NT.
As of the latest CD, there are 799 references to "God's Organization" in other WTS literature (mostly in the Watchtower)

"What need does God have for a Starship?" - Captain Kirk
It's a bogus concept, really... like God is sitting around a conference table with some angels and says: "Look here fellas... I need to form an 'organization' to get some things done. My unlimited cosmic power just isn't cuttng it anymore."

Is being searched by your employer EVERY day legal?
by Gill ini am in the middle of induction training for a new job at a local store that is one of the uk's largest hardware stores.. today we were told it was company policy that every staff member is searched everyday before they leave the shop.
you cannot, under any circumstances leave the store until you have been searched both your bag and person and sometimes you car also searched.. your handbag has to be emptied and searched, your pockets have to be emptied and you have to take off whatever clothes you are told to take off including shoes, roll up your shirt above waist level if you are a woman and loosen the waist band of your trousers.. if i am right, even the police are not permitted to search anyone without due cause and i already feel 'violated' at the thought that i will have to go through this humiliation everyday.
this shop basically sells toiletries, garden stuff etc and insist that half of their theft if from staff.. however, we were also told that shoplifters cannot be stopped unless they have been followed all round the store and their is 100% knowledge that they have stolen something as a stop and search would get the store into terrible trouble.. so, am i correct in thinking that these people are going to violate my human rights every day!.

Yes.. that proves how evil the internet really is.
BTW, I freaked out the weekend that the site was down, and did a web search for other sites hoping to maybe find some news about JWD. Every other forum I looked at was pitiful compared to this one.
Great job Simon. Thanks!

Did you ever really believe that god wanted you to shun people?
by jambon1 ini think at one point i did.
looking back i can't see why i thought like that.
i always had doubts about it but you would hear the old 'gods loving dicipline' line.
-

Even when I agreed with and went along with all of the stupid JW rules, it felt unnatural to shun people.

Shunning & JWs on Miami Ink TV Show
by doinmypart inmiami ink is a show about tattooing, it airs on u.s. cable channel tlc.
the show highlights the work of the tattoo artists and tells the background of why a person gets a particular tattoo.. on last week's show a young lady wanted what she referred to as a "conscience" tattoo.
when i heard "conscience" my ears perked up.

I was watching the show on Discovery Health about the True ER stories, and they had a segment on a JW who wouldn't take a transfusion after a snakebite.
Too bad there aren't more shows like this that highlight the absurdity of JW doctrine... maybe more people would "wise-up".

Disaster Preparedness
by passwordprotected inas an elder i have a file on my computer containing the name, address, cell and home telephone number of every publisher associated with the congregation of which i am a part.
it is my understanding that this information is also held at the branch and, in turn, at brooklyn.
the reasoning behind the need to have such information on all of the publishers is that, in the event of a disaster, be it through 'nature' or design, the elders will be able to contact the 'flock'.

I don't recall the elders making a real effort to maintain those lists until after Katrina... then it was on everyone's short list.
I guess the Holy Spirit really didn't have it on his/its radar until CNN and all of the newspapers started recommending that everyone create a disaster plan.
Do you guys know if this was an "elder mandate" before the huricane seasons of 2004 and 2005?
