They do not tithe but every now and then there will be a study in the km about giving to the organization. They also put a reminder in the watchtower sometimes that you can put the society in your will and make them the beneficiary on your life insurance policies. This is something I never thought was right.

Do JW's pay tithing?
by Double Edge ina friend of mine said that jw's paid tithing.
i've never heard it mentioned on this board - is this true, and if so is there a set amount?
it's biblical so i would expect the jw to say something about it.

Question for Newbies
by gumby inof all the jw's that are alive at the present.......the biggest percentage of those have been in the organisation 10 years or less.
most have no knowledge of the reason why others leave.
so......i was wondering......

I would suggest reading Diane Wilson's book. She really delved into the flip-flopping thing and found out a lot I didn't know about and I was a jw for over 30 years. The one thing that really got me though was the revision of the term "generation".Also,I wonder how they will explain it if 30 years from now there are still 8,000 memorial partakers. This number has not decreased since the mid-1980's.I often wonder if someone is juggling the books so they can use this to say why armageddon hasn't came yet.

DID YOU ALLOW BAD ASSOCIATIONS?
by minimus inbeing raised as a witness, i was taught to have nothing to do with worldly people.
as long as they were not dedicated, baptized worshippers of jehovah, they were considered as wicked ones that would soon be destroyed at armaggedon.
in school and later, at work, i tried to keep a safe distance from anyone not a witness.

Even though I rarely missed meetings and regularly went out in service,I was never invited to any of their social events. My son and I had no friends there. We did not see the love that Jesus said would identify his true disciples, only a bunch of gossiping,back-stabbing cliques. So I guess I was considered bad association by them but now I have real friends, not phony robot-like hypocrites.

What did you do with all of your old JW literature
by LyinEyes ini was wondering if any one has kept at least some of the books from the borg.
i have kept a few, mainly so i can have a good laugh now and then, and highlighting all the double talk.. what did you do with all your jw publications??
did you throw them away?.
-
dsgal
I kept most of the newer publications and gave the rest to Goodwill,a place I was told never to shop because the stuff from there might be demonized. It might be now.

NEW PUBLIC SPEAKERS COMING SOON?
by Deli King ini can remember sitting at the service meetings, listening to the announcements, hoping that someday we would get a letter from the wts stating that as of sept. 1, (anyyear) that qualified sisters would be giving public talks and conducting all other meetings.
in order to qualify they would have to be beautiful, weigh between 110- 120lbs, have a least a c-cup, free from accusation, a wife of one husband or single, free from accusation, .. .
feel free to add all and any qualifications you see fit to enhance your idea of a woman qualified to teach

I don't think women will ever be allowed to give a public talk...although they will be allowed to rule over the earth in heaven.Go figure.

I learned about the monarch butterfly in a recent issue of "Awake!" if you can call that putting the world on notice.

WT Attacks Being 'Easygoing' October,1,02 WT
by ISP inshould you be easygoing?
most people would probably feel that it is a compliment to be thought of as an easygoing person, one with a relaxed, placid, tolerant nature.
however, there is another side to easygoingness.

I have always been an easygoing person,so therefore,according to them,I am lazy,stupid and foolish.GOD FORGIVE ME,I KNOW NOT WHAT I DO !

How Do You Unwind?
by Scully inlately, i've found listening to my "simpsons" cds while i'm driving home from work to be very helpful in de-stressing.
they always make me laugh, and it's far less depressing than listening to the news on the radio while i'm driving.. i've also been known to have bubble baths by candle light with a good relaxing cd playing (i have one that's of thunderstorms which is one of my favorites).
glass of wine optional.

The only ones?
by funkyderek inyesterday i was approached by a man who offered me a free stress test.
i immediately recognised this as a scientology scam (ok, he was standing outside the scientology building) but it got me thinking.. ireland is a small country, and over 90 percent of the population are catholic.
most of the rest are anglican or presbyterian.

When I went out with a car group, they would not do door-to-door.All they would do is ride around placing magazines at homes where somebody had accepted the literature before. They hardly ever answered the door but they left the mags.stuck in the door anyway. They would also drive very slowly around to several washaterias and offices and leave mags. The rest of the morning would be spent at Mickey D's,their favorite hangout.I have lived in my present house for 3 years and have never been contacted by them. Not like when I was young and the pioneer sister I always went with wouldn't even let me stop for a drink of water.

Fear of the New World
by WildTurkey ini always had a fear as an active jw, that i would not like life in the new world that i would not like to be perfect.
to never make a mistake, that would mean you would never get to kiss and make up.
i would never get to watch a real football game, and porn would be completely out of the question.

I always wondered if there would be any antique shops, which is something I love to spend all day doing. From the pictures in the literature I get the impression I would be in some field all day working my @$$ off for food.I also use to hear some of the sisters talking about whether they would still have their washer and dryer.Wonder what they would do if they found out they were going to have to spend all day down at the "crick" scrubbing their husband's dirty underwear by hand?Has anybody else noticed there are no roads in the lit. pics?
