Anybody ever read any really thick books?
by JimmyPage inanybody ever read any really thick books?

I'm always reading thick books. I can't seem to pick up a book unless it's 500 - 800+ pages. Shogun by James Clavell is excellent. I also read James Michener and many more authors, old or new. I love historical fiction. It gives you a feel for a different time and place.

Don't understand a WT teaching? It's probably not important anyway:
by easyreader1970 infrom august 1, 1980 wt:.
is some point we have trouble in understanding really important?
does it affect the truly important things we have learned with the help of the "slave" class?

I can't believe I didn't recognize their rubbish years ago.
Does it affect the truly important things we have learned with the help of the "slave" class?
They don't have the decency to write "Does is affect the truly important things we have learned from God's Word?" Yet again, they've put the slave class on God's level. Sickening.

What do you know you know?
by zensim ini have been inspired to ask this question by narkissos' thread: "is 'consciousness' overrated?
" (et al).. whilst my question is primarily directed to you nark, i want to open this up to everyone else also.. nark - from your opening ramblings (and i mean that in the most endearing way) on "is 'consciousness' overrated?
", and from other recent posts, i get the feeling that you are asking these questions because you know something and you are trying to grasp onto what you know.

I know that everything that was once so simple has now become complicated but I'm starting to accept that I will be okay. I know I will be enjoying the here and now and not concentrating on the things unseen. I know I have a lot to learn but that is exciting and refreshing at times.

JW's-mearly shells of human beings-Won't attend High School Graduation
by Thechickennest inour daughter is graduating from high school in a couple of weeks.
my wife and i resigned from the congregation five years ago.
we have not attended meetings since my daughter was in the third grade.

Chickennest, I realized how selfish the JW's were early on in my life and it still bugs me to this day. They don't seem to recognize anything as special or wish to acknowledge any accomplishments. If any of your relatives considered for a moment of coming to your daughter's graduation, then it was quickly stifled with the fear of stumbling someone else in the congregation. Your daugter deserves a huge WELL DONE!

An apostate experiment - what would happen?
by slimboyfat inwhat would happen if a copy of crisis of conscience and a short well-written covering letter were sent to every single jehovah's witness worldwide?
i realise this is not practical and probably dubious morally, but that is not the point of my question.
call it a thought experiment if you will.

Slim, I'd love for lots of people to see Crisis but they'd never read it. I myself would never have dreamed that I'd be on this site 6 mos. ago. Just from reading experiences on here and in discussions with my mom and in-laws, I can see how each one reacts differently to information. I suspect that my father-in-law (an elder) knows more about what's wrong with the WTS than he lets on. But I'd still be surprised if he ever leaves it. Just as each individual has reasons that attracted them to the org., they have very personal reasons for leaving it too. Crisis shows lots of flip-flops and bad decisions but the average witness would probably still dismiss it as imperfection. I don't think they'd see the bigger issue of how wrong things are. That's IF they even read more than a few pages.

How did you find JWD?
by sweet pea inprompted by the thread about jwd v wts i wondered how many of you found jwd via the internet or friends/partners?
what were your first impressions?
i found this site through besty (husband) once my faith had crumbled after reading www.jwfacts.com.

Sweetpea, I was sort of aware of the website for a while, but my hubby (Missinglink) suggested that I take a look. I think a lot of witnesses are aware of the website but would never dream of checking it out. I seem to remember them making quite clear which websites are JW approved. I can't remember if they went as far as to say Jehovahs-witness.com on the platform but there was discussion somewhere at sometime because my mom actually mentioned it to me recently. I'd discussed some of my issues with the WTS and said I was finding lies in doing research. She asked me if I was going on to websites "because there's one called jehovahs-witness.com that's an apostate website." Those are her words. She's 65 and does not use a computer or know much about the internet but she knows that this site exists.

"Tower of Deception"---a new book just out!
by winnower inthis seems to be a new book recently released.
has anyone seen or read this?
could we have a review, please?.

thanks for the link, Jamie. The desciption of the book made me smile:
"The Tower of Deception is his response to the Watchtower’s invitation for “careful and critical examination of its contents in the light of the Scriptures” (Watchtower 8/15/1950, p. 263)"
Is this the only invite they've made to be examined against the scriptures? And what about the author - Is he just finding the invite or is he just getting around to responding?

Satan overkill
by Switch ini remember in my teen years thinking about the constant warnings of satan "transforming himself into an angel of light" and wondering how in the world did i stand a chance against a demon?!
a demon thats had thousands of years to suss things out and trick people in various different ways without them even knowing.
he led angels to rebellion.

Exactly, Unfree. Only this year I've started to realize how much they've been stressing Satan and his influence in the publications. I know they've discussed it on a regular basis since I was young but is it getting to be more frequent??? Maybe it's my imagination. I can only take the articles in limited amounts these days cuz the negativity gets to me.
