I think that I could get my husband Df'd
by ingimar inthere are some things that i wish the local congregation knew about my husband but i am not sure how to inform them.. my husband was a jw in a previous marriage but none of his family are jw's except for one half sister who he recently met for the first time.
his ex wife is no longer a believer either and their three adult kids want nothing to do with the jw's.. i met my husband 8 years ago on eharmony.
i should have been leary when he stated his religion as "christian".

Nothing makes a JW more zealous than persecution. Do not try to make trouble for him in the congregation, it will only backfire on you.

Life after DF/divorce
by Freeof1914 ini am just wondering how many here have gone through the experience of being disfellowshipped and divorced?
i am currently in that situation and sometimes i am afraid of what to expect.
thankfully i have a good core of friends, but nonetheless i still find myself somewhat nervous of what to expect in my new life.

Seven years ago I filed for divorce after being married 20 years (10 of that in full time service together). I also was Df'ed. There has never, ever been one day that I regret my decision.
My advice is this...
- Do not be in a hurry to get into another relationship.
- Learn to enjoy being alone
- When you do start dating, contrary to Watchtower beleif, you do not have to jump in bed on the first date.
- There are a lot of wonderful women out there. You are no longer confined to the small JW pool of desperate sisters.
- There are going to be days that you will be blue - do not self medicate.
Life outside of the JW world is beautiful - Go embrace and enjoy!!

JW teens and "scouting" for prom dates? 70's & 80's
by sir82 inposted this on the "school and jws" brochure, which got buried pretty quickly, but i wanted to see if anyone else remembers this, from the 70's & 80's, so i'll start a new topic on it.. .
that ("school and jws") brochure put the kibosh on high school proms in the usa.. in our area at least, going to prom was perfectly fine - as long as you went with a fellow jw.
children of elders, pioneers, etc.

Prom was absolutely forbidden - it did not matter if I was going with a JW. It was a worldy event run by Satan and anyone that went to prom would get drunk, take drugs, engage in an orgy and ultimately become pregnant, disfellowshipped and lose out on everlasting life.

British zone visit from David Splane - a report from the special meeting in Glasgow
by slimboyfat inwell i went to a "special meeting" in the armadillo today where a 2 & 1/2 hour programme was relayed from london at 1pm.
apparently the letters of invitation only went out a month or so ago and not all congregations were invited.
there were 2,900 of us from around scotland.

When children sit at the KH they learn to tune out, day dream, fantasize - anything to pass the time. Unfortunately a lot of high school can be quite similar. However, once you enter a University the days of tuning out are over. You must learn to think and reason - make sense of things - figure things out on your own, as in doing your own research and study. Critical thinking skills naturally develop...and WHA LA...."The troof" all of a sudden becomes such a silly little insignificant religion that can be summed up in a few humorous sentences.
I can absolutely see why this religion wants no part of higher learning. Their motto should be..." Keep them at home. Keep them at the KH. Keep them dumb."

The Story of Joe
by dozy inwhen i was a young pioneer , over the years i had built up a route call and every wednesday afternoon myself and a couple of the other pioneers would walk ( or if adverse weather , drive ) around the streets of our town and the surrounding villages distributing the magazines.
most houses were empty , which didnt really matter - it was a pleasant diversion from what was generally quite a harsh unfruitful territory to work.
we would talk about the things young ones talk about girls , football , tv and , er , girls chewing the fat over the latest gossip.. in our congregation , joe , a retired brother in his 70s lived with his non-jw worldly ( but very pleasant and hospitable ) wife , jean.
