Annie and I got up at 1:30 and were glued to the TV until 7:00. Loved every minute of it. I especially loved Pippa's dress - oh if only I was in my 20's again

How do we test our OWN philosophy or world view?
by Terry inthis topic is about the difference between how we see the world and how it really is.. we each have our own way.. some of us try to be mostly rational.. others, prefer a more religious, spiritual or mystical approach.. i'd say most ordinary people (non-specialists) mix the two.. .
with that premise in mind, i say the following:.
dropping an egg on the floor tests the integrity of the egg well-enough as measured against gravity :).

I never knew that I needed to test my OWN philosophy and world view - I just figured there is right and there is wrong and I am right. Is there something that I am missing?

How Many of Them Do You Know About?
by clarity inafter flipper's thread about the wt child abuse cases, i started to think about how many children i know of personally who have been sexually abused by a jw!.
as someone who is not especially 'in the know', it's amazing that i do know five of them.
one who was a small baby, at the time!.

- When I was 15 (in WI) I was friends with a girl at the hall that was about the same age as me. Her family was much like something out of the movie Deliverance. Well, she got pregnant and come to find out it was her (witness) father that molested her.
- In my 20's there was an elderly MS in our hall that was much loved. Come to find out he molested about 8 girls (young teenagers) in our hall. One went to the (worldy) authorities and the story was all over the front page of the newspapers for a few weeks.
- My oldest nephew in WI was molested by a brother in his hall. Starting at the age of 5 and lasting until he was 11.
- My last hall, the case was quite a scandel and quite public. He was an elder who was regularly molesting his 9 year old adopted daughter. He then went on to other young girls in hall before he was caught. This was all over the papers, and he committed suicide before he was sentenced.
- At the Memorial last week, there was a brother sitting in the front row... My sister wispered over to me ..."He just got done serving a 3 year sentence for molesting his stepdaughters - though he always maintained he was innocent."
The above cases were all very public, that is why I knew about them. I shudder to think of the untold many that did not make it to the newspapers or end in a public pregnancy.

What are your thoughts on marrying later in life?
by cult classic inmy 2nd-time widowed fil is remarrying this summer at the age of 73. his fiancee is a never-before-married woman in her mid-50s with one adult son.
his children are pretty mad about the upcoming nuptials.
they feel the woman is a gold digger.

My widowed FIL (age 75) married a sister in his hall that was 42. We were all totally against the marriage. He was well to do and newly baptized. Within 3 years (of living on McDonalds, Wendys and Burger King) he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He died shortly after the diagnosis. He had a will that gave everything to his two children (my husband at the time). However, since the will was drawn up a year before his new marriage it was worthless. She got EVERYTHING (including the salt and pepper shakers and family pictures). He had a large life insurance policy made out to his daughter, but somehow the new wife ended up with that too (long story, but true). The family took her to the elders and then took her to court, however in CO law the wife gets everything if there is not a will (and his will was not valid).
There is no fool like an old fool
I am totally for marrying at any age, but only for Love. No other reasons are good enough in my book.
