Just had my 4th annual Cookie Exchange with my neighbor friends. For about 20+ years I would wave hello to my neighbors but hardly talk to them, I was usually too busy. They knew I was JW and they were always tolerant, always nice to us. Since leaving the JW's I have made a point to get acquainted with them. We live at the very end of a dead end street and there are about 20 houses on our street. So this year there were 7 of us and I had some simple foods and beverage and we had some great conversation. They always ask questions about my ex religion. I tell them what I can but of course it's hard for them to understand completely. I let them know it's a cult. So it's interesting, but then we talk about other things too and then we trade up our cookies. Having this tradition has given me an excuse to do a little decorating too. I'll probably never go overboard with Christmas but it's fun to join in a bit.
This year I made Biscotti and Torrone, an Italian candy.
Anyone else start a Christmas Tradition?
"we should be mindful".

"is that toy magic?".
Ldrnomo's granddaughter (and mine) has learned at 5 years old to live a double life. She knows she can't have a birthday party so she celebrates birthdays for her little stuffed pets. She gets me to help her decorate and engage with her. I don't use the word birthday but she knows it's safe here and she can play out her needs. I told her parents that we don't encourage or discourage (maybe a little :) there beliefs so when she asks us: Grama do you like Halloween, Christmas etc. I tell her I don't mind them.
The other day when we picked her up from school and brought her to our house we were playing in her cute little playroom under the steps. She was using a new electronic toy that her parents just got for her. She wanted to click on the ghost but said "I better not press that one", I said nothing. She held her ground for about a minute but then went for it then said "uh-oh I made Jehovah sad". I couldn't let her think that so I said "He'll get over it". That seemed to satisfy her.
last night the folks on the weather channell were referring to our rainstorm as "the mess in the west.
" they always have to have a catch phrase, don't they.
i understand oregon is getting dumped on, up to a foot of rain in some areas, but we're closer to the southern end of the storm and they say we're just getting a few inches.. anway, isn't rain glorious?
It's shining now!
Forget those national weather forcasts that make it seem like it always rains in the NW, sometimes the clouds get hung up in the mountains and there are two mountain ranges so here in the middle Sound area it can be quite nice. Still, it does rain here.

After a brief 15 minute shower the clouds are even higher and there is more blue sky. I predict the sun will shine within 15 more minutes. yay.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. It has been raining a lot but I love what the weather people out here call "sun breaks". One is trying to come on now. It rained last night and now the clouds are high and moving north (kind of unusual) and there are patches of blue here and there. I predict some "sun breaks" today.
they had book bags strapped to their shoulders.
they watched me as i turned my car around and i think they might have thought that i was going to clip them.
the younger 20 something year old man, raised his hand to acknowledge me as if to say, "hi and thanks for not hitting us".. they continued their s l o w "pioneer shuffle" and i went my merry way..
Over the summer two sisters came to the door asking if i knew of any Philippino families living in the neighborhood. Caught me off guard, I wish I could have said something meaningful to them. I just gave them a smile like they were nuts and shook my head. That was a first. I didn't even know of any Philippino congregation around here.
