Is Jdubs practice of Teenage baptism really any better than Infant Baptism?
by blkblk13 inso i was thinking the other day about how the jdubs always mock the catholics for baptizing infants who can't make a true commitment to god so the sybol of dedication is empty.
well, as anyone who's been in the org knows there is a culture of pressuring teenagers to get baptized.
if u r over 12yo it is a question that is constantly asked.

So I was thinking the other day about how the Jdubs always mock the Catholics for baptizing infants who can't make a true commitment to God so the sybol of dedication is empty. Well, as anyone who's been in the Org knows there is a culture of pressuring teenagers to get baptized. If u r over 12yo it is a question that is constantly asked. "Why aren't u baptized? When r u getting baptized?" U r made to feel inferior like a low acheiver or spiritually weak. For those who haven't been in the Org you can liken it to how someone would feel if they were a Senior in Highschool and for some reason they failed the 12th grade and people are constantly asking them why there never graduated. That's how unbaptized witness teenagers are often made to feel and r viewed.
But should teenagers really be expected to make a lifelong decision @ such and early age? If I recall correctly Jesus wasn't baptized untill he was like 30 right? So if the Son of God was not in any rush to be baptized untill well into adulthood and was not pressured to be baptized as teenager then why the rush for witness kids? Doesn't it seem like this practice is contrary to the precedent set forth in the scriptures?

Do you get upset when people don't believe that same way you do?
by loosie inis it a normal reaction to get mad when you talk to someone who doesn't believe that way you do?.
the reason i ask is that i don't believe in the most common christianity.
when i come across a person and they ask how i feel about something and i tell them how i feel.

4 me is depends on what the topic is. Religion or relationships don't get me very angry. Race and sexuality do though. There's nothing that can piss me off more than some bigot that wants tell me I'm inferior b/c of my race or b/c Im gay. Surprisingly it seems like there are more and more of those kinds of bigots popping up online recently, so Ive been increasingly p.o. lately. lol.
Politics can also get me hot under the collar. Ive gotten into some near fistfights w/ Republicans. Then they find out Im a J-dub and I don't vote anyway which leaves them quite confused.
I think historically Christianity is a very insecure religion. Incapable of the live and let live mentality of say, Buddhist. Many Christians rimmediately threatened by beliefs contrary to their own. I think this stems from the common Christian teaching that anything not found in the bible, or that doesn't agree w/ that denomination's interpretation of scripture, originates from the devil. Therefore, when Christians r confronted w/ new age ideas or things simply different they go into this "Holy War" mode which is just a defense mechanism to fight the devil. Underlying it all is fear.

Have you ever caught Elders in compromising situations?
by Cheetos ini ran into two of them at a (r) rated violent movie during a very boring assembly once, i knew them and they knew me i didn't give a dam and they knew it, they seen me go out and i seen them go out of the theate so we were all even and grinning all the way back to events center.

Well, I don't know if this counts cuz I didnt catch him but I had a friend who's mother was a witness and he was one of those kinds of Jdub kids who never gets baptized and does whatever they want and still hangs out w/ witness kids- extactly what I should have done. But I digress, he went to a local strip club and saw one of our elders in the Congo. there. The guy supposedly had sunglasses on indoors and a baseball cap pulled down really low 2 b incog. Unfortch, for him he sold cars for a living and had a very recognizable car @ the time. My friend saw it in the parking a lot and immediately started scanning the premesis for the Elder. My friend approached him and he was visibly uncomfortable but he didn't leave and they ended up chatting and he bought my friend a beer. Even though my friend was 18yo @ the time. lol.

could jw's prove their beliefs without watchtower literature?
by atpeace ini was pondering this question today.
i thought it might be an interesting tactic to use with my family.
if i simply asked that they prove all beliefs by the bible alone.. growing up - every time discipline or counsel was given - it was based on getting out the bound volumes.

I think that most wouldn't be able 2. For 2 reasons. 1 they are basically trained not to. The society demands use of it's bible "supplements" even when doing personal study. Witnesses r also encouraged to keep their reasoning books handy to explain their beliefs, which becomes a crutch 2. Many of Jdubs beliefs are no more than WBTS interpretation and opinions made law. Where in the bible can one point to that references pornea or the practice of women covering their heads if they lead a group in prayer and no man is present or jdubs being required to report field service time, or only allowing the governing body to interpret scripture w/ out consulting the thousands of other annointed who r supposedlu going to serve equally as kings and priests w/ them in heavan or accepting some types of treatments using blood but not others. The list goes on and on.
There r some die-hard pioneers out there who can probably defend straight from the bible but thats only b/c these doctrines have been drilled into their heads. I think the bigger question is would most witnesses ever have been able to glean these "truths" from bible passages unless they were told by the watchtower what to believe? I dont think most people could have possibly, on their own, come to the conclusions that they now accepts as fact since the society tells them to.

Was everyone really vegeterian pre-flood?
by blkblk13 inok it's late and im bored and this might ramble a bit but i got to thinking, the wbts always proposes that everyone, b/f god gave noah permission to eat meat, was vegeterian.
witnesses always talk about how in the new system we will all go back to being vegeterian since i think in isaiah it says the the lion or wolf will graze and eat grass like the lamb or something and it was never gods plan for us to eat meat.. this doesn't sound right to me.
why would god make animals begin to eat each other if it was not according to his plan?

Ok it's late and Im bored and this might ramble a bit but I got to thinking, The WBTS always proposes that everyone, b/f God gave Noah permission to eat meat, was vegeterian. Witnesses always talk about how in the New System we will all go back to being vegeterian since I think in Isaiah it says the the lion or wolf will graze and eat grass like the lamb or something and it was never Gods plan for us to eat meat.
This doesn't sound right to me. Why would God make animals begin to eat each other if it was not according to his plan? If all the nutrients that the animals needed could be consumed soley through plants b/f the flood how would that change after the flood. Some might say the world was perfect b/f Adam's sin so now the animals needed suplemental nutrition now that they were no longer in the garden of Eden, but for one imperfection was only passed down to humans b/c only humans had sinned. Animals r not imperfect and plants and vegetation certainly are not. Recently, plants and animals have suffered b/c of man-made pollution which makes them deformed and stuff but the industrial age was long after the flood so it stands to reason that both plants and animals were being produced @ the same level of quality that they existed @ in the garden of Eden. Second, the flood was centuries I think actually millenea after Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden of eden so if animals and humans could exist for thousands of years on a strictly vegan diet after the fall of the garden of Eden why couldn't they continue existing that way after the flood? What changed? Some might say that the flood caused all of the vegetation to die so they would have had nothing to eat. Well, what did all the herbivores on the Ark eat during the days immediately after the flood. If there was enough vegetation for some animals, who continued to exist down to this day as herbivores, to survive why wasn't there enough vegetation for the rest of the animals that became carnivores and omnivores to survive? Why did their dietary requirements all of a sudden necesitate the use of meat?
Another strange thing to me is that the bible says god took a rest on the 7th day. This is interpreted as a rest from his creative works. The WBTS says that he has not created anything since. Well, if he hasn't created anything since how did all the predators in the world get sharp teeth and fangs. If they were strictly on vegan diets wouldn't they have had large flat molars like bovines and horses and other grazing animals? How did the snake get his fangs, venom, and a detachable jaw? What would he have used those things for in the Garden of Eden? Paralyzing and then swallowing whole watermelons? Why would insects all of a sudden need to hunt and kill each other? Why would ants be given poisen stingers and instinct to work in groups to subdue prey 1000s of times larger than themselves?
And the explanation has always been that humans and animals needed extra nutrients that only meat could provide (which is queer because present day vegans have shown that a very healthy, albiet @ times extremely pale, skinny and sallow, existence can be had w/out any incorporation of animal based products in one's diet), but WHY IN THE HELL DOES THE VENUS FLYTRAP EXIST? The existance of this plant defys all explanations given in my mind. I mean it eats insect and has a very complex way of attracting, consuming and digesting them. Why would this plant or how could this plant have existed in the garden of Eden? Why would one plant require the consumption of other life forms when the rest of the plant kingdom is perfectly fine w/ getting nutrients from the soil and through photosynthesis. And if God gave the Venus Flytap the ability to do this after the flood than how the heck does that not count as an act of creation? If God basically reworked all carnivorous and omnivorous creatures from being herbivores to their present state how can the WBTS say that he rested on the 7th day and has rested since?
Ok I got that all out and Im not even going to ask that u read this but now I think I can go to sleep. I know that Im going to read this in the morning..well later in the morning and none of it will make any sense but I just had to get it out. thanx.

Any other gays?
by dwtnphotog inhi, just wanted to see if i have any "brothers" in the great state of california or anywhere for that matter.
it would be nice to have some support and help for each other!

No actually, the gay world has really been kicking my ass these last couple years, so I don't think it's gonna work out for me. I'm not a big fan of the vag but women seem 2 know how to have relationships better than gay men. So, I fig maybe I should give chicks a shot.

What if they are about to "close the ark door"?
by Mickey mouse inwe know the book study is about to be cut.
i am reading talk here of the preaching work being declared "over" and possible changes in disfellowshipping policy.. we know the wbts is running low on funds.
they don't make money from the literature and the new recruits are going straight back out of the revolving door.

Im confused by this talk of the Org hemoraging funds or whatever. On one hand reports have come out as recently as last year that the WTBTS is a billion $ company. I know they have settled out of court a few times but usually when someone settles it's only for a few million. Nothing 2 break the bank when u have access to over a billion. Is there something Im missing? Even if that billion $ figure is networth including real estate holdings we know that could be easily liquidated espec in NY. Where does this idea that the Society is in dire financial straits come from?

Your most memorable Kingdom Hall meeting disruptions!
by easyreader1970 ini remember about twenty years ago some teenagers were caught fornicating in one of the additional schools.
the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.
they weren't just happened upon, though.

And there was this one family who had this old station wagon that was really broke down and beat up. Everything was falling apart and the brakelights didn't work so they had these to red lights connected to the top it was just a mess. But our KH was on top of a hill and there was a drop off on two sides of the parking lot and it was surrounded by a chainlink fence. One of the dropoffs there was a street below on the other drop off there was someone's backyard w/ a pool. The family came to the Kingdom hall and he was parking and when he went to stop the brakes went out and he kept going (this was the drop off w/ the pool below but it was winter so it was empty, and we're talking about easily 30 feet straight down) and he took out the concrete parking curb thing and went through the fence and was basically tettering on the edge. they had to climb out back through the trunk of the station wagon to get out. lol.
