Banned from my sisters wedding
by LunaFing ini'm feeling rejected and hurt because i've just been informed that i am not invited to my little sisters wedding.
first, here's a little background story on my relationship with her: she and i are three years apart.
when we were younger we were very close (i was in the "truth" back then).

I am so sorry to hear that, LunaFing. The cult can be hard to deal with, can't it?
I'm not DF'd, but my family has shunned me since I came out three years ago. I expected that my brother wouldn't choose to invite me to his wedding last weekend, but he did! I wasn't invited to the reception, though, even after I pointed out that my (former) best friend's DF'd brother-in-law came to my friend's wedding AND reception. -

That's so sad; Estelle Getty was my favourite actress on the show. I always appreciated Sophia's biting sarcasm. I recently got the entire series on DVD for my partner for his birthday, and we watched a bunch of episodes on the weekend. Here are a couple of my favourite Sophia quotes:
* * *
Blanche: I don't really mind Clayton being homosexual, I just don't like him dating men.
Dorothy: You really haven't grasped the concept of this "gay thing" yet, have you, Blanche?
Blanche: Well there must be homosexuals who date women.
Sophia: Yeah. They're called lesbians.
* * *
Sophia: If I met a man who was over seventy but still looked half-way decent, I'd be on my back faster than you could say, "I've fallen and I can't get up!" -

I faded shortly after moving to a new town; most of the Dubs here are still polite to me when I bump into them, some are downright friendly.
It's a bit different with those from my hometown, though; they usually pretend they don't see me, even when I directly acknowledge them. I expected that reaction when I went to my brother's wedding on the weekend, but I got smiles from several and had a nice chat with my bro's groomsman, who I expected would also shun me. And I had great conversations with a couple of cousins, even after introducing my partner (I'm gay) to them. One of my sisters and her husband were pretty nasty when I came out a few years ago, but they were warm and welcoming, too. I guess you just never know, do you? -

John says: Your children will be killed and eaten by vultures!
by easyreader1970 inso we had our book study last night.
we are nearing the end of the insane revelation book.
you know, the one that the watchtower says is 100% symbolic except for that bit about the 144,000 chosen ones?

Lady Zombie, I didn't get baptized because I wanted to, either. May parents told me that because my sisters were baptized before they had a TV in their bedroom that I would have to get baptized before I could have a TV in mine. Naturally, I did what any 16-year-old would do and took the plunge. Biggest mistake I ever made.

4 the Faders. How did u get out leading the cong in prayer while fading?
by blkblk13 ini've always had serious doubts but now that i am @ a point in my life were my parents have helped me to purchase my first place and now that i am no longer under their wing i feel like i am in a position to start doing something about it.
nothing drastic but just the beginnings of a gradual fade b/c i don't want to humiliate them in the circuit b/c they r very well-known and admired in the circuit, plus i owe them alot and am still a little financially dependent on them.
so my dad is an elder and conducts the bookstudy.

I was dating my partner for 2.5 years while still living with my parents and going to meetings. Despite low service hours (6 to 10 a month, a few of those fake), I was asked to pray at the BS and the TMS and SM. I kept them pretty generic; I'm not sure how nobody noticed. I always tried to come up with something to make my prayer sound unique, so that my prayers became, "Generic, generic, point from meeting, generic." I hated every minute of it!

Your most memorable Kingdom Hall meeting disruptions!
by easyreader1970 ini remember about twenty years ago some teenagers were caught fornicating in one of the additional schools.
the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.
they weren't just happened upon, though.

You don't know how great this thread is for me today! I'm a bit down because I just found out that I'm invited to my brother's wedding but not the reception in July; it will be my first time in a Kingdumb Hell in four years. This thread was a great pick-me-up. I guess laughter really is the best medicine!
To keep this post on topic, my grandma had an incident with her skirt at one meeting. I was beside her and as we stood up to sing the song between the TMS and SM, her skirt fell down. She was wearing a slip, fortunately. I just rolled my eyes and kept singing (I was a bit of a stoic in my teens); I think only the family in the row behind us noticed, they laughed through the first verse or so.
