  Yesterday was my Son's 21st Birthday

  yesterday was my oldest son's 21st birthday.

  as many of you know, i've been disfellowshipped for over 3 years now.

  in the spring of this year i did write to the local boe and request my disfellowshipping be rescinded.

  My oldest just turned 21 also. I do not know how I would function if I had your situation. That religion is so despicable. If ever you are in Colorado I will buy us a great bottle of scotch to share.

  i always had my doubts about that but i was at least hopeful that all would work out as they said.

  i saw so many "faithful ones" who were true believers expire before they got the prize, that i started to think it probably wouldn't happen in my lifetime.. what a bunch of suckers, huh?.

  As a little girl my mother would talk to us all the time about how terrifying the great tribulation was going to be. We would be persecuted, thrown in prison, everyone would turn on us. She also told us that we probably would not have food, so we may have to eat my cat Niki. I knew I could never do that and would have to let Jehovah destroy me.

  Happy childhood memories! Thanks Minimus for remembering that little nugget.

  Dear Dazed But Not Confused,

  If I may be so arrogant as to use my own example...

  My husband did not help at all when it came to our two daughters. I did everything - he admits that he never once changed a diaper, never, ever got up in the night, never helped get them ready for meetings etc. I was the girls everything. They are now 20 and 21. They have nothing to do with their father and practically worship the ground I walk on.

  Be there for them as much as you can - you will want a relationship with them later. These young years are gone in the blink of an eye.

  Many people get married simply because they think it’s expected of them to marry by a certain age.

  Or could it also be because so many hard core JW parents will not let thier grown kids move out of the house until they are married to a spiritually stong Dub? The single dubs just want to get the hell away from their weird parents.

  The average 10 year old knows that you have to feel good about yourself, no one else can do that task for you.

  you know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
