Do you think the GB ever mentions these abuse cases directly?
by thedepressedsoul inthe title says it all, do you think that the gb will ever bring up these cases in their literature or in a talk?
i'm not talking about them just mentioning "persecution" i'm talking about actually bringing up child abuse cases and trying to justify it.. or will it just remain the elephant in the room until years have passed?.

So long as you pass the NY State Bar you qualify. I knew one of the female lawyers who had been a temporary commuter Bethelite. When her status was revoked, she promptly went to law school and passed the bar so that she could be accepted as a full-time Bethelite. I believe she still commutes but her status now is permanent. To each his/her own.

Some Thoughts on Candace Conti/Oral Argument

The length of time it has taken from the final briefing to the scheduling of oral argument may be due to a couple of factors. In California, many of the courts are backed up due to budget cuts, layoffs and furloughs. Some courts are worse than others. I would not expect that the impact on the appellate courts would be as severe as on the lower courts. I would hope that the wait of over one year is more an indication that the appellate court’s research attorneys and the assigned justices have required this time to be adequately prepared--not for oral argument, which usually takes less than half an hour, but to render a just opinion. The stakes are high for all involved, including the Court.
In its Opening Appellants’ Brief, Watchtower raised the stakes by invoking constitutional issues to set up an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court should the California Court of Appeal render an unfavorable opinion. For my money, Rick Simons defeats this strategy effectively in his Respondent’s Brief. Additionally, there is no certainty that the U.S. Supreme Court would accept Watchtower’s case for consideration
Even a favorable opinion from the Court of Appeal may not be so favorable for Watchtower in the long run. A favorable opinion will inform those lawsuits waiting in the wings, especially the California lawsuits. Complaints can be amended and strategies revised.
Thanks to dear Candace, we are at a point where existing laws are for the first time being tested as to their application to Watchtower’s policies and policy implementation. An evolutionary process has begun that will involve many more cases to come and will likely take much time. In my opinion, this is just one more vital area where time is not on the side of Watchtower.

In reviewing the docket in this case I found two interesting aspects. First, Lopez requested an entry of default against Watchtower and the request was granted by the court. The judgment could have been triggered by this default. If it was, or why their default was entered, will only be known by reading the court papers. Second, Gerrit Loesch was subpoenaed to be deposed as Watchtower's person most qualified. He, as an "interested party," filed papers with the court in order to have the subpoena quashed so he wouldn't have to be deposed.
If I have some time over the weekend, I will download some of the documents related to these two issues for some more clarity. JWLeaks needs to jump on this one!

From what I can tell so far, this is not a settlement but a judgment. WT would not appeal a settlement but they do appeal adverse judgments. The coverage on San Diego 6 is very poor in this regard. Also, WT settlements are usually, if not always, confidential. Confidentiality is an important requirement of the settlements they enter into. Oviously, this is not confidential.
If you want to track this case and its history you can logon to the San Diego Superior Court website under Register of Actions. The case number is 37-2012-00099849. WT has hired the same appellate attorney who is representing them in the Candace Conti matter.

my first post! (long read sorry in advance)
by Letts Party inlong time lurker, first time poster here finally looking to get some things off my chest.
i've always been a very curious person with tons of questions about everything, and i also care deeply particularly about societal issues like social injustice, racism, and homophobia.
that, coupled with how boneheaded all the elders in my congregation are (except for one), led me to ask even more questions that led me to find ttatt.. .

Love your screen name. There's always a party going on in Lett's face. I'm optimistic that the good advice above and your well-functioning mind will win the day, as far as your wife is concerned. I've been on this road a little longer than you, and I can certainly recommend the journey. All the best.
