This is my name, I was a witness, and this is why I will never be again.
by wanderlustguy inthanks to this site, not only am i free of the mental imprisonment, but i am also free of the fear that the society used to keep me and others like me silent.. i am not a witness anymore because the truth is not what we are directred to think it is.
once we allow ourselves to think, it is clear as day that there is no real basis for anyone to take the title of faithful and discreet slave.
there are folders and lists which contain the names of pedophiles who were never turned over to the proper authorities for their crimes.

What does your congregation do socially now?
by truthseeker inif you're still in or hear about jw social activities through the grapevine, what does your congregation do now socially?.
my hall does absolutely - nothing - with the exception of high school graduations.
i read a few posts about jw socialising in the 70s and 80s and honestly, reading about it is completely foreign to me - i grew up in the 80s and never experienced the "good times" of jwdom.. it seems most people do their own thing.

Hold them accountable but with human decency
by milligal inrecently i wrote, and re-wrote (and re-wrote and...you get the picture) a letter to my entire family 8 living siblings, 5 of them jw and my witness parents one of whom believes himself to be anointed.
before sending it i asked my older sister who is also df'd like me, to critique it.
she decided that she would like to add her name to the letter also, a little more bang for the buck coming from two of us.

Do JWs miss having large parties, pot-lucks, etc?
by navytownroger inas has been stated before, large congregational get-togethers, cook-outs, baseball games, etc are now greatly discouraged by the society.
back in the 80s in san diego we had parties, night-time beach bonfires, pool parties and frequent restaurant meals with 10+ people.
do current jws seem to miss these sorts of social activities??

Are active JW's seeing the light?
by boyzone ini ask this because i had a strange experience this week.
for a brief bit of background knowledge i'm being shunned like most on here, but i see witnesses every day in my place of work and at the school gate, there's no avoiding them, and like many of you, i've found it really hard to get over the hurt and heartache this has caused.. yesterday my mum (an active witness) went into hospital to have a tumor removed (successfully) as i'm the only daughter nearby to help, the other witnesses were asking the elders what they were supposed to do if they wanted to visit my mum and i was at her bedside, should they talk to me or turn round and go out again.. one elder said to do that would be utterly ridiculous, of course i should be spoken to.
he was very annoyed even at the suggestion.

Surprise,surprise !
by frisbee inhi guys.
am a relative newbee and still a member of the borg, two weeks ago had 2 elders visit ostensibly to shepherd/correct me for sharing some personal study viewpoints which they heard had upset a bro and sis who had not bothered to contact me in the spirit of matt 18 although according to one of the elders this is one of the most abused scriptures in the bible , the r&f spillling the beans on each other to the boe and the elders listening to any hearsay and then confronting brothers, any experiences ?
also i had been seen visiting my dfd daughter and son in law ( also posters here ) this resulted in my having some basic priveledges removed, assembly attendant, pioneer, regional bc helper.. i wrote a letter of concern and copied to our co who took the time to visit me and in the presence of the elders agreed that their decision was technically wrong and not a demonstration of kindness , also that my relationship with my family was not one for a general judgement but was between my conscience and jehovah, the time i might spend with them was my affair and only if stumbling was to occur within the cong might it be flagged up for further counsel.

Emotional Reactions to the Loss of the Book Study
by DT ini think the loss of the book study will hit some like a death of a friend.
it will mark the end of an era.
it will forever change the religion of jehovah's witnesses and i believe the change is completely irreversible.. of course, most witnesses will be delighted by this.
