i know that this has been a popular post in the past.
but after my last post, it got me thinking.
i used to always use those stupid field service report slips as scratch paper.
Justitia:
Your husband is to be commended! A noble profession...and volunteering his time on top of that for a great cause. The elders comments are disgusting.
I hope you at least have some more level headed ones to balance out him. (if you still go to meetings)....I still have to endure those idiotic type of comments.
crazy people!
after coming here almost every day for years, it will be bewildering to have no jwd.
and the truth is, there are other places that will pop up in the years to come but i doubt very much anything will be of this magnitude in regard to assisting others out of the organization.. i think if any are so inclined, they should make their emails available so as to make further contact with our cyber friends.. well now, i'm sure a lot of lurkers are kicking themselves for not joining here.
too late!
Come on Simon...just until 2014...please
Thanks for the board, I wish I had discovered it sooner...bummer for me!
is anyone a member?
seems decent...i've read it a few times.the wt section is kind of slow, one poster named bangalore seems to be the primary guy there that gets topics going.. i know because of the name, it wouldn't be appealing to many though..

one thing i really hate.
the wbts basically says that if your child does not grow up a productive members of jehovah's witnesses, in spite of everything else they may be capable of achieving, you fail as a parent.
this bothers me.
Regarding LDs comments: I would bet that secretly 'some' are proud (maybe not the woman you talked about) but may be scarred to admit it to others. Have to maintain the show of solidarity to the brethren!
If I never had my doubts, and continued on the stepstool and made elder, then had a son or daughter who became left and became a doctor (or whatever) ; I would still be very proud.
But, yes. It's all sad.
elders, mss, pioneers, ... heck even cos who privately expressed doubts to you directly or other reliable sources?.
(i hate the distinction between those "spiritual giants" (i never was one...just a r&f/ms) and the common folk).
but it's interesting / stregthening to hear stories of them expressing their distaste at some of the bs..

at the conventions, there always seem to be parents gushing about how their kids are 'in the truth', pioneering, etc.
i'm wondering how many jw kids just flat-out reject all the jw b/s right from the start.
surely there are some kids who just say 'no way!
1 in 8 is about right on in our hall...bunch of'em (17-19 yrs old) have left within the last 2 years.
i've seen the topic where they try to explain invisible growth, but something else about this wt magazine stands out.
if this isn't adulterating the word of god, i don't know what is.
the wts has done it again and managed to usurp jesus' position and interject themselves into his place.
Unfortunately as a former R&F MS goofball, something like this would have escaped my notice. I would have just casually read along at the WT study, noticed it, and said hmmm; all the while, thinking about & waiting to go to the lake and hang out with friends after meeting.
My point is: now it makes me really angry to see this crap! I'm sad to think how I didn't catch this stuff before...and sad knowing so many will just read and nod along....like I used to.
well, i just finished reading marley cole's "jehovah's witnesses - the new world society" book from 1955. i'll provide a few quotes to introduce it in case you aren't familiar with the book.
ray franz in crisis of conscience, p74, 2004 hc edition: cole wrote the book as if he were a non-witness writing an objective account.
the idea was that by having the book published by an outside publishing firm it might reach persons who normally would not take society literature.
I have never read this, but I do remember as a kid in the 70s seeing this. (I think I even remember it being on the order list) I had always thought it was written by a non-wit, but very deceptive of them to make it look like it was just to get some good PR.
here's something i thought about this morning that made me mad.
the wts is so anti-education now, saying the "end is so close" "deep in the last days" etc (tm) ...why have they not come down on having retirement plans?
i know many elders that work for big companies (younger guys in their 40s), they are planning for their future by investing etc....what!?
You're right...unfortunately. I'm sure the ones that have retirement are a small minority. Still, thinking about the double standard bothered me.
I'm surprised the Society has not mildly hinted at the absurdity of saving for a retirement when the end is so close...
