I hated it.I was sorry at giving presentations and always felt stupid trying to talk at the doors.I dreaded anyone asking a question about the belief ...always told them I would look up information on it and come back...I never did.My heart was never in the preaching work and I felt guilty all the time because I didn't have zeal and joy for the ministry like the lit. always says you should.I'm glad I'm not burdened down with it anymore.

"Woe is me" -- so say the JW's
by Gopher inthe way we were taught as jehovah's witnesses made us think everyone who didn't evangelize was in deep trouble.
1 corinthians 9:16 was often quoted at us by every travelling overseer who wanted to exhort the congregation, and that verse says in part, "necessity is laid upon me.
really woe is me if i did not declare the good news!".

I don't think anyone should be forced to give talks if it goes against their nature to speak in front of people, but if you're a jw there is no excuse. You are made to feel like you're not worthy of life if you don't do this.Well,Paul was specially commissioned to do this and I believe he was referring to himself in that scripture, not everyone. It's not in everyone's nature to preach to people at doors either but they would have you think you are worthless if you don't do this.I just don't believe someone would lose their life if they were too shy to do everything witnesses say they should do.This has always been one of my biggest quirks with jws.

How did you view your congregation?
by haujobbz in.
when i was in my congregation i found it to be a very selfish self spirited congregation,i also found many witnesses to be very easily offended and hyper sensitive oh and i forgot the gossip ohh the gossip was horrendous, this hyper sensitivity really got on my nerves because it was starting to rub off on me and i started to get paranoid and easily offended and i was never like that b4.. and what pi@@ed me off was the fact how brothers on the stage said how loving our congregation was and what a good reputation it was known to have.. but now i have left and im back to my down to earth happy personality.

They always do somebody shitty and then act like it's your own fault.Something similar to this story happened to me also. And then they were at my door all the time begging me to come back to the meetings. They said"You have to serve Jehovah, not men".Well, I don't want to serve a God who's people are stuck up and hurtful.Don't even talk to them when he brings an elder back with him.I say, if you only have to serve God,then he's also the only one you have to answer to.To hell with them.

disfellowshipping
by Jokemyster insince the organization has recieved "new light" regarding the 1914 generation, and completely changed their view on this, does this mean that.
all the former jehovah's witnesses who were disfellowshipped years ago for the same view the organization is now teaching will automatically be.
accepted into fellowship again?

I seriously doubt that they will be taken back into the flock and offered an apology.

SHOULD CHRISTIAN wear thong undies??
by QUEENIE inthey got a thread should christians wear sandals --- i want to know should they wear thong undies -- well is it unchristian??

I think that is now a matter of conscience. If it doesn't bother you to wear thongs, then by all means go ahead. But if you feel so guilty about it you cannot even concentrate on what's being said from the platform, then your conscience is telling you that you should switch to grandma drawers.

Are JW's really seperate from the world?
by Andyman ini have done alot of posting on different boards since i started on the internet.
i have found that jw's are really not as "seperate" from the world as they claim to be.. as a jw i was told we had to be "seperate" from the world.
you know, get drunk, use drugs, abuse our families, cheat on taxes, lie, be greedy, etc.. but from what i have seen in my old congregtion, and the stories i have read here and on other boards, this statement isn't really true.

I knew an elder who use to pay someone to get him an illegitimate inspection sticker for his car when it wouldn't pass.

Donation Arrangement
by Frenchy ini am curious as to how many of you are completely comfortable with the 'new' donation arrangement.
(okay, i know it's not new anymore but...) do you prefer it over the old way?
(i'd like to leave these two magazines with you for a contribution of fifty cents).

People must surely be wondering why the jws charged for the magazines for all those years ,then all of a sudden it's on a donation basis.(If they can do it this way, then why did it take so long?)

Early jws more deserving?
by dsgal in.
here's something i don't get...i was reading in a jw publication(i think it was "proclaimers of god's kingdom"that the early witnesses only had to go in,sit down and listen to a talk.they never even had to raise their hands or utter a word.didn't go door-to door either, and yet most if not all of them claimed to be of the "anointed class".nowadays if you don't comment at every meeting, spend most of your free time in field service and give talks yourself on the tms(which they didn't even have in those days) you are made to feel like your'e not even worthy to live on the earth, let alone heaven.so what's up with that?what did they do to make god love them more?.

Thanks to every one for your replies.
jgnat,
Your reply makes a lot of sense.Actually,I have been expecting some "new light" about the anointed.I don't know if they'll ever all be dead and gone though, since the memorial partakers have not decreased since the mid-1980's.Strange.
