I wonder if there is a way to register to vote without anybody knowing.
by easyreader1970 inafter i have mentally fallen away from the wbts, i no longer feel that waiting for some sky god to do something is an appropriate response to dissatisfaction.
but since i am still in the organization in body, i can't really do anything openly.
i was in the library yesterday and i was tempted to register to vote but i am not sure if it can be done in a way that my wife could never find out.

She'd bring me before the local elders on charges of sedition.

Whats the Craziest thing you've heard a JW blame Satan for????
by superman inas most of you know, that evil spirit creature known as satan the devil is of course after jw's and only jw's.
i can remember this middle aged lady at my old hall give a comment on how "satan works in the most mysterious ways against jehovah's people, he even has the teachers give out more homework on meetings nights so that he can make it more difficult for the young ones to attend the meetings".
at that time i was hardcore in it, and even thought this lady is a "looney-tune".

When I graduated from high school and started working in the real world, young women would be attracted to me. They'd ask me out, call me on the phone, you know the normal things that eighteen year olds do. My mother would tell me that they were just tools of Satan. Wow, so they really didn't like me? It was all just a sham?

Did You Get To "Handle The Microphones"???
by minimus inwere you one of those deemed "qualifed for this privilege":??
?
-
easyreader1970
I first did that at the age of 13. That was pretty much my only "privilege" until I was 20 and I became a Ministerial Servant.
That's when the abuse started. I was the "assistant" to one book study conductor. After a while, he just stopped coming and the book study was in his name only. I was the conductor of it, though not on paper. That lasted about a year or so and then I was asked to be another's "assistant". The same thing happened there except that this elder would call me every Friday night before the Saturday morning study and say he couldn't make it. I had to call him and tell him to stop. That only frustrated me. I would just assume that he was not going to be there and so that became my study as well.
I also was HWIC (Head Witness In Charge) of the literature counter. I hated that job the most. Why? Because nobody wanted to follow the official rules when it came to special orders. Except for magazines and some books we normally kept in stock, everything else was special orders. If you didn't "special order" your calendar, yearly text, bound volume, or whatever YOU DIDN'T GET ONE.
"But at my old congregation, they ordered some for everybody."
This was always the excuse. That and "I didn't get my magazines." "Yes, you did." "No, I didn't." "Well, there aren't anymore."

Lying, cheating, being an ass, etc. Is it okay without God?
by easyreader1970 inone of the charges that religious people (christians) throw at atheists is that atheists have no moral code, no conscience.
they can do whatever they want when they want because they don't feel that they are accountable to anybody but themselves.
that's not what this topic is about.

One of the charges that religious people (Christians) throw at atheists is that atheists have no moral code, no conscience. They can do whatever they want when they want because they don't feel that they are accountable to anybody but themselves.
That's not what this topic is about.
Everyone here knows people who have gained an advantage over others in some way by doing things like cheating, lying, or just being a real jerk. This is on every level. Someone may lie on their taxes to get more money back from the government. Someone drives like an ass and causes others to miss traffic lights while they cruise on to their destination. Somebody cheats their way through college and ends up with a fantastic job they didn't earn.
You know these people. You might even be one of them.
Even before I was forced into the Truth by my mother at a young age, she'd pretty much trained my thinking that lying, cheating, stealing, etc are wrong. Period. But that was with the understanding that there was God to answer to or that there was some sort of cosmic karma in the universe. If that is not true, what really is the downside of doing those things? I don't mean being caught or going to prison or wrecking your car or the normal chance of consequence. What I mean is: What if there was 0% chance of being caught, what is then wrong with behaving this way?
If you knew for a fact that you could never be found out when you lied on your taxes, would you do it? If you knew for a fact that you could stab some fellow employees in the back for a better position with no backlash, would you do it? If you cut someone off in traffic just to get an edge and your car was indestructable, would you do it? Society (and laws of physics) have created downsides to engaging in certain activities but if these were far less likely, does that still make them less acceptable?

Some time back I bought my kid an old retro computer. It was from the early to mid eighties. He's into that sort of thing. Retro things are cool to him. I got it off of ebay fairly cheap and it was shipped with several old cartridge games as well.
One of the games was Ghostbusters. When it came I told the kid to go ahead and toss that one before his mother found out and killed us all and burned the house down.
A few months went by. Apparently he forgot to toss the game and it was in his sock drawer collecting lint. My wife found it. I am paraphrasing because I don't remember word for word what was said but it went something like this:
"What is THIS!?"
"What's what."
"This GAME. It says GHOSTBUSTERS! I can't BELIEVE this is in my HOUSE!"
"I asked him to throw it away. Apparently he forgot."
"Don't you know the DEMONS can get into your house from this being in your house?"
"Give it to me. I will throw it away."
"They might already even be here!"
"It's a piece of plastic. There are no demons in it. Why would demons be inside plastic?"
"Are you saying that the Society is wrong and that demons can't get into your house?"
"I'm saying that there are no demons in plastic."
My son starts laughing.
"You all can laugh if you want to. I don't want demons in the house."
She takes the cartridge out on the front porch and crushes it under her shoe on the concrete. Then she tosses it and comes back inside.
The boy is still laughing at his mother who has just behaved rather insanely.
Since I have apparently cast doubt upon the Watchtower, she goes off in a huff. Probably to pray for me that I am not destroyed.

What Is Your Present Status In The Organization?
by minimus inare you disfellowshipped?
disassociated?
a fader?

easyreader1970
Sadly, I still go to just about every meeting. In the mind, I checked out of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society some time ago. I still go because my wife is a hardcore Witness warrior and we have children together so I don't want to see that busted all to pieces. I don't participate very much if at all, I never wear a jacket to the meetings (gasp!), and I usually average about ninety minutes per month in the field service, though I usually lie and say that I got five or six hours just to keep from being hassled. As soon as the Amen is said on the final prayer, I am out of my seat and in the car waiting for the wife and kids. She hates this and she says it sets a horrible example for the children. Imagine if she knew what I was really thinking.

Should I try internet dating? Does it work?
by Witness 007 insoon i will be seperated and although i will have a break from women i thought about dating web-sites......i don't know how else to do it..
-
easyreader1970
I don't think that internet dating is any worse than traditional dating. I have heard wonderful stories about it and I have heard horror stories. The same stories you would hear from people who meet people in grocery stores and in night clubs.
The only recommendation that I would make is not to let the online part of your relationships go on too long without actually meeting the individual in person once or twice.

What does the bible really teach ....
by heathen ingot a copy and been reading it , the first chapter about how god doesn't like human suffering nor causes any of it seems like a fallacy to me .there are plenty of accounts where he personally killed allot of people , noahs ark , moses and pharoah ,it's pretty obvious that god likes to play god and the new testament says he will cause allot more suffering against his enemies .
anybody else with an opinion?

I prefer to find useful metaphors in the Bible, not to view it as the indisputable Word of God. I don't think that it is. I am not sure if there is a Higher Being or not, but if there is I am pretty sure he didn't have anything to do with the Biblical text. It does not in any way make logical sense. It's quite clearly written to be used as a thought/action control device and that is exactly what it is being used for. There are some redeeming stories, passages, and verses there that are useful but to believe in a God that has repeated temper tantrums and throws his blocks all over the playroom floor every time something doesn't go the way he wants it ... That's crazy.
