just curious what your take would be on this.. i have a witness friend, who happens to be a radio announcer (dj) on a rock station ( yes i know, that is weird in and of itself).

anyway, he wants to leave the "truth" but family keeps him in.

My JW gf and her friends/family

so i've been going out with a jw awhile now, and it's gotten to the point where she would be willing to 'convert'/switch to my religion.

the only problem is that she says she doesn't want to lose her friends/family.

the big one is her family since she lives with her mother/sister who are both jw and she doesn't want them 'shun' her.

Oh Brilliant Young One- She can't have it both ways. She is going through what very many of JW's go through. Let her do it on her own. DO NOT give her any pressure or advice. It can only be used against you in the future. What you may not realize is how BAD she is for having a worldly boyfriend. If she is willing to convert she must think she will be with you forever. Take you time. I know it seems hard now but it can work out. Also, consider not having her convert but just fading. She won't get disfellowshiped if she is not going to meetings. And her family won't be FORCED to shun her. Contact me if you want specifics of ramifications for different scenarios.

i keep on hearing you repeat that people here are "hate driven"... i don't agree... when a person realizes that they've been duped by men, and that's all the gb and the fads are, just men.... it hurts.

but i don't see very many people here as hate driven.

then you started a post that accused us of being hate filled, you gave no examples that i could see, but you later stated that you were going to research the truth on your own... have you done that in the last two days, because i'm pretty sure your post was two days ago?

How would the Society give up 1914?

during the 1930's when the society was quietly moving jesus' presence from 1874 to 1914, it only seemed to ruffle a few feathers and most accepted this "brighter light.

" how could the society abandon 1914 and still keep most of its followers?

With the " new meaning" they probably bought themselves 50 years before they need to abandon the year. I do love the fact that 1914 really is just a number. Thirty years ago many dubs could explain how it was derived and the interpreted significance. Now very, very few can. I believe it is because the GB may already be de-emphasizing this. If they push the issue, new ones may research it and conclude that the Borg is wrong and not join. They don't need to give up on 1914 if it is irrelevant and no one can argue against what they don't understand.

FIRST AID at the DCs

the thread about the old woman who died at the assembly got me thinking about how first aid is run at the conventions.

for many years i worked as an attendant, we were always instructed that, if there is a medical emergency to contact first aid and not to call an ambulance directly from the location.

in the age of cell phones it made much more sense to me to call 911 right away (for serious emergencies) , if it's a stroke or heart attack time is critical.

At the DC in my area this year, an announcement was made from the platform not to call 911 from your cell phone but to contact an attendant. Apparently there was a problem with 911 being called at every assembly (there is a lot of whacko's that attend) for non emergencies. I was at 3 assemblies at a row where an ambulance came and took someone away. And the attendants had no idea due to the EMT;'s getting there before the attendants were notified. It's quite funny to watch these guys who think they are important basically being told to get lost by the EMT's.

I believe most here will encourage you to let this happen. It should be chalked up as a life experience for your daughter. If this boy is really willing to give up his family for her I can promise you there will always be pressure on him and your daughters relationship will suffer. No one wants their children to be hurt so I encourage you to look at the big picture.
