I am amazed with the speed at which the WTS is hastening its own demise. They are painting themselves so far into a corner this time... I don't think they will be able to worm their way out with the typical batch of "new light".

Why I will NEVER be an elder again
by stillajwexelder inso the po confirmed what many on this board already know.
at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.
any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.

Why we must obey the F&DS - according to this "brother"
by bud2114 insome may have seen this tid-bit being passed around in certain jw email circles.
a "deeply concerned" jw relative (who knows i have soured on the whole jw thing) emailed this to me in hopes that it would improve my attitude.
at first i was just going to thank them for their concern and for the "encourgaging" email, but then i decided i must respond to this.

Thanks for the great argument... I will get a lot of mileage out of it.

How many of us remember the Jonestown massacre?
by james_woods inby that i meant - how many remember being an active jw when this happened?.
what was the general reaction from the rank & file, the elders, even the co/do?
does anybody remember there being magazine articles on this?.

I was very young when it happened, so I don't remember any JW reactions. But I do bring it up a lot in conversations now, just to see what my JW friends/family will say.
The reaction is almost universal... something along the lines of:
"That's what happens when people put their faith in men"
I just want to shake them when they say that. Why can't hey step back and listen to their own words. They just don't get it.

The Tunguska Event
by sacolton injune 30, 1908. at around 7:17 a.m. local time, tungus natives and russian settlers in the hills northwest of lake baikal observed a column of bluish light, nearly as bright as the sun, moving across the sky.
about 10 minutes later, there was a flash and a sound similar to artillery fire.
eyewitnesses closer to the explosion reported the sound source moving east to north.

It's a little off topic, but I remember an elder in Virginia that was DF'd for punching another Elder in the parking lot of the KH.
I may be a little off on the details (they may not have been elders, maybe only MS), but the one guy was a real jerk that nobody liked (I think his name was Sonny), and he was mouthing off . So the other guy (His name was Fletcher) punched him and knocked him out. He was DF'd, and everyone was sad because he was well liked and the guy he punched wasn't.
Funny stuff.

That was an Evil Cloud/Rainbow of Doom...
Who needs the Emergency Broadcast System when there are Rainbow Doom Clouds alerting us to impending disaster?

Very good advice... otherwise, if there is something wrong, you risk doing greater damage.

I tore my meniscus while I was playing basketball years ago. I had arthroscopy to correct the torn cartilage, and it was a relatively smooth operation, easy recovery, minimal pain.
I made the mistake of playing Vollyball a few months later and, I guess my knee was still weak because when I pivoted, the entire joint slipped and I tore the ACL and MCL.
That was EXTREMELY painful. I had surgery to fix everything... They did a full knee reconstruction using the center of my patellar tendon and some small screws.
The recovery time for that was a bit longer... I think I was in bed for a couple of days and hobbling around on crutches for a few weeks.

What Was Lousy About Being A JW For You?
by minimus inwas it that you never got holiday candy until the day after?.
that you couldn't be a "normal" kid?.
that you always were feeling restricted, depressed and angry???.

Feeling like an oddball at school and work, being criticised for just about everything, backstabbing "friends" that you have to keep accepting...
Having to hear how wonderful everything is, and how happy everybody is when you know otherwise.
I could go on.
