Matt, I do not mean to be evasive about sharing scriptures, but I will tell you that their decision will probably be based on how it will be perceived in the local congregation. There are liberal and conservative elder bodies in the JW organization. While they could not counsel the parents they could give them attitude. This is inline with all the cultish references you will read on this site. You are probably a great friend since you care, but you will create far less turmoil if you do not involve yourself in your friends situation. The less stirring of the pot the better chance of your friend having a future relationship with his in-laws. And learn from his mistake. He is really screwed if she decides she wants back in in a couple years. His life will suck.

Looking for some help about marriage
by Matt_fs inhope this isnt a repost, couldnt find anything on the subject.. have a friend who is marrying a jw.
he isn't a jw but she is (even though she doesnt really go or believe in it), her parents are strict jw's but wont goto their wedding cause of something about being unevenly yoked?
now they both want her parents to go, but the parents tend to think they are not allowed to go.

MythBusting..."Six lines of evidence of the end"... A@G's comments
by Awakened at Gilead ini remember studying this article in the year 2000, and i think that this was the 1st time that i found something hard to swallow in the wts teachings... it just seemed like circular reasoning to me.
did anyone have the same feeling when they studied this article?
let's see if we can debunk these myths.... .

I guess you got me going on this one- Point 3- How long will it be before"New Light" is identified and the 8th King is identified as someone else? I also cannot wait until the King of the North and King of the South has a "new" identity. Do you think these identifications will change in the near future?

A@G- The sixth point is one that always irritated me. The number identified at Rev.7:4 is clearly 144,000 in any translation a person wishes to reference. This is a point that JW's take literally and falsely claim the number is decreasing. Your myth debunking is accurate especially as it appears that a whole new wave has partaken this year (I even wonder if they will release an accurate number or fudge it) . I believe the myth debunking should regress back to the scripture in Revelation which identifies these anointed ones being out the 12 tribes of Israel. Why is the number literal and the identification of those chosen figurative? I have never heard a logical explanation for this. What I have concluded is that my own opinion ( which is irrelevant) holds as much weight as the JW opinion. Factor this with your other myths and it is easy to see why a JW who truly tests what he has learned will eventually need to get out the false religion known as Jehovah's Witnesses.

How Long Did It Take You to Realize It Wasn't "The Truth"?
by minimus ini see some posters still aren't 100% sure that the jehovah's witness religion might not be "the truth"....was there a moment when things became very clear for you regarding this religion?.
do you still think, maybe----jws aren't all that bad??

Never really bought it. Born and raised but tired of the constant change for convenience. Like most others I lived liked a robot not wanting to lose family and a couple of friends, even though I still always had worldly friends. Once I had kids I decided I did not want them top waste a large portion of their life as I wasted mine. So even though the wife and kids ( they are still very young) are still active. my wife even realizes that there is almost no chance of our kids accepting this b.s. when dad s actions indicate that anything else you can possibly do has priority over spiritual things. Check Mate! P.S. Imagine how proud I am when my toddler screams I want to go home, I hate the Kingdom Hall, in the middle of the meeting

The practice of "Shepherding Calls" (attention ex-elders)
by Lady Zombie inthe practice of "shepherding calls" has always been somewhat of a mystery to me.. growing up, a shepherding call was for jws who were doing something that a few/some/most (didn't matter which) found stumbling or suspicious.
for instance, i remember my folks gossiping to each other about a jw couple who had been sloughing off the meetings in order to go dancing.
one of the congregation members (who were absent themselves on a particular night) saw them going into a dance club on a meeting night and promptly ran to an elder.

Back in the day I use to go only when the CO was coming around. It sort of felt Like cleaning the house before your spouse gets home from being away for the weekend, you know you better do it because it is less painful than having the conversation about it not being done. Since I stepped down (more like a happy skip) I was "privileged" to be on the receiving end. When these guys came over I called their bluff and told them I knew this was a CYA visit as the CO visit was in 3 weeks. It also really made the less experienced brother uncomfortable as to some of the "higher status" privileges that I had in the past. It's great when when they know you have the tools to climb the corporate ladder yet you tell them. I am really not interested in reaching out-aka don't give a sh*t.

by agent zero inhi everyone, i'm new here, been viewing the board for a while, decided to join yesterday.. so i'm about 95% convinced now the wts is bogus, but i'm still in coz as yall know leaving is the hardest part.
i plan on doing a fade to avoid the complete disconnection, but first want to gradually help my gf to see things too.
in the meantime, i'm just wondering how many of you are still "active" jdubs?

the "friends" in the hall think I am still in probably only because my wife and kids go a hell of a lot more than me. However every time I go I scan the audience wondering what causes people to show up for this. Here are my conclusions at every meeting: 1) Serious mental Problems- about 35% 2) Too many family members in to leave- about 63% 3) Intelligent but actually believe the B.S. 2 %. I am not too quiet about my '"apostasy" so hopefully it is only a matter of time before my presence is requested before the elders and I can tell them to go F*** themselves. My only problem is m wife and kids are still developing a support group unbeknownst to them.

ahahahahahahahahaha is all i could say when i called up (she answered, i called to talk to my old man) and she told me that.
