"the mess in the west"

Last night the folks on the Weather Channell were referring to our rainstorm as "the mess in the west." They always have to have a catch phrase, don't they. I understand Oregon is getting dumped on, up to a foot of rain in some areas, but we're closer to the southern end of the storm and they say we're just getting a few inches.

Anway, isn't rain glorious? It's a California thing to get out in the car and drive in the rain. Hot cup of coffee in the hand, rain pounding like hell on the roof of the car, windshield wipers going ninety to the dozen, cursing out-of-staters who don't know how to drive in rain. Yep. Good times.

Out-of-staters? It's the In-staters I'm more worried about. A little bit of rain and everyone losses their collective minds.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. It has been raining a lot but I love what the weather people out here call "sun breaks". One is trying to come on now. It rained last night and now the clouds are high and moving north (kind of unusual) and there are patches of blue here and there. I predict some "sun breaks" today.

    Mrs. Jones - LOL

We always used to joke down in San Diego that it was the visitors who didn't know how to drive in the rain, not us Californians! Of course, really the opposite was true. It rained so seldom in San Diego that driving in the rain could be a dangerous experience - people couldn't seem to get the concept that you have to slow down just a bit when it's raining! Still, driving in the rain is one of my favorite things.

After a brief 15 minute shower the clouds are even higher and there is more blue sky. I predict the sun will shine within 15 more minutes. yay.

No sun down here. It's overcast with darkening clouds and an increasing wind. Forecasters say the rain will come soon, stronger than yesterday's storm.

    It's shining now!

Forget those national weather forcasts that make it seem like it always rains in the NW, sometimes the clouds get hung up in the mountains and there are two mountain ranges so here in the middle Sound area it can be quite nice. Still, it does rain here.

We've had heavy rain all day and the power went out for a few hours. A friend came by and we went for a joy ride in the rain. Heavy heavy rain, big puddles, gusts of strong wind. We drove to the next town where they still had power and had some drive-through cuisine. Sat for a while and watched the big rigs deal with the rain.

Power is back on, rain is still coming down pretty hard. Altogether a wonderful day. I'm way north of you, Mrs. Jones, almost at Oregon on highway 5. It's supposed to rain this hard tomorrow too. We need snow more, but this heavy rain is great while it lasts. I hope it means we'll get plenty of snow this winter. It's very sad to see how low the water is in Shasta Lake and Lake Siskiyou.

Pretty country up there. It's been almost 19 years since I've been up that way on Hwy 5.

I love the clouds and the rain. It doesn't rain like it used to when I grew up out here. It was more of a hard drizzle that would go on for days. It rains a lot harder now in shorter time.
