er.
i won't go into the article as a whole because it's discussed in another topic here.
but i truly despise the way that the watchtower tries to guilt or frighten people into going out in field service.
not only will jehovah kill that person (unfairly) if you don't preach to them, but he'll kill you too!.

It seems to me that it would be more effective to encourage people using some positive means instead of threatening them with execution.
Everyone seems to think it's okay that a deity would be so spiteful.

.
The Mayans seemed to think that this was the appropriate time. I figure their guess is no less likely than the JW's wrong predictions in the past.
I found this interesting (taken from wikipedia)
A baktun is 20 katun cycles of the ancient Maya Long Count Calendar. It contains 144,000 days or 400 tuns or nearly 400 tropical years. The Classic period of Maya civilization occurred during the 8th and 9th baktuns of the current calendrical cycle. The current (12th) baktun will end, or be completed, on 13.0.0.0.0 (December 21, 2012 using the GMT correlation). This also marks the beginning of the 13th baktun, as such a term is usually used among Mayanists.
I am surprised that the Witnesses aren't all over this, what with the Mayan's also using the number 144,000 and the WBTS always trying to justify it ...

just curious.... did the disallusionment of j.w.
experience make you hate god or disbelieve everything about god?
could it be god's grace that kept you from or freed you from their hold on you?
I consider myself to be somewhat of an agnostic at this point. I know that there are some people out there who will say that there is no gray area between theist and atheist but I disagree. In my mind, there is always a gray area. Nothing is black or white. Well except maybe pregnancy, death, and most mathematics.
I believe that the Bible is inspired in the same way that I think a song or poem is inspired. A God didn't write it or have a hand in writing it, but the people who wrote it may have been thinking about God during certain portions of it. Much of it, however, I think was written as a method to control people, especially the war tribes of the Old Testament text.
The New Testament doesn't make any sense to me at all. It's almost like a sequel to a movie but the main actors were replaced with new ones. And then they include some fan service by making occasional references to Hebrew texts.
I do not believe that a deity would have made "the Truth" as confusing and puzzling as the Bible is. I think that if it really was the word of God, anybody could understand it. You wouldn't have to have men to make it make sense, an Organization. Why would God need both? If all he needs is the Organization, then why have the Bible? If the Bible is what people need, why would you then need someone to tell you what it means?
Further, I refuse to believe that a deity would choose to allow his creations to suffer cruelly, brutally, and violently just to prove a point to some other spirit creatures standing around watching. And yet he loves us. Does not compute.

is the wbts under the assumption that householders will suspect that witnesses charge money for their bible studies?
as often as the wbts prints that the world is fully aware of the witnesses and what they do and teach, i can't imagine that anybody would think that the jws ask for payment for services when it comes to bible studies.
it was in the watchtower study yesterday, i think in the very first paragraph.

i did the full time min from school even though i could have gone to drama school.what a wast of my time and life!!!!!!!!!!!!
!iam happy to say that i came to my senses and went back to school and became a nurse, very happy i did my wife is still a jw but she stopped the pioing and she to became a nurse.. i will make sure my kids dont get temped to be encouraged to do that wast of time.as the wife still goes, and my mom and dad and sisters still go.. anyway would love to know what others who were pioneers felt of it and what doing now, please tell..
The highest number of hours I ever put in was 22. This was more than twenty years ago.
I worked with a pioneer sister and one of my friends. I realized then what a sham (and a shame) pioneering was. You spent very little time talking to anyone but you made sure to at least stop at a gas station every so often in order to "keep the time running".
Why in the hell is this important to Christian ministry at all? It's not like you're driving a cab. It was at that point that I couldn't understand the logic behind keeping numbers on JWs, other than to pigeon-hole them as being "strong" or "weak".
If I spend two hours having two meaningful, spiritual conversations about the Jehovah deity and that is all I did for the month, why is that of less value than the person who spends 10 hours but doesn't talk to a single person?

many people flee to the wbts because of all of the negativity in the world, perceived or real.
"the world is going to hell in a handbasket" is the general belief of most witnesses, especially those who are of middle to low income and have to deal with the unpleasantness of things a little bit more than the well-to-do witnesses who may have their paradise right now.
anyway, something spurred me to check statistics.

Anyway, something spurred me to check statistics. It's no secret to anyone that crime in the United States exploded after drugs came on the scene, specifically cocaine and later crack. The eighties and nineties were horror stories.
However, many crimes are on the decline. What is more shocking than I might have guessed, though, is that the murder rate is dropping and is almost as low now as it was in 1960 (as of 2006).
Here is the data I reviewed:

then in 1982 i progressed to a clone of an apple 2 with 16k of memory which i incresed to 48k, a floopy drive for that apple cost me $600 !!!
.. in approx 1987 i got an ibm xt 640megs with a 20meg hard drive..it was like a dream .
Wow. It was an Atari 400 back in something like 1983, I think.
