A big part of the problem from what I hear is the hyperinflation caused by the over spending for the war on terror .Printing more and more money drives it's value down , also venezuela has offered to sell oil at reasonable prices but since chavez won't let OPEC run his country they wont take advantage of it. I also remember the prices went up because of greed in the oil companies wanting more profit . I agree we need more options and the oil companies are now saying they will spend money on wind farms and alternatives . Gee a little late on that ...............

Impalement or Crucifiction? Opinions please?
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inas we all know, the jw religion teaches that christ was impaled on a torture stake rather than crucified on the cross.
i have my own views on this and have recently been approached by a friend who also has certain views on the murder of jesus.
from my own reading of history and some recent internet sources, the discription of what the bible says happened to christ bears little resemblance to what impalement on a torture stake actually was.

Leolaia-- I believe it was emperor constantine that changed the meaning of the word because the cross was an ideal symbol to unite the pagans and christians in his kingdom and that's all he cared about. That would place it at the 4th century AD.I think the important thing is not to use it in worship. It may have looked like a T because of the sign that pilate put over his head .Who knows?

Christians - What do you believe about Armageddon?
by JayBird ini've always wondered what mainstream christianity's viewpoint is in regards to armageddon.
i understand there's no timetable.
but that sense of urgency that exists with jws doesn't seem to be there either.

I said all faithful and true, the rest are destroyed but after the millenial reign there is a second resurrection of people that didn't have a chance at proving loyalty or worthiness so they get a little while and satan is let loose out of the abyss to wreak what havoc he can on them.I think those that make it will be able to become spirits or take human form just like angels do .IMO

That's what the WTBTS says about the great crowd , they cease to exist after death and then await a resurrection (no eternal soul). The "anointed" aka 144,000 are instantly sent off to heaven as co-rulers with christ. I believe the bible is talking about complete destruction of the planet earth by fire and natural disaster but after the part where God destroys the kings and their armies and leaves them as bird food , I think that part means there will not even be time to bury the dead and will be a complete victory over any opposing forces to the kingdom. The WTBTS believes the great crowd will survive in their kingdom halls during the end , I think not .I believe all faithful and true believers are carried away by the spirit and people are morphed into a spirit to live out the millennial reign in the city of new jerusalem that descends from the heavens .

I've always wondered what mainstream Christianity's viewpoint is in regards to Armageddon. I understand there's no timetable. But that sense of urgency that exists with JWs doesn't seem to be there either. So here's a set of questions I would like to ask: Do you expect it to happen sooner rather than later? Who will be destroyed? And how will they be destroyed? Do you believe that the entire human race will be divided by their destination of heaven and hell? Will the universe, including planet Earth, remain intact for all eternity? If so, WHY? Or am I totally off the mark and asking the wrong set of questions? I believe armageddon to be an invisible war between the righteous and the evil spirit forces along with evil humans that follow them , I think it will happen in the time frame of the 21st century , all those destroyed will be the evil people that support the 666 beast in revelation , they will be destroyed by the great day of God almighty ,I believe the human race will either achieve salvation or be destroyed ,I believe earth will be indestructible and people will live here for eternity . There are no wrong questions only wrong answers .

I think it all hangs on the word stauros and what it meant at the time the bible account was written .Same goes for whatever word is used for impaled or crucified . I don't doubt that throughout history the meaning of words was tampered with as the bible itself .For instance the word hell became known as an underworld of eternal suffering which is clearly a pagan belief but somehow makes it's way into the christian belief system .

I think I'd have to agree with the high price of fuel they will just go ahead and fax the congs . whatever literature they want , don't know what they will do about new books for book studies unless they just up and reuse all the old books in circulation.WT farms will probly start growing corn for ethanol and make millions on that.

The writing on the wall. The end is coming!

OMG that is so circular without any actual similarities even. When I went to book studies most people just left as quick as they could anyway since most had jobs to work the next day. Then I'd sit around trying to think up some conversation with the guy who's home it was at ,about as mundane as it could get ..... It's probly more about having people beat their kids at the hall where as at somebodies home they would be less likely to.

Yah I know they lied about their scholarship but still think the early church changed things around so am still kinda up in the air on who did what ,I don't believe a trinity and think the unity dogma makes more sense except for the part where they claim it's blaspheme to use the word God in connection with jesus .What's interesting is that the so called true scholars are also in question as to their integrity while translating the scriptures . I believe the word God is applied after jesus sits on the throne in heaven and he did have Godlike powers when on earth but only had them after being baptized and approved by his father in heaven as written in the account.
